I watched the U23s game the other night. We showed what the first team lack. Lankester looked good, certainly good enough to be on the bench.. but Dozzell is what the team needs. I’m All for data and making players as fit as possible but it seems PH is stuck in this ideas of stats. If Beattie were at the club now he’d never get a game under the current regime. We lack quality and Dozzell clearly has it. He needs to be in the side or at least in the bench. Half of that u23s side look like better players than the ones we’ve dragged from the lower leagues. You can’t argue the signings are working or say the youngsters aren’t ready.... the players we’ve signed don’t look ready for this level. We should have brought in fewer players but of a better quality. PH has shown little desire to use our home grown players. I’m sure the likes of emmanuel would have cost £1m if we were signing him from a league one club if you look at Donacien’s fee. I’d rather be incapable of scoring with our youngsters rather than a bunch of lower league journeymen. We are much further away from having 50% of the team from the academy than we’ve ever been. MM had much more faith in our younger players.
How many games did we lose or wins become draws because of some poor defending under the last manager? And good football is cool except if you aren’t good enough to do that and get results: We’ve been unthreatening in two of the three games and the Rotherham game had lots of possesionnagainst the favourites for relegation. I don’t want to play pretty passing football and lose every week
The biggest problem is fans thinking Hurst is some kind of genius in comparison to all the other managers and that his ideas are unique and his talent spotting insightful beyond the norm, some Or all of this may prove true... but it’s more likely about any younger manager that they are not well above the average.... let’s keep our fingers crossed that Hurst is special
I’ve been concerned about the recruitment policy all summer but having failed to beat two teams that were in league one last season and one who is currently in league two... and looked goal shy having lost pretty much all of last years goals via Waghorn, Garner, Celina and McGoldrick... I think we may as well face facts that unless the way they are being asked to play is so complicated they can’t get it quickly but when they do it’s genius... we are in for a very long hard season. I think it’s worth giving it a month but at the moment we’ve gone from a top half championship team to looking like a league one team out of its depth. I’m not suggesting a change of manager in a month btw but we need to face facts... lots of teams bring in a new manager and they say all the right things.... right up until a player says they are to blame for his sacking
A lot of hindsight wisdom on here. Parkin was scoring a hell of a lot more goals than Jackson before we bought him... I wasn’t over the moon when we signed him but that was more the type of player vs ability.
Along with the moron Trumps Tarrifs this could push Turkey further towards hardcore Islamic theocracy or lead to a revolution. The problem is that if Erdogan is overthrown and let’s be clear attaturk would spin in his grave if he saw what erdogan was up to, those even more extreme may try to fill the void.
I’d be very surprised if Skuse was on the Bench. From PHs comments MM and fans who know anything about football value him... not just MM. Sears is perhaps more likely to be on the bench if he goes with Jackson in the middle and perhaps pushes Harrison out to the left... but sears did create our opener and has been praised by the manager for the work he does for the team.
He has options at the moment as we have so many players who’s performance level in the championship is an unknown quantity. We do need a balance so I suspect He’ll stick with Sears and Skuse
