I don't agree....
at 00:32 18 Sep 2025

I apologise for my part in that, Ulla. I didn't see it as a pile-on but several of us trying to persuade you where we disagreed with you. I certainly didn't see it as personal either.

I was surprised by the verdict being overturned and can't recall the full details when that happened. I think there were issues over a lack of remorse, lack of legal support and the lady at the centre of the case having learning difficulties.

As I say, though, I am sorry you felt that was a pile-on and I apologise for my part in that.

Why did the media and police lie so readily
at 22:54 17 Sep 2025

Yes, from that aerial footage there certainly was a large crowd. Could easily be 100,000 plus. Certainly more than would fit in many football stadia. I wonder if you have similar footage of a known crowd size like that leaving Wembley all at once after a capacity event.

EDIT: This has been trickier to find than I would imagine. So far there is this of a 22,500 crowd: https://www.alamy.com/22500-football-fans-depart-wembley-stadium-after-the-engla

This is around 120,000 for Elton John at Glastonbury. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amazing/comments/14iwhrr/the_crowd_for_elton_john_glast

And this crowd appears to be about 125,000.

All of this would fit with the estimated attendance at Unite the Kingdom of around 100,000-120,000 from the similar footage. This is still a concerningly large turnout for an event with the speakers and organisers that it had.

Your comment "The police and left media will go with the lowest estimate" suggests that you thought they had good cause to downplay it. I can't think of any reason they would have and of at least two why the opposite is true.

Indeed, the OP actually asks the question why did the media and police lie so readily when, in fact, there is no evidence that their figures are anything but the most reliable estimates.

Two things I’d change about football immediately…
at 22:30 17 Sep 2025

It would be an improvement but still lead to the 10 minute delay while they determine all the variables as to whether they were onside or not. Maybe have that but with the VAR call of one quick look and it is clearly wrong then overturn it but any other situation leave it as per the on-field call.

To be perfectly honest, what is the actual problem with goal hanging? Anything pumped into the area should be the keeper's or a foul on the keeper unless the area is already congested.

A lot of words with some triumphalist music behind it but what do they actually mean?

Does he really believe this country has been sold out to immigrants who all get benefits and the natives get nothing? When he says natives are no longer seen in London where we are the minority, what does he actually mean by that? And when he says our wealth is gone in taxes, how does he square that with his complaint that natives are not entitled to benefits?

Absolutely agree with your sentiments there.

I would say that we are all different. Your Mum absolutely made the decision for the right motives but I would say we are all different and some want to remain involved whilst others might prefer to avoid tainting the good memories. We are all different but I am glad your enduring memories of your Gran are good ones.

I'll tell you once I wake up.

It was just an old joke based on your driving for over 30 years comment. The old insurance claim comments classic. Another favourite was "the pedestrian was all over the place. I had to swerve several times before I hit him!"

After driving for over 30 years I finally fell asleep at the wheel.

No surprise really. Should take regular rest breaks.

As with operating any machinery, the more familiar you become with it the more you do things without thinking about them. That complacency can easily lead to dangerous actions unless there is a regular reference and check against health safety.

Why would the police go with the lowest estimate? What is their motivation? Surely, they would gain from over-estimating the numbers if anything as that would suggest they did a better job and justified their own numbers policing it.

The problem with manifestos was that there was never any obligation to stick to them once elected (which does make sense because situations are always changing). It is disappointing how much more politics has become about personality and image and how much that has become attacking the character of the opposition.

You do realise that "you guys" is a collection of a large number of people who post, most of whom remain polite, but challenge statements that they disagree with. That large collection frequently disagree with each other and challenge each other over things.

I don't get why the forum would be better if no one disagreed with your views.

On suspicion of "malicious communications". Sounds rather like they struggled to find any charge to arrest them for. How is it malicious communication?

I never saw Beattie play but did see Woods play in a testimonial well after he had retired from professional football. He was very skilful then and a delight to watch.
