I know it's not popular... but I thought he was a bit of a show pony. Good player, who looked very classy in patches, but, ultimately, never stamped his authority on the game and end result ... just 1 goal ( very good one, admittedly). Need a younger version of Morsy. And one who can play 90+ minutes X 46. Good luck to Cajuste.... but don't think he's Championship stuff. |

"Morsy + one of Jack Taylor, Humphreys or Ben Johnson is still a very good midfield" Really? Morsy's the best of that lot... but he's 34. How much is left in the tank? Taylor hasn't even proven himself in the Championship yet and I think more of a lower end Championship midfielder.... Humphreys is still developing and we don't know how good he is at this level... BJ... what is he? RB, RW, wing back.... and now CM? Can't really add him to the list. Agreed we need 2 proper signings at CM.... but currently I think we have a worryingly weak CM. We need to bring in 2 top class midfielders who are likely to start. |

Haven't seen Woolfy proposed as a CM for a while. Like an advanced Beckenbauer. Worth a shot if OShea is keeping him out of the line up. |

Nothing against Downes, but why are we making out he was pushed out of the door. I don't feel Downes has any real deep affinity to the club. He wanted to leave a year before when he was playing his best football for us and Palace came calling.... and we should have parted company then. He was ambitious and wanted to get away to further his career... and I don't hold grudges for that. His true football love is West Ham and I would say he'd probably prefer to hook up again with Martin at Rangers than us. If he hadn't had the academy connection with us..... no-one would be that fussed. [Post edited 4 Jul 11:54]

I'm at the stage where I think this is a bit of a light-hearted wind-up.... so I'm just joining in...not thinking imminent move, too. For now. |

He already has in his silence. If there was nothing in it ... easy to say so. But nothing. Doesn't want to put a spanner in last minute contract negotiations. Take it that he was here..... or maybe Ryan Carr doesn’t just look like Brandon Williams, but Downes, too. |

Things can accelerate pretty quickly. Remember not too long ago a triple signing coming out of the blue.... Ollie Hawkins, Stephen Ward and Dai Cornell. Could be the same happening at any time. Hope that allays any fears. |

Can I be honest..... the vast majority of footballers don't have much of interest to say anyway.... and if they did, they'd get in trouble quickly with the authorities and the club. It's this continuous drive to push things further when it's not necessary. I'm truly getting fed up with football. Love it if a p1ssed off substituted player unleashed an an F-bomb and called the gaffer a w@nker... but it won't happen. [Post edited 27 Jun 17:47]

Wouldn't go as far as that, but I never felt he had the same affinity for the club like others. Think he took short term deals because it suited him.... and now he's an attractive proposition as a free- signing. He played it well. Did 2 years for us and was a good player ( when fit) so I'm not bitter. Plenty of players who've passed through our doors who were a waste of space. |

Got the impression he was offered a contract, but decided to leave his options open. It's not all on us... the player has to want to play for us. He knew his worth and didn't commit to any kind of sentiment towards us. Why are we thinking we let someone slip through are fingers? Axel knew what he was doing. |

Opportunity for Harry Clarke then.... who I'm not totally sure about, but he should be Championship-primed by now in terms of having plenty of Championship games under his belt as a young player... and, I think, time to step up.. or get out. |

Just glad this is sorted early on. I've never really felt Axel was truly a Town player. A couple of short-term deals where he helped us out and we helped him out. Wouldn't go as far as calling him a mercenary, but i think he's the type who'll roll from club to club... and spend a fair bit of time on the injury list. Had a touch of class who did a good job for us, but one who I never really trusted to be around too long and, personally.... don't give a flying one. |

We get 35 million, a decent profit on one year.. and we re-invest and hopefully we recruit well. Isn't it what we should be doing to push ourselves forward a step at a time? If we get stand-out players- they'll be off. Pity that we lose our best players, but we've been in a position not long ago where no-one wanted our players ( because they weren't very good). |

Very quiet means Ashton has got leaks blocked and security is as tight as a drum whilst the recruitment data mainframe is churning out player after player looking for The One. Quiet means we are going big. Expect a marquee signing this week. |
