Roberts Second Striker Signing?
at 23:28:06

Unlike the more pessimistic posters here, I don't think signing Roberts would signal the end of Wickham's Ipswich career, I think it says we're looking to hold on to him. Wickham is still learning the game and having experienced players alongside him will give him the opportunity learn from a player who has scored goals at the highest level.

Liverpool Make Wickham Bid
at 01:00:16

£8million? Which leg are they after? If they're prepared to offer £8m, it won't be the only bid. Just hope they don't go high enough to trigger the clause in his contract. Or if they do, he's sensible enough to realise that his short-term futture would be better spent in our first team than another team's reserves.

Player of the Year Voting Open
at 13:55:45

Good though Bullard has been, I don't think a player who hasn't been here for 2/3 of the season can be called player of the season. The clue is in the title. It's about doing it for the whole season. Players like Bullard, Wickham, Carson and Martin have all had ouststanding games, but have they done it from August all the way through to now? No!
There should only be three contenders for this, three players who have performed over the whole season. They are Delaney, McAuley and Norris. Ok, they may have had one or two dodgy games, but if anyone else wins it, it makes a mockery of the whole thing.

Hardly a new idea for ITFC even - I remember back in '98 or '99 the club were after volunteers to put cards out for a Tuesday night game against N*rw*ch. I went to help out and got a free ticket to the following match against West Brom as a thank you.

Town Could Face Legal Action Over Back Rent
at 18:50:30

Rent increase is one matter - is the council ripping the club off or were the club underpaying before? Don't know enough to comment, although 743% is ridiculous either way. But how can they get away with backdating it that far? If it needed to be reassessed and wasn't, then that's the councils fault and they should pay for the mistake.

Yorkshire / Wark-On-Water - you've helped restore my faith after some of the idiotic comments I've read on here. Yes, Keane failed as manager at Portman Road and the decision to sack him is probably the right one (depending on who replaces him). But that's no need to continue the attacks on him. He did what he thought was right, he tried his best. We should thank him for his efforts, remember the good games, 3-2 over Cov for example, and move on.

Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?
at 17:55:52

Don't like the idea of Curbishley or Allardyce - preferable to Megson, but that's about it. Warmig to the idea of Jewell, but would prefer Poyet & Taricco - up and coming partnership that have got a reputation for good football and would know where to go for lower league bargains.

But whoever I it is, I'll put any misgivings aside and support them and the team 100%.

One question while I'm here - what's this obsession with Matt Holland as our saviour? Won't happen! He has publically and privately said that he has no interest in managing or coaching anyone. He's not shown the slightest interest in getting his coaching badges. He's being groomed by the BBC to be a new Gary Lineker - which is the role he's wanted for years. Why would he suddenly change his mind now? Seriously, we have more chance of getting Wenger and Mourinho as joint manager than seeing Matt Holland back here as a coach.

Town Topic: Who Should Replace Keane?
at 13:13:45

Being pedantic, since when was Clapham a right-sided player? I was at Anfield for the match and can assure you he wasn't a right midfielder in that or any other game.
Other than that, an interesting piece.
Will take issue with Dagenham over Finidi George though. It was our form over the Christmas & New Year period that gave us hope of staying up, games he played a key part in. Yes, he was overhyped and overpaid, but to blame him for relegation is a tad unfair. Personally I put more blame on Ruud van Cheatlerooy for that ridiculous dive in our last home game. Had we got a deserved draw at Portman Road, we wouldn't have had to go to Anfield looking for a win. Whether we'd have managed to get a draw in those circumstances, I don't know, but it will have had an effect.

I'm still not sure where I stand on the Keane in/out debate, but looking at it hypothetically I would say anyone but Curbishley! I don't know where the idea he could be our saviour has come from, the thought of him taking over worries me more than the prospect of another 10 years of Keane. Yes, he eventually got Charlton promoted (and relegated and promoted again), but people have very short memories. The first of those promotions, they beat us in the play-offs and, despite Town going down 1-0 at PR, there was only one team trying to play football that day. Little hint, it wasn't Charlton. There's also the question of why he hasn't returned to management since leaving West Ham. 2 1/2 years he's been available - surely any half-decent club would have taken him on by now. I know he's been doing some media work, but that length of time out does pose a number of questions.
I don't want this to be a completely negative post, so I'm going to put forward my own suggestion - Poyet & Taricco from Brighton. Poyet is a reasonably big name, which should appeal to Evans (OK, not as big as Keane, but not many are) while Taricco can do no wrong in the eyes of many Town fans, so will help get dissenters back on-side. They've got Brighton to the top of League One playing good attacking football without spending a lot of money. Sounds like the ideal combination to me!

Reid: Fallon Fee Agreed
at 12:26:34

You know, I remember a few years ago we signed a non-scoring, injury-prone centre forward on loan from a League 1 club and there were the same negative posts then that there are now. I remember well 'cos I wrote one of them. The player's name was Shefki Kuqi - he didn't turn out so bad, did he?
I'm not guaranteeing Fallon will be the same, but sometimes a player just has to be in the right environment and maybe Portman Road will be that for him in a way that Home Park never was.
The important thing is he is an Ipswich player, so let's get behind him and the rest of the team, not just on Sunday, but at every game.

Garvan Completes Palace Move
at 18:37:21

Bags of potential, but it he rarely looked like fulfilling it. If Burley can get the best out of him, then it could turn out to be a bargain. But Garvan has only performed for one manager out of three, and even then he wasn't consistent, so I'm not going to hold my breath. For his sake, I hope he proves Keane wrong, but I fear he'll be another Dean Bowditch - never reaching the level his early performances suggested he should. As it is, we got a reasonable price for what he is, a decent squad player who needs to move on to kick-start his career.
It's the right time for him to move, so let's just thank him for the good memories, wish him all the best for the future (except when he plays against us) and get behind the players we have now.

Newcastle Fanzine Wants Town Robson Tributes

BFB - well put. Just because some of us aren't old enough to remember the glory days doesn't mean we don't have our own memories of the great man. I was fortunate enough to meet him and for the 4 or 5 minutes I spoke to him, he made me feel 8 feet tall, an all too rare gift. Isn't that equally as valid as having been there for the FA and UEFA Cups?

Could have been good for us, but when a player consistently under-performs for two of the three managers he's played for, it suggests there's an issue with the player. Maybe a new club will help him, for his sake I hope so. But as far as we're concerned, a reasonable price for a player with unfulfilled potential. Good luck to Burley in getting something more out of him.
