Still a Long Way to Go!
Written by itfccymru on Sunday, 26th Aug 2012 10:38

First of all, this is my first blog, i've always wanted to do one and have never got round to it to be honest! I'm 17, and have always been a diehard Ipswich fan and always will be, despite the drama that comes with it! which brings me on to yesterday's 6-0 battering from Blackpool.

I heard Ian Holloway say Town where one of the best sides to play there for quite a while, and to say that after a 6-0 win, has to say something about the way we went about our performance,

Yes, we lost 6-0, however if anything we can use this result as a reality check that we are not good enough at the moment. Paul Jewell has appeared to have found a formation which he sees fit now, however, I am not so sure, the 4-5-1 he plays can be extremely effective away from home to frustrate teams.

However, at home I really do think we should play either 4-4-2 or 4-1-2-1-2, which gives us option. We could have Massimo Luongo, Guirane N'Daw, Luke Hyam and Andy Drury to play the role just in front of the back four, Jet on one wing, Josh Carson (or hopefully a new signing!) on the other, and still have the effect of Lee Martin in the number 10 position supporting Michael Chopra and Jason Scotland or hopefully a new striker we will bring in. I could be wrong, but its worth a go.

Also, having one of the midfield options makes the back four less vulnerable to counter attacks, I think N'Daw could be brilliant in this position, especially with his physical presence.

New Signings

Which brings me on to new players, after the Blackpool game it's obvious to see we need fresh faces in the squad. I've mentioned before we need another centre-back, preferably around 6ft 4, I have also said this many times because I really believe we have never replaced Jason De Vos.

With him you knew what you where going to get. The problem with our centre-backs is, you just don't. A winger.. we really need a new winger, Josh Carson on his day can be a handful for any defence, but I think a lot of Ipswich fans forget he's 19 and we can't rely on him every week.

A striker. The most obvious one, although I have been impressed with Ronan Murray and his attitude, we need a big striker who can get them knock ons for Chops and Scotty.

Centre-back - Kelvin Wilson - I believe him and Luke Chambers could produce a brilliant partnership, hasn't worked out for him at Celtic but would be an asset to any team, also a threat from set plays.

Winger - Jeff Hughes from Notts county? A tricky, goalscoring winger who would be a brilliant signing, scored nine goals for County last season, really believe he could make the step up and wouldn't cost that much!

Striker - Finally a striker, and the person I think we should go for is Jay Bothroyd, with QPR having the money and the players now, they will want to offload him asap, he's 6ft 3, has played with chops before and is proven at this level, he wouldn't cost a lot and the only problem would be wages. Worth a go anyway! seems a perfect match to me.

I really do believe Town can have a good season, its a working progress but the key word is PATIENCE and remember, we're not going to come up against teams like Blackpool every week.

Oh and go easy, this is my first blog ;-)

Positivity from us and good attendances will only help results on the pitch! KEEP THE FAITH! COYB! <3

You make some interesting points. I agree that N'Daw looks a good bet in midfield to tighten up the defence. Also, I agree (as I think most people do) that we could do with a left winger and obviously a new striker too. As regards Kelvin Wilson, I don't think we've got much chance there, unfortunately. I saw him last week when Celtic came over and played Helsingborg (Sweden) in the Champions League qualifications. He came on because Celtic have a lot of injuries in that department just at the moment and he looked pretty solid. I'd be surprised if they let him go with the situation as it is at present. Good to see you're staying loyal to the cause. ITFC are going to need your loyalty for a long time into the future. COYB!

I was saying we are not going to be against sides of Blackpool's quality every week, they are by far the best team in the league. As for patience, you can see Jewell is trying to build a young and hungry team that want to strive for success, that obviously wont happen overnight so yes, patience is needed. We haven't had a defender like Jason De Vos since he has left, one that will get rid of the ball straight away without any danger and also brings a threat from set pieces with him. So do your research before mocking. Maybe a little bit of positivity from a so called 'fan' and we could be in for a decent season, it's people like you that only focus on negatives who are not needed. Grow up and start supporting your so called team!

Canvey ha ha I've been watching ITFC for 40 years it's De Vos and Blackpool in same paragraph that's galling against where we have been. There again I assume you are from Canvey says it all !

If you have been watching them for that long I am surprised you have so little common sense of the basic facts, its fans like you who are bringing this club down. Live in the real world, can you honestly tell me we've had a jason de vos kind of centre back since he has left? our defense has been our downfall for a few seasons now, we conceded the most goals in the league last season because we haven't had that leader in the back four. Shame you can't see the basic facts, ah well!

Yeee of little understanding. Our brief foray back in the big time cost us dear Burley and Sheepshanks fresh from their 15 mins of fame left us 30 m in debt. This was purchased for 8 m but interest payments are circa 25 % of gate income , debt is now at 40 m plus.
We have no sugar daddy just a very good one side visored deal. We have signed a school boy and one other on a free, plus a couple of loans.
My apologies for any abuse just my frustration but we are in deep shi* as a club with no major plan and a benefactor making money.
I have seen the halcyon days we are so far off these it's embarrassing. Blackpool Peterborough are very ordinary clubs but scored at will 12 months apart is this progress!
I'm sorry at 17 you will never see Ipswich as a force in football, I'm not a non supporter just a realist.
Happy days.

In that case yes you clearly have knowledge on the club, but you have to realize the majority of clubs are now in debt, look at Manchester United for example, there over 800m in debt! and i really wouldn't call Blackpool ordinary, they reached the play off final last season, and only went down from the premier league on the last day of the season where they really should have beaten Man Utd on there home soil. How do you know this? I bet if you said to Man City fans 6 years ago they would win the league last season and be in contention for the champions league with players like Aguero Tevez and Ballotelli, they would have laughed in your face! same with swansea, who now to me look a fairly solid premier league outfit, think it was about 8 years ago they nearly went bust! proves anything is possible, who says we can't get promoted in the next few years and establish ourselves as a top 10 premier league side? yes it will take time, money, luck and a hole host of other things, but nothing is impossible in football. We need fans to be supportive of what Jewell is doing, and we need to keep the faith.. then who knows whats possible.. positive thinking!! coyb! <3

Good blog - keep them coming. I agree with lots of what you say particularly about formation and signings (though Alan Judge would be better). Yes let's support the lads but I am afraid I have strong reservations about PJs ability and about Clegg and ME's management of the club so positivity is always tinged with scepticism.

Pip50 as long as you have been a fan/supporter so have i. It is obvious you are frustrated as all of us are but having pops at fellow fans is like being at Portman Road on match day. Your points you have made are very true but then so are the comments from itfccymru. it seems easy to sit behind a keyboard and have a go at fellow fans these days and one bad result brings us all on here moaning. We all get the hump with the currant regime when results don't go our way- me included- but all i was saying was everyone is entitled to their opinion whatever your age being 17 or 47 like me! I am sorry for calling you a KNOB as i have had the hump all weekend and i didn't even go and watch the match! Anyway thats my moaning over with for the weekend and i am now looking onwards and upwards hopefully starting with a win at Carlisle....... COYB. p.s a lot of people mock Canvey but i love it here......It's fu**ing lovely!!!!

Good blog and I am also 17 so nice to see us younger fans getting a opinion and those that are 40+ and moaning at least you have seen town win something and got to watch the great Booby Robson side every week. Unlike fans like me and itfccymru who have only ever seen Championship dissapointment.

Couldn't agree more itfccymru the only way is to be positive and to get behind the boys.COYB!!!!!!!
