McKenna: Davis Limping Pretty Heavily
at 07:51:58

I rolled my ankle several times playing squash. Each time it felt like I’d broken it as it hurt like hell. But recovered in around a week. That may not be very relevant for a pro soccer player but I doubt this sort of injury is the type that can be “patched up” esp in a contact sport. Maybe for Huddersfield. Luckily we have Harry and CamH well capable of covering Leif.

McKenna Named Championship Manager of the Season
at 11:30:55

Am delighted for KM, Wes and Leif but I agree it’s ridiculous to make these type of decisions with some clubs still having more 10% of their games to play. Feel for Sam. His impact and achievements are far greater than outsiders recognise. Signing him was an absolute master stroke. Was that Paul C? I think so and so still think kindly of him for it. He inherited a right mess and couldn’t get to grips with it but he did bring in some fabulous players.

Later Kick-Off at Hull Due to Sky Coverage
at 02:43:16

We’ve got 60 Town fans here in Asia in a newish “Asian TOUR” WhatsApp chat group who (except those in ANZ) will despair that the Hull ko is now at 2-3am in most of Asia instead of 9-10pm which had meant we could watch at a pub with mates. Then a few days later it’s same again at Coventry.

Of course we are irrelevant but I really do feel clubs should push back on some of these Sky changes. The Boxing Day late ko was also diabolical. The good news is Leicester now have to play at Millwall on Tues evening then Plymouth for Sky on Friday evening. That’s an awful schedule so guess have to thank Sky for that small mercy…

Later Kick-Off at Hull Due to Sky Coverage
at 16:37:32

I can’t believe Sky can dictate things like this without protest from the Club. This change means a 3am arrival back home for our away fans. Not to mention the team who then have get to Coventry on Tuesday evenings.

Burgess: It's Gruelling, a Lot of Games and They're Intense
at 17:38:47

11 hours time diff and 25-30 hours door to door from Canberra... Given the last Oz game is Tues evening and our game is Friday afternoon in Lancashire, I’d say he has zero chance of being fit to play even if he does manage to get back to UK at some stage on the Thursday. Fortunately we have Fridge who may not be left footed but who has never let us down. (In fact the goals conceded when he plays are almost identical to when Cam plays).

No Change to Town Kit Despite Castore Acquiring Umbro Rights
at 06:18:02

Interesting. I think concerns re Castore quality may be misplaced. Under the agreement Castore will market Umbro’s product in UK and half a dozen other major W.European markets - presumably boosting Umbro market access to those markets in a more cost effective manner than Umbro could do it. The Implication is that Umbro designs and produces and Castore markets and distributes. It looks like the Umbro brand and quality product will be retained, as Castore also hails this deal as their emergence as a multi brand business.

Woolfenden: It's About Being Brave and Setting Traps
at 02:48:28

We all need to give the young guy a break. 3 years ago he was barely a starter in a mediocre L1 side. With top coaching he improved with the rest of the team and became a top L1 defender. We got promoted and he’s improved again and is now a decent Championship CB. With continued coaching and playing against better players, he will continue to improve. Maybe he will or maybe he won’t become a Terry Butcher class CB but if he’s good enough for KMc we need to get off his back.

Tractor Girls Return to Winning Ways Against Rugby Borough
at 10:29:52

It’s going to be tough to get promoted whilst there are only 12 teams in each division. Hopefully as ladies soccer matures there will be more scope to increase division sizes and thus allow more teams to move up and down. Noting at present only one team moves each way between the top and second tiers. At least the rule change this season allows two down from Champs to the N and S Premier divisions - that’s a start anyway

Palace Reportedly Fail in Move For McKenna

This entire topic is boring and by talking about it we simply give O2 to to the media pundits who write this drivel. We’d all be better off doing as KMcK says and staying focused on the next game.imho

Head of Recruitment Rejoins Manchester United
at 08:24:25

I expect he got a huge pay rise and they dangled the carrot of promotion to overall head of recruitment in 2-3 years. You can see why that would be attractive to him even if disappointing to us. Anyway never fear. MA will have a succession plan tor all key roles

McKenna: In the First Half Everything That Could Go Wrong, Did Go Wrong
at 01:08:23

Some blame Jackson for a bad first half and suggest Moore would have changed things - but truth is the whole team were off it in the first half. The ball was bouncing around out of control. None of our passes came off. We gifted the ball away so many times. We seldom got near their box and looked inept. That said without a cruel deflection and a clear offside, we may have gone in level at the break.

The second half however was Town at our best. I thought Sam was brilliant. Kiefer gave us the presence we needed up front but surely the key was that we were in control of the ball thru-out the pitch and were thus able to get balls into the final third. Ali was then also a plus and he was a bit unlucky not to grab the second for himself.

If we replicate the second half from here on we can still finish top 2

Medblue you’re mean hearted and on the face of it,
You’ve let down the badge. However it happened - if they stole what he had when they were presumably looking after his savings for him, and regardless of whether you think that was sensible or not, they’re cheats and he is now on hard times. Whatever happened to “Once a Blue….”

Baggott Nets Own Goal as Indonesia Exit Asian Cup to Australia
at 01:17:02

It was a deflection - sounds nothing to be ashamed of.

Both players must be disappointed at the way this protracted, low grade comp has gone. Esp CamB who has barely kicked a ball, lost his shirt to a rejuvenated Fridge, probably lost match fitness and won’t be back until mid Feb if Australia run to the final. He may well struggle to get his place back.

As to an EB loan. Is there really a proper football playing team out there who’ll give a starting slot thru the second half to a youngster who has barely kicked a competitive ball all season? If there is - great for Elkan but ….???

Jackson: Ipswich Interest Head-Turning For Al-Hamadi
at 00:53:29

In this window you take what you can get esp when only three days left. So if this young lad is good enough for KMc, he should be good enough for all of us - although suspect FMC still also wants an experienced stop gap striker - if one is available.

Wider question… does the game really need a winter transfer window?? Is it worth the disruption?

McKenna: No New Injuries, Donacien Seeing Specialist, Williams Still With United
at 08:17:01

@chepstow.. totally agree esp about respect for paying fans. If it’s correct that we’ve sold 22000+ in addition to the 4500 to the Stones - that is incredible for a non League opponent and that alone demands a strong team albeit with fringe players having their chances to start. Also agree with Bazza about momentum. Breaks haven’t been very kind to us so far this season. I’d like to see us really have a go and emulate Bournemouth’s result last night !.
