U18s Hammered at Palace

So booboy82 and boowhiteboy (and no doubt Darkhorse et al) now have something else to get their negative teeth into.

Yes, clearly a gulf has developed over time which needs to be closed. But we’ve started and MA prioritised attaining cat 1 status precisely so we can attract better talent from farther afield, begin the long haul of rebuilding a proper youth structure, and once again produce top tier players.

Nostalgia aside it’s nearly 50 years since we did this. Yes we brilliantly won another FAYC in 2005 but that’s 20 years ago. Even then only one or two of that team came through. Whereas the Southampton team we beat featured Walcott and McGoldrick with the young Lallana and Gareth Bale on the sub bench. Truth is we were already failing in the sense of producing top talent and we haven’t really produced top tier talent thru the youth set-up since the mid-late 70’s.

We now have a great chance of closing the gap: but the booboys should stop carping and accept the process won’t happen overnight any more than rebuilding the stadium or becoming a PL fixture.

Ipswich Town 5-0 Sheffield United - Match Report
at 05:37:13

Nunez had a great cameo debut. Very clever positioning, good vision and passing. And a great dead ball player. KM may need to prepare himself for a selection headache when picking two from three for midfield? Not sure how JackT and Cam fit in now unless we get injuries and
suspensions….

Darkhorse.

New word definition for Oxford dictionary in 2026

“A long winded, repetitious, negatively charged random thought generator with over itchy fingers, excessive free time on his hands and unfortunately access to an internet connected device”.

The long winded nature of that definition is a reflection of the subject matter

As usual Darkhorse has to slant a thread away from the actual topic to become a sideswipe at Club Management and other fans who disagree with him.

I’m tired of reading Darkhorse’s long-winded, insanely repetitious, self Important diatribes. Some of what he says is right. A lot is just his opinion that I disagree with (but recognise his right to hold). But why does he feel the need to bombard us with the same misery every day. And where does he get the time to do it?

Ipswich Town 2-2 Derby County - Match Report
at 13:00:17

If we kept clean sheets we’d have 10 points and be 4th. As it is we haven’t kept a clean sheet for 23 games (a club record) so for all the moaning about our impotency up front, I’d say our bigger problem over the last 140 odd games has been defensive frailty. That didn’t matter during games in FL1 and Champs as we scored more than we conceded. But that situation changed a year ago. I wish the free scoring days would come back BUT we must address the defensive issues (and I’m not just fingering the back line).

McKenna: Clarke, Al-Hamadi and Humphreys Making Progress From Injuries
at 01:52:38

Wes and Connor are much longer term. Last time I heard Wes unlikely to return and be Match Fit until around year end. Suspect he could then go out on a loan unless we move out one or two other wingers (which on current form is possible). It rather looks like his injury came at a really bad time for his career at Town…..

Quintet in Ireland Squad

This was predictable but is still unfortunate. Even if we sign 2-3 more players we won’t get a chance in the Int’l break to bed them all in. Mind you at the current rate of progress re transfers……….

Egeli: I Know There's a Town Bid, Up to the Clubs to Agree

This entire transfer Window smacks of MA wanting to be very cautious with money. Bit hard to understand given strong player sales and also some pressure now to get up to speed faster. So not very comforting to watch this saga drag on. Even the upcoming Int’l break may not be that good for KM to fix the team issues as quite a few going to be absent .. possibly including this guy.

Darkhorse’s misery loaded view of MA and KM (etc) has now been inflicted on us dozens of times. I find it incredibly boring because (a) every post is predictably repetitious and negative and (b) due to the sheer length of his diatribes.

Newcastle Rebuff Town Loan Approach
at 07:10:50

@timitfc where did you hear Akpom was injured already? I don’t recall reading that.

Meantime lots of doom and gloom. Too much. We’re undefeated having played two tough games. And we’re only going to improve from here as Jaden returns, Jens and Akpom build fitness, as Azor adapts to the speed of English football and gets back his relationship with Jens. And i may add as CamH gets into flow of weekly Championship football.

Yes we prob could do with a bit more depth, another striker and a MF dynamo but they don’t grow on trees.meantime we’re already close to being where we need to be and I think regardless of what happens between now and Sept 1st we’ll be much stronger after the international break.

Town Reject Coventry Woolfenden Approach
at 03:58:39

The thread was meant to be about Woolfie not another excuse to moan about MA or KM etc. So back to Woolfie. He was a starter in two promo winning sides. Whilst I assume he was ok to be less regular in the PL it’s understandable he’d not want to drop to being just a back-up in Town’s Championship v2 squad. He wants to play (as does I hear Christian). They don’t want to end their careers having sat on a bench for most of it. So it’s ok to say don’t sell Woolfie but we have to try to see it from his perspective. Even if he does stay it’s likely we’ll sell him if we get promoted and then want to strengthen the CBs. Ie we say we want him now but we probably just using him. It’s a very tough position for Woolfie

McKenna: Good Loan Moves For Keepers
at 03:31:37

I’m hearing he (Christian) and Luke both now pushing to move on, one way or another. Can totally understand why both would feel that way despite having 2/3 years remaining on their contracts. Luke was a stalwart of our promo sides and whilst content to be a PL squad player, you can see why he’d not want to be just a squad player back in the Champs. (No doubt same applied to CamB).

Back to CW; he has now missed several seasons of regular first team football. Surely that must have impacted his confidence and performances. The error for the Bromley goal was uncharacteristic. It may well be he needs a reset and regular football even if only as a precursor to a return to Town although that may be unlikely if Slicks has a great season at Barnet and returns next season as #2.

Chaplin: In Spells We Lacked Urgency
at 10:35:21

Agree with a lot of what Broadbent23 says. Corners all too deep and loopy. We looked ineffective when attacking them and at the other end we looked weak when defending their set pieces. That said without CW’s moment of Aro Muric style madness, we’d not have gone one down.

JC tried hard but 90% of his efforts ended in lost possession. Totally ineffective and CO only marginally better. For me that weakness on the wings was our biggest problem. That said I thought AAH looked good after GH came on when he dropped out wide.
