Yes, but how many strikers would play the ball behind when in on goal.
I could just be biased as I'm a massive Freddie fan. But apart from Henry in the invincibles I'm struggling to think of a striker that would play the ball behind in such a situation.
If he had done, and that player missed, everyone would be saying as a striker you have to be selfish and shoot. |

Pretty much everyone agrees that Clarke is better than Donacien.
But to say that Donacien hinders our build up play ignores the evidence of the last half of two seasons ago and the first half of last season. When Donacien is fully fit he is more than happy to bomb on. As shown in eg the second home game of last season against MK Dons. |

I was in NIgeria when Portsmouth played Man Utd in Nigeria after Pompey won the FA cup. All the Nigerian staff were in awe of Kanu and wanted phoyts with him, so you had Englad players Crouch, Glen Johnson, Jermaine Defoe all being pestered to take photos of the staff with Kanu.
Meanwhile I was busy getting the Hermanator to sign my old Greene King away shirt :) |
