Compare and contrast with Paul Warne's management style:

https://trainingground.guru/articles/paul-warne-leading-with-emotional-intellige

"...The message is, ‘We will treat you with the utmost respect as a staff and expect you to treat us the same way’. That’s the way I always wanted it as a player."

Seems to be working pretty well at Rotherham...

This is from Lambert is just sh!t isn't it? Hack motivation tactics from the 1980s.

Wasn't he behind another youth GK at the club (Hayes?) for years? What happened to him?

If there ever was a moment it's probably passed hasn't it.

Shame, because there's no love lost between Dutchmen and Germans, and I'd have loved to see him take on the w@nker in the parka.

These Football Times on Maurice Steijn

I thought this was an interesting piece and haven't seen it discussed here, on Maurice Steijn's continued success at VVV Venlo.

https://thesefootballtimes.co/2018/12/14/the-inside-story-of-vvv-venlo-the-small

Clear parallels between what he's achieved there and what we all want at Town, a close-knit club and community coming together with spirit to overcome clubs on bigger budgets.

Was there ever anything in it? Could it still happen one day? I think I remember Stuart Watson saying he was contacted in case Paul Hurst didn't happen.

Earwigging reviews from the Stoke bus...
at 17:45 8 Dec 2018

A: Agree
B: Pessimist in me says that they let us have the ball in the middle third. For all the ball we had, how many chances did we make? They had 10 behind the ball and I'm not sure we had the answers.
C: They're a miserable lot for winners.

Just passing on what I heard on the (wrong) bus

Earwigging reviews from the Stoke bus...

"apparently we were after their left back, he was sh1te"

"They were awful, worst I've seen this season. We always sink to bad teams level's"

Weren't great were we? Made a hell of a noise though, and their support were shocking. Also I got on the wrong bus and I'm now lost in Hanley.

Had to give it from the elbow this evening, up to the second knuckle. Does that merit discussion?

Drinking in Stoke
at 22:12 7 Dec 2018

Appreciate the answers to this.

Stoke town centre probably best avoided at all times, but noted for match day. Reckon I'll be on the Dark Fruits off that boat: Take a look at Barge-Inn Booze (@barge_inn_booze): https://twitter.com/barge_inn_booze?s=09

Most importantly, going to make some fcking noise in the away end. Not dragging myself to Stoke to drink Bovril and tut.

I have heard of the barge, looks like they only have Carling or Dark Fruits on.

Found a very odd place called the Ran Brewery with a brewery tap in an industrial estate about 20 minutes walk from the ground, but I do not trust it on a match day.

Or I might sit in Crewe station for an extended.

Drinking in Stoke

Anyone have any ideas of the best place to drink before the game?

I see the club website suggests a Harvester or a Powerleague 5-a-side centre, but there must be somewhere better than that?

After we win I'll be dunking my b0ll0cks into stranger's pints in the nearest Wetherspoons, but that's another story.

Per Swiss Ramble I believe standard practice is to book player sales as a one-off income but player purchases are spread over the length of the contract.

Bit of an odd argument from IM for me, does anyone seriously doubt the club have accountants? Clearly higher value players left than arrived, else we wouldn't be in this mess.

I've been told it was part of the Fisons sponsorship deal.

No citations, but was told by someone who worked there at the time.
