Goal 1 - their guy heads the ball downwards into the danger area. Flicks off a heel but was a rubbish clearance regardless.
Goal 2 - checked back on the highlights. Ladapo very clearly onside when Broadhead releases the ball. None of their defenders claimed offside so don't know where he's getting that from.
Overall, it got scrappy after the break, but the number of subs on both sides changed the game. We'd won by that stage and they wanted to limit the damage. Not sure we should read too much into it. Hirst didn't really have much service so I found it hard to judge him. Impressed with new boys Clarke & Broadhead. My Stoke mate is a season ticket holder and was disappointed to lose him |

Oh no, not the 'it's a statement' comment. I'm sure that was said last season when we tonked Wycombe (and the season before that, etc.). Follow your manager's lead and take each game as it comes. Great win, yes, and enjoy it, but the league has hardly started. The statement we need is getting promoted! |

Needs another loan (if he wants one). Has only been loaned to Colchester during a season when they lost the manager that brought him in and they were relegation threatened. They'd also reached their limit of loanees to name in the matchday squad. It wasn't that long ago that Premier League Brighton wanted him. I'd like to see us keep him. |

In the form tables over the last 12 matches we sit 4th (if we'd beaten Morecambe and Cheltenham, we'd sit 2nd just behind Rotherham). It's play off form, but the gap we needed to close from poor early season form has meant we've got a mountain to climb. @mojo - think you're underestimating the National League. Lots of league players have dropped down there this season as money and standard is good. Just ask Bolton who lost to a decent Stockport side in the FA Cup (didn't stop Bolton taking 6 points off us). Simpson needs competitive football and National League is a hell of a lot more competitive than our U23s. I'm all for it if it's the right move for Simpson. He'd need a good chance of game time. |

Reasons to be optimistic. Last season, after 25 games, Blackpool had 38 points, were 11th in the table and went on to win the play offs. This season, having played 25 games, we have 35 points (just 3 less) and are 10th. The main difference is that Blackpool were 2 points outside the play-offs at that stage, whereas we're 8 points short.
In the last 3 completed seasons (i.e. excluding Covid hit 2019-20) the 6th placed team got between 71 and 74 points, so we still have a mountain to climb with a target of 1.71 to 1.85 points per game in our remaining matches. But it is achievable. Wins will be better than draws, especially against our play-off rivals. |
