Garbutt Out for a Month
at 22:16:48

Nice to see a bit of class and good humour in the give and take on here rather than the usual downers. And on the point praps ME should get in Gwyneth Paltrow with a bit of GOOP in the treatment room. Or maybe some colonic irrigation - but not the sort I had when Chambers had the ball taken off round the other side of his ankles last Saturday.

Eric Gates and the Great Escape

Yes little Oric was one of the greats but sadly his brother Baldric never got beyond Jarrow reserves. The real story though is brother Bill who, Elephant must have forgotten, went from being sturdy unsung Middlesborough number 5 to founding Microsoft and becoming one of the richest men on the planet. Funny old game!

Reasons for Relegation
at 23:20:15

I was not the greatest fan of McCarthy but it must be remembered that he came in when we were rock bottom and did wonders and for quite a few years Town supporters fully appreciated his dry wit and honesty. Did we hate him when we stuffed our recent opponents Brentford 4-2 in London? The moment he told Town supporters where to go was i'm sure a product of stress and disappointment. Sometimes only honest people have the guts to say what's on their minds. I have been a Town supporter since 1961 but some of the hate filled vitriol online makes me ashamed to be a Town fan, along with the slagging off of decent footballers who have disappointed for some reason or other. "F**k off is an honest response to some of the nasty stuff on here that is posted by people who haven't the guts to use their real names. (Ps this is mine - go figure)Football is tragic, it has terrible disappointments. McCarthy for all his dour back to the wall stuff in recent times was only reflecting his opinion of the talent he was working with. He didn't quit. and he has also behaved decently since. He was better than every Manager we had since Burley. Look to the owner of this club and start getting interested in how he goes about the business and look where all those sales were spent. Tyrone Mings? Could have bought most of this lot!!!

Ipswich Town 1-1 Norwich City - Match Report
at 20:19:59

Enjoyed the game and the atmosphere and feel we have enough players to gel into a good team now we have a more gung-ho and courageous manager. We need to settle down in midfield a bit and have a plan when Edwards is double marked. Sides that do that are going to be vulnerable one way or another. Impressed by JW's fitness and Pennington's cool. We bloody well must stop moaning. Norwich actually are not a VERY BAD team and judging Town that way is stupid,. Budgies will nowhere near be relegated IMHO. If we play like that without a win, we'll play a lot better with a couple under our belts. Try Harrison off Walters next. He hasn't had a lot of luck so far. Bring on Jackson as an impact player later on.

Nsiala's Red Card Appeal Rejected

Monarch. And your reason is? Hurst showed both solidarity with player and fans. See above. Fans like me. If you have kicked the ball cleanly THERE IS NO WAY YOU CAN THEN GO ON AND FOUL A PLAYER THAT FAR AWAY, studs up or not. Look at the opposition player telling the ref to look as Forest Gump fell over. Biddable ref. This is the worst decision I've seen against a Town player for decades. All you with Twitter, post a clip and get Sky involved. They like a good controversy.

Town sign ex Norwich striker. Doesn't do well. Many expletives, told you sos, should never have happened etc. Town sign ex Norwich striker, scores winning goal against them. Best and most courageous decision ever. ZZZZZ (contd. P 94)

Shrews Pair at Town to Complete Move
at 20:26:23

We may not have played well under Mick but I suspect he's a generous man and it showed on Sky.
Re Bowyer. Maybe criticising Oyston (saying "We know where that came from") may have had something to do with his dismissal. May be a negative for signing Tilt.

TS Eliot and the Football Waste Land

Monty, you just made my day.
But as another poet said - "I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot; Follow your spirit: and upon this charge,
Cry — God for (insert name here), Ipswich and Saint Marcus!"

An Uncomfortable Truth
at 22:12:26

This is a really interesting "conspiracy theory" and like many, a lot of the facts seem to fit and some may even be true. It is also good to have a grown up conversationon here. But reality never quite matches up to conspiracy. Over the last few years i see a gradual but significant improvement in the talent coming up, in the quality of signings and in sensible management. There is a huge element of luck in why an underfunded team "clicks" and goes on a run that will beat the odds. I don't think ME has the funds to match Wolves whatever the business savvy are saying. McCarthy is a frustrating, cautious, canny old bird but I wouldn't write him off - for a while in Daryl M's golden season we looked real promotion material and to my mind it was screwed by one of McGoldrick's many injuries and momentum was lost, never to be recovered. There is no reason in the world to my mind why ME would want us to jog along in mid table, partly because he couldn't guarantee it.

I am sick of this "undercover budgie stuff" - if you're not Norwich supporters and I have no way of knowing - you better get wise because Budgie supporters must be laughing. They didn't even need to invent you. Enough already. Real supporters just yawn and move ON!! COYB

McCarthy Excited By Youngsters' Progress
at 21:10:02

Reading between the lines, Downes seems to be the one Mick is really excited about and with good reason. We have not had that kind of player (a Matty Holland, maybe) coming through the system. Let him play, as Mick says, and see how he does. He scores goals too, but obviously not had enough of a a chance on the big occasions, but the shot against Luton gives an idea. I like skillful players but sometimes it's something more that makes the greats - determination, engine, taking it away from the opposition so they get demoralised. (Brian Talbot too!) Early days ...
