Depends what you mean about not being labelled “racist”, I think. If you look at that report, the whole thing is racist: the symbols on some of the flags and T-shirts, the language of “invasion”, the tropes of brown people raping “our” children, the placard picturing an alleged rapist. All this is the result of allowing the narrative pushed by Farage, Tommy Robinson et al to be given oxygen. An “honest” debate? Hopefully you mean something to counter this racism? |

I know there are a few on here getting all starry-eyed about the “legitimate” protests in Epping, which have spread to Diss. The BBC story quotes one of the Diss protest’s organisers: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cq68r9y1qdmo Glen Saffer was/is a member of the English Defence League. A simple Google search would have revealed this. I guess that’s beyond the capabilities of the BBC. The fact that the protestors are talking about “invasions” and warn of the dangers of brown-skinned people assaulting children is quite a big clue, but not enough for some. I mention it because we need to be aware of this fascist threat in our area. [Post edited 27 Jul 7:44]

Championship Manager memories there, then realised he’s only 35. |

Not to speak for Coach Rob, but MMT sort of argues that. Governments create money — it doesn’t represent an amount of gold in the bank of England or anything like that. I don’t really have a fully formed opinion on it as my economics knowledge is limited, but I do think that the household/don’t get into debt analogy and a simple tax in/spending out model is self-evidently not true, and only serves as an argument for never spending anything. Lab is following idiotic Tory debt ratio targets purely because it wants to seem “sensible”. Sometimes a lot of debt might be appropriate, if you’re needing to rebuild, for example. “Anything we can actually do we can afford” is a far better way to look at things. Of course, our capacity to do things has been limited by austerity. |

Well, I just don’t buy that x has to be cut in order to pay for y (I make no comment on the realism of the demand, but I back it 100%). This is austerity logic, and based on a profound misunderstanding of how government finances work. If your next question is “which taxes?”… start by aligning capital gains tax with income tax and increasing corporation tax on huge businesses. |

Sorry, automatic yellow card for “magic money tree”. I don’t make the rules, sorry. |

Well, you could make a snarky comment on a football message board, or you could join a union. Up to you. Good luck! |
 | Forum Reply | “Your party” by Corbyn x Sultana anyone going to vote for them? at 08:42 25 Jul 2025
Yes, I think that’s right. tbf to Corbyn, his aim was always to democratise and make Lab a more grassroots party, and that’s very much what the new party website is saying it will do. Always an irony in “Corbyn mania”. Obviously it’s become the exact opposite under Starmer. I just think his time has passed. I expect he probably feels the same way, hence the gap between ZS announcing the party and the launch yesterday. Still, perhaps having a very recognisable name fronting it will help. |

Dunno, TBH. I was more inclined to think a Green/Independent alliance might work just as well in terms of getting some seats — tailor the message to the seat, even though you probably share broad aims. This nearly got rid of Streeting last time round, and you could even see Starmer’s seat being in trouble. Instead, this might just take votes from each other. I have no idea whether it’ll capture people’s imaginations. I don’t see loads of Labour MPs defecting, although of course Starmer might keep on chucking people out. |
 | Forum Reply | London Standard say we're holding out for £40m at 15:06 16 Jul 2025
I think he was one of 3 stand out performers in a tough season, and his stats for keeping and running with the ball and delivering a telling pass are up with the best in Europe. He presses well, has good stamina and is tactically smart. He also had a good U21 Euros, I thought. Bargain at £35-40m IMO. |
 | Forum Reply | Brentford know what they're doing at 10:04 16 Jul 2025
Kind of what I’m thinking. It’s alright saying “Ashton can now ask for £300m” but not as simple as that if Omari wants it (not saying he does, but I think it’s fair enough if he wants some from of PL move). The clause just means we have to sell at £x. That’s gone, so Brentford can now bid £y. Also depends if there are a few teams in for him. If it’s just Brentford then they’re in a strong position. I could, of course, be completely wrong. |

That will happen when the Saudi state stumps up £1bn in prize money. |

England all the way. The WCC is an abomination that will eat all football should you not resist it. |
