It's pretty embarrassing that a lot of fans benchmark us against the play-offs rather than the top 2 though. I'm not someone that says 'we should be walking this league' but not competing for automatic promotion is an absolute failure at this level given the wealth of resources the manager has at his disposal. |
 | Forum Reply | Thomas is a good signing – if we take it in isolation at 15:54 19 Jan 2021
Edwards looks at his best on the left coming infield and Thomas looks best on right coming infield which probably means we will see them playing the opposite way around knowing Lambert. |
 | Forum Reply | Thomas and Harrop at 13:17 19 Jan 2021
No but you could play a more dynamic midfield 3 with Harrop at the point, Bishop and Downes have the legs to play box to box. |
 | Forum Reply | I do wonder if these two signings at 13:03 19 Jan 2021
I do think people would be a lot more positive about these two signings if we were playing well and sitting in the top 2. Objectively, they should be two top players at this level that really strengthen us for the run in. The issue is we still have an incompetent manager, huge overall negativity around the club and more questions than answers. [Post edited 19 Jan 13:04]

Apparently Harrop is coming here to play number 10, was pretty much a condition of the deal. I wouldn't be surprised if Dozzell ends up being the one making way as discussed in an thread earlier. [Post edited 19 Jan 12:59]

It's more whether we can or not within the scope of the rules. Andy Warren said we'd agreed to pay only £1k a week of Harrop's wages on the KOA podcast last week and then Preston reverted and wanted to re-negotiate. Paul Warne was saying the other day they want to get a couple out on loan but the club they are dealing with only has £500 p/w left in their salary cap budget. |
 | Forum Reply | Harrop and possibly Thomas at 08:40 19 Jan 2021
How much are they actually costing though? We were already at the limit of the salary cap wages wise so it'll be one in, one out in that regard - max of approx £2k p/w. It could be that we are paying chunky loan fees - the rules don't seem overly clear on what is allowed here. Lambert is going to have absolutely no excuses. He can't argue he hasn't had the tools. |

Evans, O'Neill and Lambert come out with statements and comments that would have been difficult to disprove many years ago (even though visually clear). But with the growing number of people outside clubs doing the sort of analysis you see here and with social media, it is simply so easy to quash it and make them look stupid. |
 | Forum Reply | Butcher and Dyer? at 15:37 18 Jan 2021
"has experience of playing with top clubs, managing clubs our size, has played as an international, has actually been promoted from this league" - are you talking about Lambert here? We need someone that can coach first and foremost. And someone that brings energy, fresh ideas and can man-manage. Whether that is Dyer I do not know but he's very highly regarded around the club. Clough is just another that has been around the block, is a bit dull and ultimately has a ceiling of managing mediocre-lower end Championship clubs. |
 | Forum Reply | Cinemas at 15:11 18 Jan 2021
I think the cinema industry was heading towards hard times before COVID so this could be the final nail. You've got to think that online streaming platforms like Netflix are going to be the way forwards with films going straight out into the comfort of people's own front rooms. |
 | Forum Reply | Josh Harrop - 25 years old - started 32 League games in his career at 11:37 18 Jan 2021
Certainly agree with that - although for me Donacien has never really let us down as such even if he is a clear downgrade on KVY. He can play both sides (better than Kenlock for me) but PL had made his mind up on him on day 1. Harrop has decent pedigree - he made 36 appearances and scored 8 goals in a decent Preston side that was pushing the top 6 in the Championship last year. If he's playing as he can then he improves what we have. IF is the big question though. |

Apparently we want a wide forward too. I don't think it is a particularly strange signing to be honest. We have 22 games in the next 8 weeks and the injury record of our creative, attacking players is sketchy to say the least. Obviously it doesn't resolve the issue that the bloke 'managing' is clueless. But he will have no excuses whatsoever (not that he did already) if he gets Harrop + another and we feck this up. |
 | Forum Reply | Last year it was postponing games...... at 09:51 15 Jan 2021
It was the same with O'Neill's interview last week. Talking about how it may affect players longer term, can they play professional sport for 90 minutes etc, rather than saying 'they've all trained well this week and are showing no ill effects, we can't wait to get going again'. PL talks about media negativity but there is a negative slant put on everything every time PL/LO'N/ME (rarely) open their mouths. It is a constant managing and downplaying of expectations, looking for excuses that may be needed at a later date. It's an attitude that permeates from the top right throughout the club and it has done for years. [Post edited 15 Jan 9:52]

 | Forum Reply | Evans backing question..... at 22:55 14 Jan 2021
Charlton and Sunderland have dropped fairly comparably to us. Then you have Portsmouth, Bolton and Wigan who are where they are due to utterly catastrophic ownership destroying them or complete financial ruin in Portsmouth's case. That's it though in terms of clubs that were ahead of us before ME coming in. So you have 2 roughly on par and three below us due to exceptional circumstances. [Post edited 14 Jan 23:00]

Would we be in a worse state though? Someone would have come in for us - it's not Evans or nothing. In the time he's been here the number of clubs that have flown past us is countless. Leicester have won the PL - from L1 Palace an established PL club Burnley - PL Brighton - PL from L1 Bournemouth - CH from L2 - few years in the Prem Brentford - CH play off contenders from L2 Huddersfield - CH from L1 - spent two years in the Prem Bristol City - solid CH side from L1 Luton - non league to CH Coventry - dropped down to L2 now back up to CH Wycombe - L2 to CH Rotherham - L2 to CH Lincoln - non league to above us in L1 Accrington - non league to above us in L1 How long before clubs like Fleetwood and Salford (that are upwardly mobile) are ahead of us? The above isn't down to money in a lot of circumstances either, just incompetence, no plan and running the club abysmally, including not putting the right infrastructure in place. And without being melodramatic, the club is in the worst state I've ever known it to be in so many areas - fan engagement being top of that list. [Post edited 14 Jan 22:56]
