Ipswich Town 1-0 Lincoln City - Match Report
Light years away from the MM and huff and puff football that made my 240 mile round journey so painful.
Slick passing, settled team (now) and youngsters that you can identify with and feel proud of. What’s not to like !!
Wycombe Wanderers 1-1 Ipswich Town- Match Report
Best I’ve seen us play for a while - controlled passing and keeping it on the floor. We will win more matches than we lose playing like this. Garbutt class and Downes outstanding -keep the faith.
John O’Rourke – Unsung Hero
He was my first goal scoring hero. Visited the training ground before first season back in Div 1 and had got every player’s autograph except John O’Rourke’s. Billy Baxter saw our long faces and asked what was wrong. When we told him he walked right across the training pitch, got O’Rourke to sign and then walked all the way back with a cherry ‘There you go lads’
Lambert: We Got Caught Up With the Emotion of the Game
Drinking the 120 miles home gives you time to think ! Hate losing but ....
1) First half saw the young talent coming through and couple of moves had fans out of their seats. So much better than the MM huff and puff.
2) Can see how PL wants to play but team not good enough to do
It all the time.
When we came under pressure start of second half should have adapted and used long ball to force
Millwall back - then get back to paying football
3) We are down and pre season starts now
4) Dozzell is pure class - very touch he had was spot on and he can play the killer through ball - fear MM will cash in to pay for PH cock up
What Would Eric Gates Say?
1967 aged 11 my Dad took me to my first match. Although a lifelong Gooner he decided to turn left when we left to Portman Rd rather than right to Highbury. Even though game was a horrible 0-0 draw against Preston ( manger Billy McGarry wanted to offer fans their money back ) I have never regretted his decision or considered, like almost all of my school mates becoming a plastic Manc or Spurs fan. Your team is for life not for Christams. If ever a conversation starts with 'I used to support ...." I walk away.
Holland: Horrible Situation at Portman Road
I never thought our great club would even consider sacking a manager after just 3/4 months but.......
Something isn’t right and something has to change
The Long Haul
Really excellent blog and totally agree that this season is about building for the future. Looking forward again to a 240 mile round trip to Portman Road for excitement and entertainment. MM hoof ball took all the enjoyment away.
You should send it to
Alan Brazil (legend) who spouted rubbish about us selling all our young and established players this morning !!
Hurst: Proud, Honoured and Very Excited About Challenge Ahead
Let’s live up to our reputation of giving managers time. Happy to have a season where he allows our youngsters to gain the experience they need and then push for playoffs year after. He can only do that if he knows he has time on his side and a supportive owner. Also needs fans to understand bigger picture and not get on the backs of younger players.
McCarthy Leaves Town With Immediate Effect - Updated With Audio
When MM took over a Wolves fan,I know, accurately predicted how things would go -
Stability, improvement and we would avoid relegation. That was the good bit. However, we would have to expect boring, sterile football and a man who wouldn’t listen to advice / criticism. The fans would turn on him ( as they did at Wolves ) and it would end it tears. He isn’t a fortune teller, just someone who has witnessed first hand that MM’s greatest strength - doing things his way -
Is also his Achilles heel. Good luck to his new club as leopards don’t change their spots
. Have fans treated him harshly probably so, did he deserve all the abuse probably not but you can’t slag off your own fans, tell them of F off and then lie about it.
Dutch manager sounds promising
Chambers: We Want the Manager Here Next Season, Simple as That
Try a 240 mile round trip for a home game to find no atmosphere and huff and puff football. Time for MM to move on and fresh life to be injected into both players and supporters.
My fear is ME realises something has to change but it won’t be MM. It will be a slight loosening of the purse strings with the line ‘now lets see what MM can do’
McCarthy: I Won't Be Driven Out By a Small Section of Fans
MM / ME it is not just a ‘few fans’ - have supported The Town for almost 50 years through thick and thin. Every fan I have talked to knows it is time for a change. It is not a knee jerk reaction - there is gratitude for sorting out the mess in the first year and managing on a tight budget - BUT - MM isn’t the man to take us forward and his belligerent ( last week was a disgrace ) reaction to fans criticism has created a poisonous atmosphere. Change isn’t without risk but change there has to be. Ipswich Town isn’t a job or an investment - it is our passion.
Ipswich Town 0-1 Cardiff City - Match Report
Let's get some balance and perspective - there is no debate about whether MM should go. He can't motivate the team or the crowd - absolutely no atmosphere and this must impact the players. However, we were the better team and the only one trying to play football. Particularly impressed with Webster and Ward and with the youngsters we have coming through or back from injury next session isn't without hope. HOWEVER - MM isn't the man to take us forward. Stay away fans can see this and surely ME hasn't made his money by not listening.
In summary MM - thanks for initially keeping us up and stabilising us after the Keane/Jewel years but Jog On
McCarthy: An Outstanding Attacking Performance
Huff and puff football made it hard for me last season to enjoy 240 mile round trip to PR. Really enjoyed the 120 mile journey back after seeing a great attacking display ( as said in earlier posts). Really impressed with how MM has Celina playing. Obviously ( from showreel) a really skilful player that can take players on. However, last night he played for the team linking well with McGoldrick and when he had the opportunity to go for glory or play the killer pass he chose the later.
Hyam Set to Sign New Deal
With creative midfielders around him he would be in my team every week - but what do I know only been watching Town for over 40 years
McCarthy: Bonkers Start, Magnificent End!
Evans comments on game absolute proof that 'Salad Dodging' seriously damages your eye sight' - best display by Town for years. Fraser class, excellent shape to team and everyone working for each other. Apart from goals highlight for me was pass Hyam made to set Fraser free for the cross that Pitman couldn't quite reach. Shows he has this side to his game as well.
