Derby full back was the same a couple of weeks ago although he did get pulled up once by the referee for a foul throw.
Is there any footage of the Tangana attempted throw? It was quite hilarious! |

Even further back in the early 70's you could queue up and go into which stand you wanted. I remember London away games at several clubs where I stood in the home end with a family who used to take me on the supporters bus. Even on the North Bank at Highbury. Perhaps we were mad or naive, but there was friendly banter and no trouble. Sounds crazy now, but true. |

I'm old enough to remember that question being asked when Trevor Francis became the first player to be bought for £1million. That was in 1979 and the bubble is still growing! |

I was only a young teenager in the early 70's and hated to hear town fans singing "I.R.A. Ipswich Republican Army" It was utterly inappropriate and insensitive back then with all the troubles in Northern Ireland and pub bombings in England.
Whoever thought that was a good idea? |

Your memory is failing you my old mate!
According to the Pride of Anglia website, it wasn't 1970-1 as Dougan didn't play.
It wasn't 1971-72 as although Dougan & Wagstaffe played for Wolves, Laurie Sivell was in goal for Town.
It was either 21 Apr 1973 Ipswich 2 (Morris, Whymark) Wolves 1 (Richards) or the next season - 27 Oct 1973 Ipswich 2 (Morris, Hamilton), Wolves 0
Those are the only games I can see where Best, Dougan & Wagstaffe all played.
So whichever it was, you started with a win! |

Liverpool - Clemence, Lawler, Yeats, Smith, Lloyd, Hughes, Hall, Lindsay, Heighway, McLaughlin, Thompson. Sub St. John
Mick Hill scored the winner for Ipswich. I still have the match programme.
I was 12 and went with my mate and his dad. Couldn't really ask for a better start than that and I was hooked! I only missed one home game in the next 12 years and that was when we played Birmingham on a weekday afternoon in 1973, due to not being able to use the floodlights during the miner's strike. I really don't get this "Woolfy has been treated badly, Broadhead has been treated badly, Burgess was treated badly..." nonsense.
Football today is a squad game and every week fourteen of that squad will not start a game. Are they all "treated badly"? The days when Sir Bobby only had 15 players to chose from (and then, if fit) are long gone.
As a home grown local lad, Woolfy has a place in our hearts, but I don't think he is guaranteed an automatic start at any Championship side. He will still be a squad player having to fight for his place.
The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence! |
