The Beatles - Get Back
at 15:49 30 Nov 2021

Yes started watching it last night. It is very long so will keep chipping away at it over the next few days.

So far it’s giving a brilliant insight into the group’s dynamics at that time. It was often surmised that they were very fractured by then but this evidence would suggest otherwise. Even with Yoko sitting by John’s side almost all the time!

Paul seems to be the driving force by this time and does seem a bit narked by the others more laissez-faire approach at times.

Seeing him begin to form Get Back was really special to see. As was the part when George brought in a new song (I Me Mine) one morning and they all worked it into shape. Really special insight into their creative process.

If it takes another year then I am fine with that

Don’t get me wrong, I’m gutted that we sit where we do currently. My hopes and expectations were much higher. I guess I’m just willing to accept that throwing 19 new players and a whole new coaching team at it may result in it taking a bit longer to bed in than I’d first hoped.

I largely agree with the original post. As difficult as it is, given the years of misery we’ve endured, I feel we need to show more patience.

The club is in much better hands and is moving in a more positive direction overall. Results on the pitch may not be improving at the rate we all hoped for but changing the manager right now could serve to disrupt rather than help. I just don’t see any outstanding alternatives out there and I think Cook’s track record makes him worthy of a longer project.

The elephant in the room

I would expect a new LB will be high on Cook’s wish list in January. If Coulson can’t get/stay fit then send him back.

Why is sweet potato fries considered an upgrade to normal fries?

I’m with you 100% on the sweet potato thing but your post loses credibility when you cast aspersions in the direction of salad cream. Wonderful stuff it is.

Great goal. Really pleased for him. He has real potential that one.

Excellent, couldn’t have happened to a more appropriate team. Obviously used up all their game management dark tactics on Saturday.

Not made it there yet. It’s on the bucket list.

Did you do an email organised tour or make your own way?

Time for Lee Evans to drop out the team
at 09:14 14 Nov 2021

I thought Evans played well yesterday. He has been really important to our upturn in form. His set piece delivery is mostly good too.

It is clear that he and Morsy have a good understanding and I think they balance well with each other.

we’d miss either of these players quite badly if they weren’t in the side. I just don’t see any of the alternatives providing the same strength in that area.

Opposition view on match
at 09:04 14 Nov 2021

I think that’s spot on. They were well organised and looked slick on the ball in the first half. Their high press was causing us issues too. But we created the better chances and once we’d got back on the front foot we looked the only team likely to win it.

Disappointed we couldn’t convert one of our good situations into a goal but I thought it was another heartening performance which shows we are still a team on the rise.

I'm sure this has probably already been covered...
at 08:58 14 Nov 2021

And a number of those times the ref stopped the play, checked on the player but didn’t ask the physio to come on the pitch meaning the player stays on the pitch and therefore no consequence at all to Oxford. With not nearly enough additional time applied, their aim of stopping our flow was achieved with no consequence to them at all. Very poor.

Until there is stronger rules are put in place or referees grow a backbone or there’s independent time keeping to ensure all the time wasted is added on this will continue.

I’m there to be entertained. What Robinson’s Oxford did in that 2nd half was not entertaining. I expected better from him and them. Especially as they had played well in the first half and looked the better side.

That Celina shot that hit the post
at 18:32 13 Nov 2021

His touch is excellent but just seemed to take the wrong option time and again. I’d have prefer to see him wide with Chaplin or Fraser in the side in the no 10 position.

Yes I thought he got a touch on it. Good hit from Celina with very little back lift. Good save.

Celina was disappointing today. He does very little off the ball so if he’s not proving effective with the ball he ends up being a bit of a passenger.

Time wasting
at 18:12 13 Nov 2021

Is it time for an independent and more transparent time keeping system? A running clock which stops each time play stops and ends at 90. Every one in the ground could see it. A bit like rugby.

It might not stop teams like Oxford taking every opportunity to break the flow of the game but at least us fans and the more offensive-looking teams would not lose out in terms of time.

Refs (particularly at our level) don’t seem strong enough to cut out the dark tactics by some of these teams and never add on enough time. So frustrating today. Not for the first time this season.

How is squad looking currently?
at 13:48 11 Nov 2021

I think Joe has summarised the current position really well here.

I would probably disagree slightly on the CB position. I think we have just about what we need there. Burgess hasn’t lived up to my expectations yet but am hopeful he will come back stronger in due course. He will benefit from having Walton behind him. I just don’t think Hladky’s shakiness has helped him.

The FB areas are the possible problem areas for me. PC’s system puts great importance on these positions. None of our current squad have quite nailed it down imo (despite each showing some quality at various times).

This squad will continue to evolve so if we can strengthen again in January then great.

Keane still has a bit of bite left in him
at 17:40 7 Nov 2021

He’s good value on the telly these days. Can’t see he will ever make a success in management. He can’t abide players who aren’t as good as he was. So bearing in mind he was one of the best players I’ve ever seen I don’t think he will find many who he can abide!
