Russell Martin says he expects to learn more ‘tonight or tomorrow’ about whether Whittaker is going to be recalled, which suggests it isn’t being handled by him? |
 | Forum Thread | Summer Transfer Guesses at 12:44 2 May 2022
If I was given £1 to put on a player that Ipswich were going to attempt to bring in this summer, it would be .......... Luke Plange on loan from Crystal Palace. Plange was brought by Palace in January from Derby for £1 million, and then sent back out on loan to Derby where he has scored 4 goals, whilst also getting 2 assists in his 19 starts and 6 substitute appearances. These numbers are decent considering this is his first season in professional football and of course the off the field problems at Derby. Reasons why I think Ipswich will be after him: He fits the bill of who McKenna said he likes to work with, "young, hungry, technical and athletic players". We also know McKenna likes quick strikers who can run in behind teams. When Rooney was asked about Plange's strengths he said "He can run in behind teams, he’s quick and he is also strong enough to hold the ball up", he also described him as a "clever player". Which furthers the evidence that he is the type of player McKenna and Ipswich will be looking at. Anyone else got any guesses? |
 | Forum Thread | Aluko, Chaplin or Celina? at 14:02 9 Jan 2022
Having these three as options for the number 10 position is frankly ridiculous for a League One club. However, who is the best option? As good as Aluko has been, his goal and assist output is lower than both Chaplin’s and Celina’s. But, it seems the team performs better when Aluko starts! *All stats based on League One games and according to whoscored.com Points per game when they have started (League Games): Aluko — 10 starts — 1.7 PPG Chaplin — 10 starts — 1.5 PPG Celina — 9 starts — 1.55 PPG Goals: Aluko — 3 (in 16) Chaplin — 5 (in 18) Celina — 4 (in 13) Assists: Aluko — 0 (in 16) Chaplin — 2 (in 18) Celina — 3 (in 13) Key passes per game: Aluko — 0.5 PG Chaplin — 0.6 PG Celina — 1.5 PG They all offer different things! Celina offers outrageous flair and skill, with real creativity at times. Chaplin is a goalscorer & a championship level footballer. Whilst Aluko works so hard for the team and glides past players with ease, he can look class at times. For the foreseeable future you have to stick with Aluko due to his excellent last few performances. However, there is a part of me that would love to see Celina start in the number 10 role. Reading McKenna’s comments about Celina (“He’s someone we are really looking forward to working with” “He is a big talent” “I’m fully aware of what he can do and what he can bring to the team”), it is hard not to imagine how good he could look in this team under McKenna. The stats suggest he is the best all-round number 10 we have and I can’t wait to see him unleashed again! |

 | Forum Thread | Update on the points required to be in the play-offs by Boxing Day thread at 10:41 24 Nov 2021
We now need to win the next 5… What's required for Ipswich to be 6th by Boxing Day? by PattiswickBlue 5 Oct 2021 16:11Gameweek 24 stats — (Boxing Day)
20/21 after 24 games 6th — 40 points
19/20 after 24 games 6th — 37 points
18/19 after 24 games 6th — 41 points
17/18 after 24 games 6th — 39 points
16/17 after 24 games 6th — 38 points
15/16 after 24 games 6th — 40 points
Average points haul for 6th position over the past six seasons, after 24 games is — 39 points. Therefore, Ipswich need to amass 29 points from 14 games, to reach Mark Ashton and Mike O’Leary’s aim of “being in and around it at Christmas time”. An example of a way that Ipswich could do that is by winning 9, drawing 2 and losing 3 games. To achieve these 9 wins it means Ipswich will have to beat sides like Sunderland, Wigan, Wycombe and Portsmouth all away from home. The next 14 games:
Shrewsbury (H), Cambridge (A), Portsmouth (A), Fleetwood (H), Plymouth (A), Wycombe (A), Oxford (H), Sunderland (A), Rotherham (H), Crewe (H), Charlton (A), Wigan (A), Sunderland (H) and Gillingham (A).
It requires one hell of a run against the league’s best sides, I am a big fan of Cook but he has made this incredibly difficult for himself. However, you could see this as an opportunity to beat the best sides and stamp our authority on the league. It starts with Shrewsbury at home on Saturday, which is an absolute MUST WIN game.

