Now the gagging orders are off re Hillsborough disaster
at 23:15 23 Jun 2021

Dear Redacted,

Thank you for your e-mail of 28th May about the Hillsborough disaster and the Public Authorities (Accountability) Bill. Please accept my apologies for the delay in getting back to you, since we continue to receive a large amount of correspondence.

I take note of the points you raise on this matter. The Hillsborough disaster was an exceptional tragedy for the families affected, the local community that still bears the scars of what happened, and the country. It is very important to support and to ensure that the families get answers in their quest for justice.

I understand that Mr Justice William Davis ruled in May 2021 there was no legal case for Mr Denton, Mr Foster and Mr Metcalf to answer as the statements involved had been prepared for the public inquiry chaired by Lord Taylor in 1990. As this was not a statutory inquiry and therefore was not considered a court of law, there was not a course of public justice that could be perverted.

In order to implement the Hillsborough Law, the Public Authority (Accountability) Bill would need to be reintroduced to Parliament. The Bill previously failed to pass before the 2017 General Election, though the Government is committed to ensuring families have all the support they need and has looked at this bill.

I will continue to closely monitor developments.

With best wishes.

Yours Peter.

Slovakia’s keeper to receive

I bet he feels dreadful. The ball was in the air for so long and he had jumped and was on the way back down when he played it. Dreadful mistake.

However, I also remember the Colombian defender who scored an own goal in the World Cup and what happened to him after.

So this board would be a far nicer place if the only people on it were those who agree with you?

And it is those who disagree with you who are trying to shut down the debate?

Interesting logic you display there. And when you have a moment, please do show your working on why we will never re-join the EU once the empty promises have been shown for what they continue to be.

The only thing I don't get is why people seemed to think we would be any better.

Ultimately efficiently done what we should have done in getting through the group and all with Kane not being at his best.

We will do well to get more than through one more round. Considering that will be one of France, Germany or Portugal unless Hungary do something unexpected, I would be surprised if we do get beyond the next round.

Is Kane carrying something?

The England team?

EDIT: To be fair, he clearly isn't at the moment but my point is that he is our only really standout player. I cannot see us going a lot further in this tournament.

Bet you are really looking forward to the campaign to rejoin. Or did you think that one vote would be the be-all and end-all of it?

Maybe if the promised beautiful sunlit uplands had materialised, it would have been. Unfortunately, the Brexit reality has done nothing to dismiss "project fear".

They did that with Rip van Wolfswinkel a few promotions ago and it didn't work out.

Very surprised they are loaning an inexperienced promising player - they will do all the developing in their relegation season and Chelsea will reap the benefits. I suppose they will be hoping he will make all the difference to keeping them up.

Is my memory failing me or wasn't 12 weeks longer than the original manufacturers advice anyway?

I think I am in a funny mood tonight but I expected this thread to be about a diminutive ex-midfielder and whether we should take him on as a coach ... or whether he would be a good choice to do your kitchen or something.

Denmark will meet Wales in the next round.

If you want the stadium to be rammed, play at the home of the rams.

Never mind, they never do sound any good when they need explaining do they?

England on 4 points and guaranteed at least 3rd place, so yes will be in the next round.

It is definitely head-to-head first if it is only 2 teams. Can't do head-to-head where 3 teams are involved.

Watson has helpfully put up the current squad
at 21:52 21 Jun 2021

Depends how you interpret "get a chance". For me, if he has the odd first team match (and I don't mean simply a meaningless cup where we make 11 changes), that is a chance. I think he looked good enough to get some bench time and maybe even the odd start if he does well if he comes off the bench at all.

If we do have a much more streamlined squad that sort of thing becomes possible for promising fringe players instead of having to get football into the legs of our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th choice CBs.

I guess the answer is for us to play at Pride Park.

First decider is result between the two sides. I wonder if the next one (and therefore when 3 or 4 teams are involved) is goals scored rather than goal difference - just guessing.

I think I should have had Lukaku in my fantasy team.

Too late now.

I think any team finishing third on 4 points would be very unfortunate to fail to go through.
