I have said, I think on here, but at the very least to any friends or family that put up with my ramblings, that I feel that Hirst is an underrated player. If we can actually get something close to a full season out of him, he will comfortably get around 20 goals.
Doesn’t play at all now. But he is very skilful. And he’s bloody annoying: he’ll go in the garden with shed shoes on or barefoot, and he still just juggles the ball without any problem!
My son did 1,000 during a bored moment during Covid…just because he could. He would have gone on, but was getting more bored. Definitely doesn’t get his skills off me.
What a great day yesterday! This really is an amazing little festival. Always come away needing to listen to some newly discovered bands. For me, loved Ellis D, wh lung, adwaith, and how I’ve never even heard of another taste before is beyond me! What a joyous, 80’s funk inspired set! Everyone dancing! They looked like they were having as much fun as us! Well done to all the organisers and volunteers. Very well run. Can’t wait for next year!
Don’t agree with much of this. To Joe Public, that would be the prevailing view. But within the world of elite football, he is very highly regarded. Those within the game know last season was not predominantly about him, but predominantly about where we came from and the giant, virtually impossible, leap we had to make. No doubt he’s taken a bit of a hit, so probably club owners will be nervous of their fans reaction in appointing a relegated manager. I would not be at all surprised if he is not our manager come the start of the season. Hope he stays though. He’s an amazing talent.
To challenge this, I would say that our defence during the promotion seasons was built on a back 4, albeit a back 4 very much with licence for the full backs to get forward, especially leif. Unless there were injuries, we regularly turned out with Davis, burgess, Woolfy and Clarke/Tuenzebe across the back. Last season was very much a back 3 (or 5 depending on how you want to look at it). Will he revert to the four next season?
Whilst there is no doubt that the PL is more intense, I am a bit surprised that that isn’t balanced out by quite a lot fewer games. The Championship does seem relentless on that front.
And that one made me sad, in a happy way! Genuinely got a bit choked. I couldn’t wait for this horrible season to be over, but the link above reminded me how wonderful the season before was. Southampton at home and chappers run across the pitch, cov away, Mass’s winner v Blackburn, “that” first half of virtually perfect football v Hull at home, Leif’s last minute winner v Bristol at home (if you think Ipswich Towns promotion race is going to wither away, think again!), spanking Sheffield W for 6, Harness’s 2 late goals away at Brum, that beautiful day in the sunshine at home to Huddersfield…….we lost 6 games ALL SEASON!! Such a happy, happy time. I get all the clamber to be in the Prem, but it hasn’t half sucked the fun out of the our recent successes!
On reflection, one slight relief from this painful season has been I’ve been able to shake superstitions. I usually go through a thing of “these are the clothes I wore and we won, so I have to wear them again” or parking in a certain place, or my son wearing one of his town tops, or the route I drive to the game. None of it has fvckin worked this year!!! So I’ve been released from it a bit, as I should do being a56 yr old “adult”……..until next season and we win 2 games on the bounce when I am wearing a certain coat….
Completely correct. They do believe in something: themselves and their own interests, through power, money and influence. They don’t give a flying fvck about the likes of you and me.
This is a really interesting point. Having had a long discussion with a visiting American one evening a couple of months back, who holds a senior position at an insurance related company, so well educated and very well paid, it became apparent that what I thought would be a Trump bashing chat turned out to be nothing of the sort. His prevailing view was, everyone else has slowly allowed the country to deteriorate; jobs, pay, infrastructure, education, health care, just the general quality of life has gone backwards for most Americans. So why not Trump? How much worse can day to day life get? His view was that, he doesn’t like Trump on a personal level in any way, but who knows, maybe by tearing up the rule book, somethings might change for the better. He said that many Americans think politicians talk big, but nothing changes, whereas with Trump, things will change, some for the better, some worse, but it was time for change in his view. I was surprised, but started to understand a bit more about why Trump won so decisively
Mmmm….i thought the game largely passed him by. Guess he’s still not match fit and apparently he was ill before the game. Never the less, nowhere near MoM.
Everywhere, other than those “posh” areas, such as Kensington, Chelsea, predominantly west London. Some of the burbs were ok, parts of Enfield as an example. I don’t remember going anywhere else and thinking “this is posh”. It was predominantly rough. I’d say, in general terms, closer to the centre of London has got a bit better, outer London has got a bit worse. Maybe that’s too generalised.
