COOK IN!
at 10:22 15 Sep 2021

Why is the OP pretending that we’re the only side with massive upheaval in this league? It’s massively common for clubs to turnover huge amounts of players in League 1/2.
Wigan signed 16 new players over the summer and are 2nd
MK Dons signed 14 new players, lost their manager on the eve of the season, and are in the playoff zone
Heck even Morecambe, they lost their promotion winning manager/captain and best player after coming up, signed 19 players ((not unprecedented!) and have a new manager and are ahead of us in the league.

These clubs haven’t signed the caliber of player or manager we have either. It’s not unreasonable to expect more than 3 points after 6 games and two embarrassing cup defeats!

I think we're forgetting slightly how much individual errors have costs us

Guys, if we'd simply have won all our games 3-0, we'd be top of the league!
Keep the faith, trust the process

Tomas Holy last 2 seasons.....
at 09:19 29 Jul 2021

Imagine the overreaction when Hladcky makes an error...

Holy's good enough to be starting keeper for half the sides in this league, more than fine to be our backup and only play a few games as and when needed. Totally agree with Joe's initial post

Liam Gibbs to norwich... (n/t)
at 16:08 7 Jul 2021

"One of the best player tradesman in the industry" - I think Cook will be excellent for us, but lets calm down a bit. He's 54 and never managed a team above mid table Championship, majority in the lower leagues...if he's one of the best in the business, the business has been missing something for a decade and a bit. He's not infallible

Pretty disappointed with this Gibbs stuff, clearly one of, if not our most promising academy prospect going for what will end up being a nominal fee at tribunal. Poor business by the club at best (this isn't some statement on the new regime's overall direction, which is very promising, but there will be hiccups). Hopefully one of these other interested PL clubs gazumps them lot, so that sting goes a bit

We MUST sell Andre in the summer
at 10:44 7 Apr 2021

Really struggling to understand the logic that he's not good enough for a mid table League 1 side, yet people think we can get £2m for him!

He's now 22, the top clubs who were interested when he was a young pup at 16/17 won't be anymore because they can't stash him in the U23s and hope he makes it as something...the clubs who might be interested will be ones where he'd likely be a squad player in the Championship, and they barely have a pot to piss in after Covid unless they make a big sale themselves.

Personally I think he is underrated by our fans, and would be one I look to hold onto for next season. With Cook preferring a 4-2-3-1 where the wingers cut in, and full backs push forward, he should have more options and movement ahead of him (if Cook is as advertised), where we will see the best of his passing. Hopefully Downes can be the muscle alongside him, or a new CDM type player.

Foden
at 10:35 7 Apr 2021

Foden is top class, and proved so last night...but how good does Bellingham look too? Kid is only 17 and he was bossing the midfield in a Champions League quarter final! Absolutely ridiculous talent, he'd be in my Euros squad for sure (we've got a laughably good amount of attacking midfielders to choose from!)

Club is spiralling out of control
at 10:15 18 Feb 2021

The toxic environment must be incredible at the moment, itfc_joe is referencing how everyone hates Lambert, Stuart Watson was saying similar yesterday...imagine going in to work at the club everyday at the moment. Must be soul destroying, especially for those who care and have a long standing connection with the club (like you mention Mick Mills!)

In the long term, most areas of the club receive no leadership or plan from above, let alone proper funding. I'm sure there are loads of fantastic people who keep things above water in many areas, but we all see how run down things are at Portman Road...it's depressing to see what we've become. It's going to take a long time to turn things round, a new manager will hopefully begin that process...but I don't hold my breath either

Preferred Lambert replacement?
at 14:38 17 Feb 2021

I quite like the Cowley brothers, I think under the constraints of Evans they would be best placed to rekindle some pride both on and off the pitch at the football club, and get us back to the Championship.

To be honest, they are one of many examples of a club you could name that are showing us up...just happens to be more pertinent being our main rivals.

Parachute payments are a big advantage yes, but you still have to take advantage of them and there are numerous examples of clubs pissing them up the wall. Sunderland were getting them in League One, and still couldn't manage to get up from this god forsaken league!

What's the infrastructure we are missing?
at 12:30 17 Feb 2021

We're run like it's still 1980, and not a good club even back then!

It's embarrassing how far behind modern football we are, clubs like Brentford/Barnsley, heck it pains me to say it, but even the budgies up the road (there are plenty more) continue to look forward and innovate with proper actual recruitment strategies and progression pathways for youngsters, whereas we're stuck in this constant mire of meaningless "plans" and no actual strategy or proper investment bar pumping some money into the playing squad to hopefully paper over the cracks.

I am hoping against all hope that one day Evans appoints a proper CEO and Director of Football who show up just how incompetent this place has been run for the last decade...but I am not holding my breath

Nice article about Dan Lawrence here:
at 09:58 12 Jan 2021

I don't think they can bring in another spinner for Curran, the tail would be incredibly long then as none of the options in the squad (Crane, Parkinson, Virdi) can hold a bat. Maybe if Moeen is fit for the 2nd test he could come in at 7.

Personally fear it might be a long winter for us, the Indians look very good down under at the moment, albeit they appear to all be injured so we might have a shot!

Does anyone here know Lee O’Neill?
at 09:55 12 Jan 2021

I think he's clearly too thinly spread across the club, and even in his role as a quasi Director of Football he doesn't even have the power to make decisions, as it's quite clear Evans is setting the goals for the manager and what style of play he wants (EADT have reported that was Evans latest eureka moment this summer).

Don't know if we really know how good he is, he's currently mired in the shambles that is Evans's running of the football side of this club.

We are a negative football club.
at 10:01 16 Dec 2020

I'm not quite sure you grasp how disastrous not getting up this season would be for the football club. I don't think it's simply a case of, "hey ho let it play out and if we don't get up, we don't get up". Staying in this league with the salary cap coming in, our evident complete lack of nous at owner/chairman level on how to run a football side of things.

Also, I think we're decidedly more patient as a fanbase than many others. We're only negative because we don't have anything to pissing cheer for! Only us and Oldham in the last twenty years in the EFL haven't achieved a promotion or some sort of cup win (even the Papa Johns!).

I’m sure we’ve all read the transcript from PL interview with Watson
at 08:21 3 Dec 2020

The interview is obviously verging on Trumpian, and boll0cks...but the most worrying thing to come from the podcast is Watson saying he doesn’t sense any change on the horizon because Evans is putting a lot of stock in the injuries being a factor and because he “imposed last this style of play in the summer, he isn’t going to sack Lambert this early into using it.

What sort of alternative universe does he live in???

Lee O’Neill quotes for bangate and this forum
at 12:54 2 Dec 2020

It really only is blind loyalty and hope that is keeping me interested at this point - if I removed the emotional attachment I have, I don't think I would have a logical reason if I was being totally true to myself as to why I'd continue to go to match days when things reopen fully (not a ST holder).Especially as it seems a Covid/Brexit induced recession is around the corner so the purse strings will have to be tightened.
If they start losing loyal, diehard fans they won't have anyone left before they know it - why would any kid choose to support ITFC? You'd have to be mad too...

lack of foreign players

It's far from the top of the list of problems at the club, but the seemingly non existent plan for recruitment (which includes not using overseas) is certainly an issue. Even if we remove the likes of Leeds, at this level Barnsley used the German (iirc) market very effectively to get promoted.
