Any TWTDs interested in ancestry DNA researching and results?
at 01:38 27 Jul 2025

OK, short story about my reasons for asking as I'm a Dual national British/American due to my father being in the US Air force based in Suffolk 1950s. I Joined and summited samples to all the ancestry sites which gave me info on close cousins on both sides of the pond. Now living in USA, Florida through all the available ancestry sites, I've discovered my American born fathers lineage goes back to mid 1700s Virginia where the revolution (obviously Boston as well} got underway. Confirmed beyond doubt as I now have a certificate to confirm my American ancestor fought against the British!
Where I would like help is to find out names and ranks of the British troops who fought in the conflict to see if I have anyone in my mothers maternal lineage involved.
I'm surprised how easy it's been to discover my American lineage compared to my British....why should that be??

One of my first ever visits to Portman Road was sitting in the 'Chicken Run'. A family friend took me along as her husband could not make it. It was the FA cup game against Soke City with Stanley Matthews playing. I think that was the season after Town were crowned champions so 62/63 season. uncanny, as my last visits to the stadium, back in 02/03 were more or less in the same spot up in the Cobbold stand 40 years on!!

Truely hope you all enjoy the event at PR and there's many more nights to come. I'll be tuning in mid afternoon from sunny Florida!

Well, in my opinion apart from one lady who is a staunch Democrat, I haven't noticed one shred of despair. in fact, the complete opposite and that includes the many resident Brits I'm in contact with. Everyone seems very upbeat with the way things are going.

That's how I obtained 'dual' citizenship with my father being in the US air force Bentwaters and me being born in the UK. No visas ever needed for either country, just flash the passports.

I've recently declined a ticket for the Manchester City v Juventus in Orlando. A friend's brother who is a season ticket holder at the Etihad is flying over and will be there for the second year in a row. I went with the family last year for the City v Barcelona pre-season friendly which cost me $100 (less than the actual ticket price) but will not 'justify' it for another !!

Forest v Town FA Cup 1981
at 01:37 13 Feb 2025

I wasn't there, but still have a vivid memory from that day, even being thousands of miles away, working construction in Jeddah Saudi Arabia. I'd bought one of those new boom boxes and had it with me that day so I could tune into BBC sports world service coverage.
My memory tells me after end of day, on site canteen dinner had finished and i was back at work on overtime with my Philipino helper when our 3rd goal, equalizer was scored on a crackly coverage (if anyone remembers those days!) and I lapped around the unit we were plastering. I'm convinced from that day, I converted him into being a Town fan. Can't remember if I found coverage of the replay but that 3 all draw has stuck in my memory for ever!

Anyone on here go to Barcelona 3-0 Ipswich in December 1977?
at 00:42 6 Dec 2024

Same thing happened with the group I went with to the 75 cup game in Brugge, although no 'rucking'(we had been drinking all night and day so a little boisturous) , Police wagons stopped and loaded 20(?) of us Town fans in and kept us detained until the game ended. No charges and the Police drove us all back to the stadium as the game ended. I remember the officers singing football songs and finding out Town had lost on the night 4-0 after winning the first leg 3-0 at Portman Rd. Apologies for highjacking but I'd never heard of Town fans being detained before a European game back in the 70s!

London Stadium (WHU) - some observations
at 23:20 22 Sep 2024

Very much in agreement, although I've not visited (and never will!) their new stadium, Upton Park was something else, especially under the floodlights. I'm lucky enough to remember a couple of visits in the 60s, both non Town games, but one was the last game of the 67 season when Man Utd won 6-1 to clinch the old 1st division and what a distant memory that is!!

Man City away memories….
at 00:49 24 Aug 2024

My first and only visit to Maine Road as a very young teenager. probably my first ever away game following Town, although I'd had a treat to a West Ham v Chelsea the year prior. Went on a coach from Woodbridge with a 'new' step grandfather and still remember so much about that day.
Pissed down all day, coach parked in the city and a walk to the Maine Road. Hundreds of Town fans in the side stand and i'm in line with us hitting the underside of the bar and in late on to win it, unless my memories wrong. I'm sitting around the pitch for the replay as I was mad keen on collecting autographs and the stadium filled so quick

I guess you've found somewhere to watch the game tomorrow? If you're in the city, then the Harp & Celt pub on Magnolia Ave is a great place for the Premier League, especially Liverpool as they seem to have a large gathering for their games

Yes, USA channel for me. I'm watching the Utd v Fulham game on it now and it was mentioned Towns game tomorrow.
Hey, perhaps all 'us' Florida fans can arrange a one game meet up this season.

If he's able to run come November, in my opinion I think he will win. I try to stay out of any political debates/discussions, but very much a divided country at the moment and just like what I read about the UK, illegal migration is very much at the top of the agenda!

Does anybody know where and when this photograph was taken?
at 22:12 30 Jan 2024

As I mentioned in my post, that my memory of Feyenoord 75 was a brutal night rain wise , and back then i'm thinking most of the stadium was without cover. So, could. that photo be from the next leg game in Brugge?.
