its not a paper loss - its an actual loss

you are right, its a long term view i should be taking not a short term one, that said, i dont think the markets are going to recover for a while on this one back to their previous levels

edit - the point im making is that if id have put it in my back pocket on monday. id have 20600 (or so) - today, its 19080 (or so) . given that i put 20k in to start with (6 months ago), to receive "any less" - is depressing.

Trump’s tariffs

Apple (AAPL) saw its market value plunge by more than $300bn on Thursday, making it one of Wall Street’s biggest casualties following Donald Trump’s latest tariff offensive

seemingly so. Hyundai have just built a plant over there.

trump seems to forget that one of the reasons that the US buys stuff in is because they cant make it, or have no knowledge / facilities to make it.

therefore ultimately, the biggest looser out of all of this will be the US everyday joe - who will either lack of being able to buy products, or prices going through the roof.

then again like all of trumps other policies, im expecting a u turn

im waiting to see what happens with apple

most of their products are manufacutred in china. 39% on the price of your iphone doesnt sound great for the yanks (ignoring the fact its at least 39% overpriced as it is)

you can make them smile by telling them that they can list "annoying british people" is one of their 5 things they have to do that week.

also yes you need a ESTA for a layover. it is annoying.

Discus fish in aquariums
at 12:26 12 Feb 2025

weve just bought a medium sized (160l) aquarium for ourselves.(well, the fish mostly)

the guy we're working with to help us has sagely said "you dont keep fish, you keep water"

we're currently struggling to get the amonia/nitrates/algae levels correct... hopefully a few more weeks and its sorted.

learning that its a slow process, not an instant results thing.
