Fifa, the Club World Cup and Saudi Arabia
at 22:50 14 Jun 2025

Saudi (and to a lesser extent, Middle Eastern) influence does no favours to both club and international football.

Look at the upcoming fourth round World Cup qualifiers for Asia - Saudi, Qatar, Iraq, Oman, Indonesia are in the pot yet lo and behold FIFA and the AFC has given hosting rights to Saudi and Qatar. Shouldn't games like these be played in a neutral country i.e. Japan, S Korea, China etc. instead?

This looks like Hladky 2.0 all over again.

MA perhaps isn't the master of deals he thinks he is.

(Unless we already have a replacement lined up for Burgess who is an upgrade, which I really doubt at this point of time)

Who replaces burgess as left centre back?
at 19:15 14 Jun 2025

Totally agree, the over-obsession by McK on certain players like Ioannidis, Broja, Downes, Philogene and Latte Lath last season has resulted in us failing to sign anyone fit for purpose. We can't have last minute desperate signings like Ben Godfrey this time, what a joke that was.

Next season is imperative to hit the ground running, not waiting for more last minute signings to "gel" and lose ground. Pre-season is also important to get players up to speed, look what a disjointed team brought us last season.

If we lose Tuanzebe as well then we need at least 5-6 signings at the back, CM and a 9 to replace Delap at the very least. I can't see where these players are coming from.

Palmer talked too much? Or would you rather play ahead of Muric who doesn't talk and you have to second guess what the GK is going to do all the time? Madness.

All also very quiet on the Tuanzebe front. MA apparently isn't the masterclass negotiator he thinks he is. If we lose both Cam and Tuanzebe I am not confident (using the previous few transfer windows as a precedent) we will get fit-for-purpose replacements.

The legendary League One transfer window aside, all others have been underwhelming - some even pathetic. Ben Godfrey ffs.

If he doesn't want to come or think he's too big for a Championship club then cast the net elsewhere ASAP. It seems McK has a certain fixation towards certain players he targets and closes his mind towards the entire transfer pool, which results in us failing to sign effective players in the needed positions throughout the past few transfer windows. Ben Godfrey ffs. Look at what happened last summer with Ioannidis, Broja, Philogene and Latte Lath and Downes in January. Its not new. Remember Camara and Ahadme?

Imperative to get new signings in early, more last minute desperation signings we would either be left with Hirst and AAH come August. Or another AAH-like signing from League One and Two.

McKenna
at 21:00 9 Jun 2025

Ahead of schedule or not with the generally poor performance - being schooled by PL managers in terms of strategy and set-up that you cannot deny. The second half of the season bar Villa, Chelsea, Everton and Bournemouth away was an absolute car crash compounded by McK's failure to turn things around instead continuing the same like-for-like changes and often making subs too late.

With relegation whatever goodwill McK earned over the previous back-to-back promotion seasons is fast diminishing, the Americans are not Evans and will probably do something by January if we do not hit the ground running in the Championship next season.

Flynn Downes linked with Russell Martin at Rangers
at 20:30 9 Jun 2025

Precisely. Unpopular opinion - With The Sun dossier leaked last summer it was probably the lack of McK's interest in a player who did not fit the bill of being a native English speaker brought up under the domestic system.

So much for Fortuna being our "partner" club. We didn't even make a move.

The overseas recruitment needs getting sorted asap.

Genuine Question: Could a different manager have kept us up?
at 18:35 6 Jun 2025

Seeing most of the discussion has centered around domestic managers such as Dyche and Moyes as alternatives we may have made better signings (or at least better value) abroad if we had a foreign manager able to tap upon knowledge of his home country instead of McK.

Farke and the German connection at skum
Nuno, Lage and the Portuguese connection at Wolves
Viera and the French/Senegalese connection at Fulham

Etc.

Would signing more foreign players from Europe/South and Central America/Africa/Asia under a foreign manager have kept us up? Up to debate.

Hutchinson

Unlike Delap, Hutch hasn't exactly set the world alight in the Prem and at £35 mil would be a gamble to warm the benches of a top 17 Prem club. Unlike us last season, "lesser" Prem clubs like Brentford, Bournemouth, Wet Spam, Fulham, Wolves, Palace etc have an extensive overseas scouting network giving them plenty options from abroad that are cheaper and better - no way they will overpay for players that cannot hit the ground running in the Prem.

If we refuse will any of the players push a transfer request
at 16:50 6 Jun 2025

You sure, we have failed to sign a 9 in the past few windows bar Delap who is now gone, so who are the 2 replacements up front that McK and MA have in mind?

Even CM. I struggle to think of who is coming in to replace Cajuste (if we fail to sign him perm) and Luongo.

Playing AAH for the stretch of Prem games when Hirst was out wasn't much different from (in your words) getting another Leon Best.

With the lack of an overseas scouting network, if Hirst leaves it will be curtains for us.

Now start recruitment asap and get targets in asap for the pre-season. Pointless to be over-fixated on certain players and spurn the chance to get others in. Also, a disjointed team with last minute panic signings will not be able to hit the deck running in Aug. We all knew what happened last season with Ioannidis and Philogene, and Downes in Jan.

Stoke are proper trash, should have gone down last season.

Would do with the likes of Piroe though, we need to sign a striker of his quality at the very minimum next season

All of a sudden McKenna and the team seem to be getting real pelters from
at 00:10 21 Apr 2025

I have watched a couple of matches on TV with supporters of other PL and Champ clubs. Most of them acknowledge the huge disparity between the leagues but also expected us to play better and be more tactically savvy after seeing our exciting, attacking play last season. Remember watching the Palace match with a Boro supporter who was shocked at how passive we were pissing around at the back with in his words “no sense of urgency”

Take off the blue tinted glasses, doesn’t have to be the media and pundits, ask any neutral to watch our games this season and more often than not they will tell you how poor we are.

We better do, our recruitment this season has been shocking. If we are able to use Jamestown Analytics again next season then McK and MA should know what are the type of players to look out for abroad instead of Championship all-stars and gambling on a couple of PL rejects

We need to get the international scouting network and recruitment up NOW. That should be the top priority going into next season, not the stadium upgrades, training ground etc. There's not point having a shiny nice ground and training centre with improved facilities if the players we sign are not fit for purpose in the PL. We will not be able to survive in the PL on EFL players and U21 British players as this season has shown.
