Whether it would work practically is another matter but the fact he's talking about it is troubling. Regardless of someone's political leanings (other than those who are openly fascists) branding people who are anti-fascist as terrorists should be worrying. The constant divisive rhetoric from Trump and his backers, some of which is extreme, is a huge contributor to the problems we're seeing in the US and here. |

He's been quite happy using executive orders for all kinds of nonsense so I wouldn't put it past him doing it again. I imagine it'd be challenged through the courts if he does but even still, the fact he's saying these things is worrying, not funny. It reinforces for his supporters that people who are against fascism are the enemy. It legitimises them as a target. I am still struggling to see how it's funny. |

Think this is a bit of false equivalence to be honest. If you are a hardliner (usually of a religious persuasion) and believe abortion is wrong in all circumstances then, however reluctantly, you have to believe that a child who has been raped must carry a baby to term. Indeed, where abortion is illegal, this is what happens. You can be pro-choice and not be in favour of terminations at 39 weeks. In fact I'd wager 99.9999999999999% of people who feel abortion should be legal don't support 39 week terminations other than in very extreme circumstances (e.g. late discovery of a horrific life limiting disability potentially). |

I tend to watch whatever league Town are in as that's the league I'm invested in, only caught maybe two Championship games last season and only half a Prem game this season. The quality and standard in the Prem is light years better than the Championship though and as a neutral it's a far better watch, I'm just not that invested in it when we're not playing in it. |

If you were living in a country thousands of miles away and you're facing persecution or death, would you send your granny and your 12 year old daughter to make the dangerous journey alone? If you would then fair enough, but I think most people wouldn't as they'd probably not make it, or if they did they'd be so scarred from the experience they wouldn't be the same people you sent off on that journey.
The Ukraine comparison doesn't work, we opened up a scheme specifically for Ukrainians that made it easy and safe for them to come here. If we did the same for other countries, we wouldn't be getting anything like the same number of small boat crossings. People risk their lives doing that because they have no other way of coming into the country and making an asylum claim. Anyone wanting to stop the boats should be supporting the establishment of safe, legal routes for asylum seekers. They shouldn't be supporting Farage and his empty rhetoric. |

The irony is that you have the likes of Vance wanging on about the threat to free speech in Europe while they are literally banning books from libraries, dictating the content that museums should curate, and financially extorting universities to behave as they want them to behave, which includes clamping down on some forms of peaceful protest. We're in full Orwell territory at this point, but some seem to be blind to it. |

RIP. Was a massive Ricky Hatton fan, watched his career from very early on and I remember being over the moon when he beat Tyszu. He's really struggled since retirement as a lot of professional sports people do and he's been open about his struggles and an advocate for talking about mental health. Really sad news. |

I see you don't have any issues with lowhouse constantly referring to people as pathetic because they refuse to engage with him. I think the hyperbole in your post also speaks volumes, a refusal to engage and an explanation of why is not hatred is it? And describing some of the posters who take issue with lowhouse as being "radical leftists" is complete nonsense and doing far more to stoke division than the posts you take issue with. |

That is precisely what it is. The other day I called out some fairly obvious racism from a poster (basically implying that Black people routinely riot and loot when a Black person is murdered) and latching on the the current alt-right narrative that nobody is talking about a white Ukrainian woman being murdered by a Black man in the US, even though it's been reported widely. The response of the individual involved in this thread was to say that Black people in the UK are mainly killed by Black people, despite this having nothing to do with the argument I was making. It's a constant and deliberate tactic to ignore the pernicious creep of racist views and increasingly far-right attitudes and instead to focus on those who call it out, usually by twisting or misrepresenting the substantive points being made.
At the same time, the posters that do this rarely, if ever, directly challenge posts that contain obvious racist tropes or support for far-right ideals. This is despite these posters saying we need to engage in debate with those that we disagree with and claiming to be of the left themselves. But on the evidence of how they actually engage, it's hard to conclude anything other than they don't really fundamentally disagree with the far-right and instead take issue with those that challenge the creep of the far-right. |
