Doubt it, was a pretty acrimonious departure from memory. |

Regardless of what happens in the West Brom and Norwich games, Hull are going to be throwing the kitchen sink at it anyway. Rosenior isn't going to suddenly change his game plan 3 hours before kick off. |

Well Davis has provided 17 (seventeen) assists this season. Most of these in really tight games we have won by a solitary goal. So I wouldn't take it for granted. Also don't take for granted the quality of a couple of the loanees we have that will go back at the end of the season. McKenna is also getting a lot more than the sum of its parts out of this team right now. It's hard for me to envisage us being on 89 points after 43 games again this time next season to be honest. |

It's not really any different now to how it was 24 years ago when we last got promoted is it? You've got a small group of 3/4 teams that are realistically going to win it barring a miracle. Over the last couple of seasons we've seen established forces like Man Utd and Chelsea being reeled in by the likes of Newcastle and Villa (two teams we played in the Championship not long ago). West Ham came down to the Championship relatively recently and won a European competition last season. We pulled a truly remarkable season out in 2000/01 but that wasn't remotely the norm. Man City and Bradford who we got promoted with both came straight back down with 34 and 26 points respectively. You've got about 12 teams that are probably a few bad decisions away from relegation but it's always been thus. And no team has a right to be able to compete in the PL season in, season out. |

Can add Wolves, Fulham and Bournemouth to that list too. If you get your recruitment right, have a decent manager and are a well run club then you have every chance. |
| Forum Reply | Do we want a Southampton win tomorrow now then? at 07:14 23 Apr 2024
True to a point but it goes without saying that you'd rather need 6 or 7 points than 9 points from 3 games. And them losing changes the pressure dynamic going into the Preston game, particularly if we beat Hull before they play that game. If Leicester win all their remaining games then we can't catch them so losing tonight is obviously the best outcome. [Post edited 23 Apr 7:21]

Boro absolutely played into Leeds hands last night. Too open and made it a basketball game with a team that simply have better players than them. Reminded me of our 2 games against them. There is a template for getting a result against Leeds that Huddersfield, Blackburn and Sunderland have used in recent weeks. QPR only need a point and haven't conceded many goals under Cifuentes. Hopefully they can get something. |

If we beat Hull and Coventry you can be certain they will quickly pivot to it being unfair, the EFL being corrupt and there being an agenda against Leeds. [Post edited 22 Apr 13:28]

Huddersfield will have been allocated nigh on 2,000. There's probably another 500-1000 of complimentary tickets (players, sponsors, mascots etc). Plus a few they can't sell due to policing/segregation. Anyone that has been to 5/22 (less than 25%) games is going to want to attend this one if they can. |

For me, tonight is the biggest game that impacts us (without us playing) in as long as I can remember. Had it earmarked for a while and whilst Leicester may have a honking end to the season, it's a shoot out between us and Leeds IMO. If they lose tonight, which feels very possible, 5 points is going to be enough for us. That's a huge pressure release going into two challenging away games. Leeds on the other hand would be under all sort of pressure going to QPR. [Post edited 22 Apr 8:51]

They should be absolutely shattered physically and mentally by the time we play them on the 30th. 120 mins in the legs today (heartbreaking loss) then they play again against Hull Wednesday and Blackburn on Saturday, after which they will most likely be out of the play off running. All whilst we’ve had two weeks off to rest and focus on these next two games, which I imagine McKenna has been preparing for as a double header. [Post edited 21 Apr 19:08]

| Forum Reply | We might just need to win all our games... at 20:59 16 Apr 2024
If they win all their games and Leicester win all theirs bar Southampton we will need 7 points, possibly 9 depending on GD. I find it mental people seem to want them to keep winning personally. If they win their next game and Leeds drop points, they are a bigger threat to us than Leeds! |

Personally I don't see it. I also think that this time next week, we could easily be seeing Southampton as a bigger threat to us than Leeds. |

I think you'd be mad to rest players for the play offs. There's a week between the end of the season and the play offs starting. You just want to end the season as strongly as possible and go into them with as much momentum/continuity as you can. Martin isn't going to suddenly give Armstrong, Downes, Adams, Harwood-Bellis etc a couple of games off. |

Do you really want them (and Leeds) still in the running on the final day of the season? If Southampton win all their games and Leicester win all theirs bar Southampton then we are going to need 7 points - assuming Southampton don't overtake our GD, in which case we would need all 9. They are still a threat (albeit slightly distant at present). I think the idea they are suddenly not going to bother trying once they are out of it a bit of a nonsense really. This is the team that edged past Watford at the weekend with a dubious late winner. Preston are a horrible side to play. I'm not in the camp of 'hope they win so they have something to play for against Leicester/Leeds'. We just need them killed off asap. They have motivation to end the season well to have momentum to take into the play offs anyway. |
| Forum Reply | Righto, I've done the Math at 15:11 15 Apr 2024
I'd take that. 2 points behind and 1 win against either Hull or Coventry puts the last day completely in our hands. |
| Forum Reply | Righto, I've done the Math at 15:02 15 Apr 2024
And they could well end up playing Leeds in the play offs too, so it's a chance to get in their heads with a win. So many variables as you say. As you can see, I'm not thinking about them at all! |
