Me as an old defender myself thought he was outstanding and proactive in handling the little things so calmly. The things that mount up to dangerous situations if not handled correctly.
He made all that look so easy, calm and composed.
Even though our defence is much better than it was a year ago, it is still wobbly in periods in games. There are a lot of things that all our other defenders need to learn from him.
He should start in the league once fully fit in my opinion. |

Im usually one of his worst critics but tonight he looked solid for 85% of the game and grew into it more and more.

More organized already at the back. Didnt really got bothered by them.
Still lots of stuff to work on obviously both defensively and up the pitch. But you could see glimpses of what we are trying to do differently.
Just need to continue working on it every day in the training ground. |

These players needs confidence, a modern game plan and clear instructions for their roles.
Dont know what Cooks plan was to be honest.

To believe people on here in pre season saying the defence wouldnt be a problem this year and defending nsiala. Christ…

A couple of defenders short and som depth in CM and we are home. And some more time for the team to gel of course.
Evans is class. Harper as well. Exactly what we have been missing.
Kvy and burns will create loads of assists. |

I know it is pre season and we are playing a strong premier league side which we wont be playing regurarly..
But we were ripped apart though a couple of times last year, by teams just putting pressure on our defense. At the moment we cant handle that and immediately lose our positioning. Then we get shaky and start giving the ball away. This game started the same, with the same defense as last year (focusing on cbs) regardless of the opposition. Thats what caused my worry.
We handled it a bit better in the second half, just dont feel confident at the back with toto and wolfy. |

But we cant be this open defensively if we want to get out of this division. We have gifted numerous clear chances that easily could have been goals with a bit of better aim from palace. It looked exactly the same last year but against league one sides.
I mean that we are error prone and often out of our shape. That needs to be adressed. Dont care what the stats from last year says. [Post edited 24 Jul 2021 15:49]
