A paragraph from Barnsley supporting Dickie Bird's 'Britain'

I agree, if Kuqi had not got injured we were very much on for a top 2 finish so it was the killer.

We had got ourselves in a pretty good position that second time against West Ham by getting the 2-2 draw at Upton Park. I think we were in a stronger position going into that second leg than we were going to their place the year before leading 1-0.

Season 2004/05 was one of the many that we have had in out history that you can look back on and think 'what could have been and what should have been'.

Bobby Robson appointment as England manager.
at 14:18 1 Jun 2020

Yes, no doubt.

There were several clubs that were interested in and/or attempted to get him which, apart from anything else, must have made him feel pretty good about himself as I suppose it would most people doing a job well enough for someone else to want them to work for them.

Also each time a club sniffed around it would have strengthened his hand at Portman Road because the Cobbold's were desperate to try to keep him happy.

He must have generally been very happy here otherwise he could have engineered an exit but,as you said, he was very close to leaving at least once.

Probably,it was replacing the sacked Ken Knighton and Frank Clark.

Leading up to the second leg of the UEFA Cup Final there was some suggestion that if we did not end up with the trophy Bobby Robson was getting a bit disillusioned so perhaps they thought they had a chance.

I wish we had one the title at least once under SBR.

edit-just checked and yes,Alan Durban went to Sunderland in summer 1981.

According to TMWMTT the approach for Bobby Robson was not made until after the 1982 World Cup,which ended on 11th July and he officially took up the post on 1st September.

The last sentence in Bobby Robson's 'Time On The Grass' when he talks about turning down an approach from Sunderland in the summer of 1981 is a quote that Bobby attributes to Patrick Cobbold "The only way Bobby Robson will leave this club with our blessing is to become manager of England."

I don't think we were actually punching above our weight at the time Glassers.
For the size of the club perhaps we were but you cannot really punch above your weight for a decade-for a season or two you can but not for ten.

We were, for a long period of time, one of the top four clubs in the Country and for some of that time one of the top two.

Yes and most certainly not for a person that is in charge of the Government at the moment.

R.I.P.

Yes I remember him from that and remember his voice from 'Thomas'-something that Ringo Starr also voiced.

Good interview. Berra was excellent here. Underrated by some at times!

No we have not.

A defender that defended and defended very well and as you said in your headline,he was underrated by some.

I knew that we would miss him when he had gone and we are still missing him.

Was he an exhibit?

I have never met the man but I do not doubt that he is a top bloke.

Season Ticket Payments

I can understand people wondering about possible refunds on any unplayed games for 2019/20 but there was ample opportunity for people NOT to renew for 2020/21 so now complaining about being charged if you did not cancel seems a bit strange.

I pay upfront anyway and have paid for 2020/21 and I am not interested in any possible refunds on that or the remainder of 201920-my few pounds can be added to all the money that Marcus Evans is apparently making out of ITFC.

Yes, even with recent trips to Barnsley there is likely to be a conversation with one of their supporters or maybe a steward about THAT day.

They certainly seemed to really enjoy their day out despite, from their point of view, the result.

It really was a great atmosphere before during and, as far as I am aware, after the game.

If Barnsley had been beaten by Birmingham in their semi final I do not think that the friendliness on the day between Barnsley supporters and ours would have been replicated if it had been Birmingham and us.

The very hostile atmosphere for the league cup game at Birmingham a couple of years later suggests that May 29th 2000 might not have been such a fun day off the pitch if our opponents had been them.

My son was 18 and we went on one of the 90 or so coaches from PR-the second coach to leave PR I think.

Couple of pints chatting to Barnsley supporters before the game, I think it was agreed that the result would be 2-1 or something but it was not agreed which team would get the 2.

I had to drive home from Ipswich when we got back, remember driving through Kesgrave with blue and white scarves hanging out of car windows

It seems that way to me.

Either Cummings is top dog or he has enough nasty information on all those grovelling to him for them to be afraid of him being on the outside.

not to mention being worried about their jobs in the cabinet.

It seems that Cummings is probably the most powerful person in the Country at the moment seeing as so many supposedly important people are grovelling to him.
