We need to get things together quickly. You can't get automatic promotion after 10 games but you can put yourself out (or close to out) of the picture. |

Ange feels a strange appointment there from a personality fit as much as anything for me. Someone that won't toe the line and will say what he thinks and sees. Can see him falling out with Marinakis fairly quickly too. |

I wonder if he's sitting there now thinking he's made the wrong move? Maybe not for his bank balance but footballing wise. Early days I suppose but it's not good news he was left out of the Europa League squad and it's hard to see him getting a huge amount of minutes there this season regardless of the manager. |

I think that’s spot on. Although I’m not sure he will be able to do it as quickly or successfully as he would like. He could do with two weeks on the training pitch with them all now but we are going to have several away on international duty including McAteer, Egeli and Nunez that are three that probably need the most integration. |

I’ve not talked like that at all. It’s mental to me that all but Hirst, Davis, Burns and Harry Clarke are still here though from that whole promotion winning squad. And the latter two are only here because they are injured let’s be honest.
We also didn’t use Davis as an inverted full back last season. He has been our biggest attacking weapon for the last two seasons and the chances created numbers back that up.
I stand by my initial point. A huge amount of pressure is on for things to click fast if we want to get the top 2. Several players that came with big price tags but that have delivered little so far for me and have it all to prove in an ITFC shirt. The likes of Philogene, Clarke, Greaves need to start showing why we paid big money or we will look silly for not making the likes of Chaplin, Broadhead and Woolfy feel more valued. And even though I like our midfield 3 signings, we miss the intangibles Morsy brings already for me. |

What/who was successful in 23/24. Heart of the side ripped out. And then Davis asked to play as an inverted full back when he got 18 assists last time, in order to accommodate two wingers that have shown nothing so far.
Enormous pressure on these players to perform now and on McKenna to be proven right on decisions made this summer. |

Yes. All joking aside (and it is hilarious) he is also a fantastic signing. Half the price of Hackney too. £7.5m up front is a good deal for a 25 year old who has proven himself to be a great player at this level and has room for growth too. |

I hope we are in for him. Wolves were really keen on Ivanovic and looks like Strand Larsen will be off.

Moving Young across would totally alter the way we play. A left back in a similar style to Leif is surely a bigger priority than a RB. Unless Johnson is off. |

He played his whole youth career as a 9. Believe it was only his current club that recently converted him into a right sided player. |

You could always look it up. Burnley signed 7 players in the final few days of the window last season for example.
There isn't really much point comparing us to anyone else. Every club situation is unique. You can say we have the luxury of parachute payments but that doesn't mean a lot if you are competing with PL clubs or waiting on other clubs to make players available. |

What strikers have we been linked with this window? Early on it was Guiu and Mubama but there has been a real dearth recently, Azon aside. A couple of posts above suggesting terms of that deal could change but McKenna seemed pretty adamant he wouldn't be here this window. Feels like if we sign someone it is going to come from left field and be a name we haven't heard yet.
There have been loads of decent CMs linked but for varying reasons doesn't look like any of those (Hackney, Miley, Billing, Christie) are going to happen. I worry that whoever we end up is going to be big downgrade on any of those.
I'd like to think if we are willing to spend the best part of £20m on Egeli, we are confident we have good options lined up in both of the positions above though. As I'd argue they are bigger priorities right now. [Post edited 26 Aug 14:45]

He can't link play effectively but looks our biggest threat to me getting beyond Hirst. With Akpom seemingly being signed to play 10, I wonder if we are looking to play a second striker this season more than a link man. |

He was the Omari replacement so I'd like to think a deal was agreed before we let him leave. This is where the pressure comes from for me. I am very hopeful it gets done but the plan can't have been for us to waiting on him over 2 weeks after Omari left. |

I'm not sure he has got it wrong generally. In some ways, it should be easy to recruit as a parachute club but it must be so hard trying to navigate a transfer window when you want to recruit as a PL club in the Championship and you have various moving parts. I can't help but think he thought he had this deal closer to being over the line than it was when we sanctioned the Omari move though.
Feels like we have missed out on several ambitious targets and he needs to land this one given it seems Egeli is keen on the move. |