 | Forum Thread | Scott Fraser & Today’s Game. at 19:17 25 Sep 2021
Scott Fraser is excellent, all our best moves come through him, he really is class for this division. I bet the same people who thought we were rubbish today are the same people who rated Scott Fraser as the worst player today! |
 | Forum Thread | Humphreys at 13:20 13 Aug 2021
I was really impressed by him on Tuesday night, would like to see him involved in the first team this season. Loved the fact that whenever he got the ball his first thought was to play forward, including a few excellent passes in behind the Newport defense. On the back of that performance, he is one to watch for sure! Makes me wonder whether we really need to sign two CM's, whilst we have Harper, Evans and Nolan at the club already. Humphreys and El Mizouni seem perfectly good backup options. Although, wouldn't be surprised if we see Nolan leave before the end of the window. |
 | Forum Thread | Contract Lengths! at 22:49 12 Jul 2021
I can’t remember/find the exact quote from Cook but I know he said he hates having players out of contract. Permanent only: Burns - 3 years Evans - 3 years Harper - 3 years Hladky - 3 years Penney - 2 years with an option for a 3rd Pigott - 3 years This is good to see. The days of signing journeyman or has beens on year long contracts are over….. I hope. |

 | Forum Thread | James Wilson at 15:14 20 Mar 2021
Wilson is such a limited footballer, in everything I have read about Cook he hates not retaining possession. How many times do we see Wilson needlessly head the ball or kick the ball out of play, when he should be able to find a team mate. With the way Cook wants to play Wilson doesn’t fit in. Woolfenden is a ball playing CB and Cook builds his sides from the back, he has had a Ball Playing CB in everyone of his successful sides and unfortunately that is not Wilson or Nsiala. Does it not worry anyone else that despite Wilson being 32 he has never been a first choice CB for a club apart from Oldham. Also, he wasn’t deemed good enough for a league 2 side when we got him? James Wilson is not good enough to play for Ipswich Town and anyone who thinks he should get a new contract is part of the problem as you are accepting poor players! |
 | Forum Thread | The 5 Point Plan at 11:49 18 Mar 2021
I saw a post on twitter with what changes/adaptations would want to see to the five point plan; if Evans stays on. ‪Regarding Point 1 (Academy) - Need to employ more youth coaches from outside the club, Ipswich are trying to develop to many youth coaches at once. Get the best coaches available, will increase academy players quality.‬ ‪Point 2 (Salary) - As Mick Mills said; we need to buy quality rather than quantity. Instead of buying 10 players, buy 4 quality players.‬ We have to manage the budget better, we waste money on loans and free transfers who are not worth it. For example, Ward, Cornell, Hawkins, Roberts, Thomas, Earl, Georgiou, Edun, Graham. I think you get the point now! ‪Point 3 (Transfer Fees) - I agree with this point, I think we should buy young players low and sell them high. But, for this to work we need to improve our recruitment. Our last successful purchase was probably Waghorn. You could argue KVY. Hurst’s recruitment was an attempt at this but it was woeful, none of the players he signed are championship quality, apart from potentially Edwards on form. ‪Point 4 (Stable Management) - We have not seen this one in action yet! However, I would agree with it, we need to get right behind Cook and give him the time he needs, as he will be successful for us. ‬ ‪Point 5 (Attractive/Exciting Football) - If we want this our recruitment needs to improve. I.E buying players to suit 4-2-3-1. Dynamic Full Backs, Pacey Direct Wingers and a Creative Number 10. Not signing a 35 full back to play in a 4-3-3! |
 | Forum Thread | Fleetwood at 18:12 16 Mar 2021
Will be tough opponents tonight. Under Grayson they have played 10: Won - 4 Drawn - 4 Lost - 2 5 of these games have been home games; against Doncaster, Charlton, Accrington & Gillingham. They have Won 2 and Drawn 3, so they are unbeaten at home. Their recent form is strong to! They have DWWWD in their last 5 games. However, after all this I still predict a 2-1 Ipswich win! But would be relatively pleased with a draw, as this is one of our more difficult games remaining. |
