Linkboy13 added 19:54 - Nov 2 Havn't seen any thing to convince me we can stay in this league. Morsy, Delap, Hutchinson and Davis all decent and have got the technical ability to retain possession of the ball for spells. To many of our players just haven't got it at Premier level. Didn't even realise Smzodic's was playing until he got taken off looks way off the pace. Burgess is only any good when the ball is in the air his distribution was woeful today. I think we underestimated the Premier league when we signed championship players for over inflated prices. AlanG296 added 20:01 - Nov 2 Maltster added 11:11 - Nov 3 I was most disappinted with Hirst. After the sending off he made no attempt to assist in the defense he simply wandered around near the centre spot not bothering to challenge their defenders when they had the ball. The only player who didn't give his all. We are having to accept poor referees who rely on VAR while the VAR man leaves most disputes to the ref ! Eeyore added 12:05 - Nov 3 Positives: another outstanding performance. Chaplin looked every bit a premier league player (apart from the finishing). Morsy must have broken PL passing stats records? Leicester couldn’t get near him (apart from when he ‘lost’ the ball that led to the goal). Phillips actually played very well (but not as well as he did at Brentford). Leif was good today and a great goal. If you can bear to watch the MOTD highlights then you will see that only Lineker thinks Chaplin wasn’t fouled. He also thought it was a “fairly even game”! Cooper thought his side “deserved to win”. One of the MOTD highlights was Leicester hitting a cross straight out of play, while many excellent passages of play from the more dominant team were left out (same story as MOTD ‘highlights’ last week). Not only does Ashton need to criticise the refs and VAR, he needs to have a serious word with MOTD for their anti-Ipswich bias so far this season. Some of the pundits such as Micah Richards do stick up for us but the highlight selection is a joke. In the build up to the goal, Morsy was clearly held back. He had been caught up by sub Soumare and sensibly was about to turn. His arm was held to stop him turning (and Morsy doesn’t just fall over). Fatawu’s foul on Clarke for our free kick should have been a yellow card - he just took him out as he was shaping to shoot. Same story with Fatawu on Chaplin. Two clear and obvious yellows. Mistakes? Taking Delap off. A rather pedestrian performance from Hirst, who didn’t really get stuck into the task of defending at all. Likewise with Burns. Shame we couldn’t have brought Woolfenden or Townsend on. If you look carefully at the build up to the Leicester goal, Burns needed to bring Soumare down and take a yellow. Justified as Soumare had fouled Morsy. Then watch the fresh legged Cajuste jogging back and just letting Ayew run into box unmarked (Cajuste will be in managers office on Monday morning). Perhaps Cajuste is still carrying an injury in which case Luongo needs to come in. Then O’Shea was not tight enough on Vardy to stop the one-two with Ayew. Their two subs beat ours. Unfortunately when you look at the casual defending in added time you have to conclude that players were guilty of dreaming about the final whistle and that perhaps Leicester earned the goal. However it should have been no more than a consolation if our finishing was better. Our centre halves must practice heading from our set pieces. They are all great in their own box but for some reason totally hopeless up the other end. The performances are there. If we play like this we should be ok. On the other hand I remember Norwich getting loads of praise at the beginning of 2021 season despite having no wins in first 9. They then stupidly sacked Farke. I don’t think Ashton is that stupid.
