So you agree with me, finance things like interest rates affect house prices, not immigrants.

And you have gone back to taking about immigration again instead of population size.
You are correct, I am not going to agree that framing the argument in terms of look it’s 1 person in a 100 causing the issue or 1 person in 150 people that is causes the issue. That one person isn’t the issue.

Explain to me this, there are 50 people currently living and working in Turkey, they have absolutely zero influence on a local council building a new house or a government creating a new garden city, or that Barrett Developments are going start building X houses in Shropshire. They live in Turkey.

So if they move to the U.K. in 2028, boo, immigrants we shouldn’t have let them in.
Absolute nonsense. How are they at fault.

Okay let’s do the Lowhouse/Farage thing. You people in Turkey, don’t even think about.

Barrett Developments, thanks Lowhouse, we will build more houses now, we weren’t going to but now we are. Because you have 1 immigrant per 150 instead of 1 immigrant per 100.

I don’t think building companies think like that.

If a person can’t get a house, I don’t think you should get angry at the people currently in a house.

Or are going back to old school Tory excuses, darn young women getting knocked up just because they want a council house, let’s blame teenagers.

By the way, Farage when put under any sort of pressure, is against controlling the numbers of people. He just says the things you are saying to get people angry, then quietly when questioned will say, yes of course we should allow people in to support industry as needed.

If people feel angry, you should tell them to be angry at the people that govern the 100, not blame the 1 new guy.

Are there 2.5 million people walking around the streets?
No.

Have house prices risen faster than wages consistently before the last four years?
Yes.

Av House prices Q4 2022: 265,195 Q2 2024: 265,012, so house prices dropped during some of the period of time you are concerned about.

Is there a correlation between immigration and wage/house price/disparity?

Is there a correlation between immigration, and how many house can be built by local/central/private?

As you said long standing problem in the U.K. Not related to immigration.

One thing that has increased, is people with second un-occupied homes.

You are using a long term economic problem, as does Farage and co, to point at the immigrant as the issue. You are pointing at the 1 person in a 100.

Woe is me, how are we supposed to do X, when there are immigrants.

Okay, so you are now agreeing, the correct metric to look at is population growth.

Not an inflated figure, to imply population growth larger than it is.

Why use a particular stat, like OMG 3 Million immigrants, in a short period of time.

Why not, over the last 20 years, population has increased by 8.6 Million.

Or why not use a small accurate number.

Population growth over last 20 years has roughly been at 0.67%

At the moment, it as at about 1%

Yep, look around, for every 100 people you can see today, next year you will see a staggering, 101.

Yep let’s blame that additional 1% for all the countries wows. And conflate that with “illegal” migrants, the majority of which are refugees.

Yep, you carry on pandering to Farage.

How is it going with Benters, is he wavering yet?

So you haven’t taken births and deaths into consideration.

That number is relatively consistent.

Population growth over last 10 years has been about 3 million.

Why are you pandering to Farage at Al, and exaggerating the population growth.

Those are ONS stats, which include immigration, take it up with them if you don’t like how they do it.

Mid-year population estimates relate to the usually resident population. They account for long-term international migrants (people who change their country of usual residence for a period of 12 months or more) but do not account for short-term migrants (people who come to or leave the country for a period of less than 12 months). This approach is consistent with the standard UN definition for population estimates which is based upon the concept of usual residence and includes people who reside, or intend to reside, in the country for at least twelve months, whatever their nationality.

If you want to know how to fit people into houses, and estimate the load on government services it is population growth that is important.

That number is less than Net migration which you keep using as an alarmist number.

2022 68,350,000 +559,000 0.82%
2023 68,300,000 -50,000 -0.07%
2024 67,961,439 -338,561 -0.50%
2025 68,180,606 +219,167 0.32%

Increase between 2021 and 2025.

I get the point of what lowhouse is trying but is just playing a definition game.

Sure, it is easy, if being accused of being a fascist, to deflect and make the person saying that seem reactionary, extremist and silly. And play into the person being accused.

But here’s a thing, Hitler was religious, his views changed, but he had religious views. He was intolerant of other religions, and promoted a view. Nazi’s started influencing young people in the 1920s. In the 1920’s were they promoting a world view that suggest Jews should be put into concentration camps, and Germany should go to war, or were the promoting an Aryan vision, a make Germany great agin, you may say.
Was Hitler misunderstood, was he just very religious and socially conservative for a while, you know, before he was elected, and then turned Fascist.

As an aside. Someone debating from the starting point of “Prove me wrong” isn’t debating.

