I don't claim to be an expert, but it seems to me to be pretty obvious why a player, whose contract is running out, would choose to move, rather than stay, despite being offered a new contract: money
Simply by moving clubs, the player can maintain, or improve their annual pay, while gaining a signing-on fee from the new club.
So, in simple financial terms, a player may be much better off doing that, than staying on their existing contract.
And it's much harder for the parent club to compete with a club, which is saving millions of pounds through not paying a transfer fee and is thereby able to pay a hefty signing on fee to the player.
I have no idea if that is what happened with recent departures, but it seems to me to be the best move for the player and their familiies, given how short their careers are at best, which may be cut short at any moment by injury. |

It's a real shame we're losing him, would have loved to see him tear it up in the Championship. But at 22, with a World Cup around the corner and the chance to play in an established Premier League side that is not in freefall (Man U - not us!), the Chelsea move makes a lot of sense.
Will follow his season with interest and, no matter what, will still regard him in a way as one of our own. |

If we do decide to go for him, that would be an incredible statement of intent. Our biggest problem will be competing with a premier league side, particularly the newly promoted ones who will have noticed his capabilities.

Looked to me like England were playing more of a high press while Ireland hoofed the long ball. Ireland were also too slow on the transition back to defence. Looked very disorganised for England’s first. Ogbene saw a lot of the ball and looked useful. Thought he was in great positions for us against Fulham, but wasn’t passed the final ball much. I’m sure we will make better use of his talents back in the PL.
Proud to see the three Ipswich lads on an international stage though.
