The state pension will rise by 4.7% next year.
at 14:57 17 Sep 2025

It was put in place back on 2010 as the state pension was then being left behind by the rising cost of living. Whether it's still valid in today's world who knows.

Am interested in hearing about what your stock portfolio is invested in? I've got exposure to the majority of the sectors you state but am always keen to learn more.

I don't all the number but I know we are top heavy at the moment when it comes to an ageing population. You are spot on though you need people paying in to pay the retirees.

Just wait till they have to introduce universal basic income for everybody as the world shifts to a more automated society. It'll be fun trying to find that behemoth!

Another thought I had on the state pension was to effectively pay out people's pension or what they are currently entitled to and let them manage it themselves.

For example if you currently qualify for full state pension (12k per year) then the gov would give you say £250k which should buy an annuity for the same amount (obviously people have different rates due to health etc but as a ball park figure). You then get to invest that into a private pension and that's where the govt responsibilities for pension ends.

It's obviously not as black and white as that (would we see a reduction in NI?)

Interesting point on birth rates. Aren't we due for a correction in a few decades as we have a failing birth rate? The number of people we provide pension for now should fall in a few decades?

Don't quote me but I do believe that's the general rule. Some offenses do get longer but the police can't sit on it for ages and then decide. Am pretty sure speeding is tickets have the 14 day rule, but I don't know every offence

Rant away.

I have always felt that when you starting paying into the system, that's when your 'contract' with the government on retirement should be fixed. So when I started it was retiring at 65 and so that should be when I am eligible for my state pension. Those who start today will eligible at 67. It seems like a fairer way maybe harder to administer) than the goalposts moving

I am still a few years away from retirement but I have based a lot of my projections on getting full state pension at the right age (68 now). Should any government bring in means testing at this late stage then that would be incredibly unfair. I've put some money aside for retirement, and as I have private pensions I'd imagine I would be excluded from any state pension but it would really rock my retirement if that's the case. I just wouldn't have time to make up the missing 12k a year

I have never really understood why some presenters feel the need to balance out conversations when it's blooming clear what's going on. Just say what's really happening and maybe things would start to change rather than pandering

If there is an accident involved (which there was in this case) then the notice can arrive after 14 days and be valid. Your family member has 28 days to respond I believe.

As for outcome,.no idea. Depends on many factors, not sure how much info they got on the notice?

When reading that sentence, I honestly thought you were going to finish by saying "I'd definitely hold my nose and vote for the nazi party"

Anything or anybody who dares to criticise Israel is immediately labelled antisemitic. Its happened on this forum many times but recently those posters have stopped popping up. Maybe even they have realised that Israel are in the wrong here?

Problem with tactical voting is what do you do if you dont want any of them in?

Generally don't know. I was raised to always vote, ensure that your voice is heard and I have in every general and by election. Until now. I struggled last election, and now I feel like I am struggling more.

I would have to wait to see each parties manifestos but at this point in time, I can see myself not voting

I saw that post earlier and all the comments that went with it. They are clearly close, I remember when Town TV followed him and Slicks around for the day it showed just how good mates they are.

Maybe he is gay/bi, maybe his girlfriend is a front? I don't really care in this era. The definition of masculinity now is different to my parents time, likewise it was different to their parents time.

Let people just fooking live their lives

I was once invited into the Town Boardroom during a Town game many moons ago, but they never offered me the managers job.

Admittedly I was only about 12 at the time

I am with you on this to a degree. He's not been there a year, he inherited some pretty shocking players who were overpaid and bought at inflated prices. For the first time in how many managers United actually paid for his release rather than going for an out of work manager. He should in theory get a couple of seasons to stamp his mark on the team and squad.

Having said all that, I will say that the powers that be at united probably thought that he would be have got more out of the players there. Finishing without Europe is a real wake up call for them, and pressure will soon mount.

Id imagine a mid table finish will be enough to see progress and allow him another season

Not sure really he has scored a few. Wasn't Macauley Bonne and James Norwood the same? Sam Parkin another? I .not convinced despite Kone good start

Does he fit the profile and the style of our team? Just because somebody is banging in goals in a one man team doesn't mean they would do it in a more all round team.