Sure the US is a democracy. But let’s consider, Project 2025…which: calls for the replacement of merit-based federal civil service workers by people loyal to Trump and for taking partisan control of key government agencies, including the Department of Justice, FBI. And the purpose of Project 2025…"building a governing agenda, not just for next January but long into the future"

Now Charlie Kirk, didn’t think laws for civil rights is good, he didn’t like feminism and thought women should be house wife’s, he didn’t like LGBTQ+ rights, talked about Gods perfect Law in stoning homosexuals, and wasn’t keen on immigrants. And he was part of Project 2025.

So let’s consider this, we have a group of people, that want to ensure they stay in power, they demonise other political parties, they don’t like gay people, they don’t like other religions, they don’t like civil rights legislation, they don’t like immigrants, they want to take over the courts and law enforcement, and they are quite happy to deploy the military, and are religious fundamentalists…..sure what could possible go wrong, but let’s not call that Fascism, or more importantly people that want and advocate for that outcome, lest not call them Fascists…..wait until they start doing more of that sort of thing, so let’s give another 10 years….

Luckily in the past when Mosley was trying to get started with his Fascist party, war with Germany broke out.

With Elon Musk et al, funding and trying to influence the U.K. i.e calling for the dissolution of Parliament, we of course should not be concerned in anyway…let’s worry about the precise definition of what we are seeing.

Lowhouse, good job, you are very good at talking to people who are concerned about what is happening about what word to use.

Well done you.

By the way, would you describe a fundamental religious organisation that wants to maintain power, Fascist, or just you know, a bit right?

What is the correct word to describe what Project 2025 want to achieve?

Personally I think you should be turning that intellect into something productive.

Your task is still, to convince Benters to not vote for Farage and his party.

If you can do that, I make you right.

How is it going so far?

To add to that, although the Rwanda scheme is now being touted by Tories as a brilliant scheme, if only it hadn’t been cancelled, they keep forgetting to mention that it was only scaled for 200 asylum seekers, whilst the backlog was about 160k. I wish media interviewers remembered that.

The assumption is there is only open borders or closed borders., is wrong.

The current refuge convention hasn’t led to open borders. Dubai doesn’t have a scheme for people from Ukraine.

It is quite feasible for counties to extend the refugee convention, to encompass other circumstances, and not lead to open borders, just as is the case today.

Just as WW2 lead to compassion by nations about humans displaced by wars, and evil dictators trying to exterminate people within their national borders, which didn’t lead to open borders, we can be equally compassionate about humans in parts of the World persistently effected by climate induced distress and hunger, i.e. in poverty. Or why not disastrous economic collapse.

The people that started the original convention, didn’t check for the majority opinion in a single country.

My views on how humans should strive to treat each other isn’t informed by a majority view of an arbitrary group of humans.

Strawman Farage argument.

Point out where I attacked people for being racist/bigoted/xenophopic?

The only people I have directly called racist on this forum, as an example, have been removed.

Once you have apologised for trying to imply what I may do, we might continue.

I am not really bothered by what the vast majority of U.K. voters may think.

If I wanted to say, “I favour open borders….etc”. What I would say is “I favour open borders….etc”.

Nowhere did I say something like, I would be happy for all people living in Dubai to move to Turkey. That would be an example of Open Borders and me not caring who moves where.

Versus

Oh hello, oh you’re from Niger and or Haiti, yea I heard it’s quite warm/wet/earthquaky this time of year, hungry, and in poverty, yea, go back home.

Not really.

We take in people from the Ukraine, many will go back if things are safe.

If there is mass poverty and starvation in a country, what are you going to do?

Say, sorry, rules is rules, you are not a refugee, back to that country that has just had floods and has not much food, but yeah, next time stay put, and don’t wonder over here.

Yes that is an extreme. But taking a black and white definition is extreme.

In some circumstances, yes, FFS, just help other humans,

Every one banging on about the Refugee convention not being fit for the modern world, cause it was drawn up after the WW2, are bang on.

It should be extend to accept natural disasters and the changes in climate that will have effects on fellow humans, that other humans should help out with.

And if you have F’ed up regimes that totally screw up an economy and populations suffer, yep, help the ones that can get out.

If you need to know who Farage represents, you know the MP of Clacton-on-Sea in Essex.

When in front of the US hearings and world press, did he have an Essex Flag pin, an English Flag, or a Union Jack.

Correct none of the above. He had a GB News pin.

“ The 1951 Refugee Convention defines a refugee as a person who is outside their country of nationality and unable or unwilling to return due to a well-founded fear of persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group.”

If there is a sectarian war inside a country, and many current wars are internal or sectarian in nature, e.g. Myanmar, Syria, and South Sudan, then they would be refugees. Russia invading Ukraine is not the norm, at the moment.

If you have a human not currently in their country of birth, and to return them to it would put them in dire poverty, seems somewhat cruel in some circumstances to return them. Clearly there would be circumstances you wouldn’t return a person with very little, to a place they will have even less.
