Mckenna Forest Rumour 12:37 - Apr 19 with 9353 viewsGaryBirtles

Good Afternoon. Please don't shoot the messenger but there's a rumour flying around Nottingham that Forest want KM to replace Cooper. Forest have apparently made tentative enquires and Mark Ashton is not happy about it. Personally i hope not as Copper has done a great job for us. Has any Blues fans heard anything similar?

All the best for the rest of the season i have no doubt we'll be playing you again next season.

Because….they will treble his money. And both are bigger clubs and more attractive draws than us, arguably.

Are they? How so?

Potentially all 3 in the same league. Based on that post.

Ipswich. Financially supported. Full houses each game especially with higher away attendances.

Wouldn't say either of those 2 clubs are bigger when in the same league. Different ball game when not obviously.

They need to appoint Cook first to get rid of 30+ players first!

Forest and Southampton both have very rich owners and parachute money.

McKenna believes in himself and he would 100% increase his money going to either.

He could well have a decision to make this summer. Let's hope that he's the type of person who wants to build something and have ownership, much like Fergie did at United/Wenger at Arsenal....create something special.

No idea what his financials are like either, not had the lucrative career in football like some, so he'll be making up lost time in that regard.

I hope he's the best paid employee at Ipswich!

I must have missed that.

I would think if we stay down in L1 there's probably the best part of 25 clubs that might be tempting. 20 in the Premier League and the top 5 or so outside it. He won't want another year of his career at this level as much as us fans don't, and who could blame him. Equally if he doesn't get us up then his appeal isn't where it would be if he does.

If we go up to the Championship that 'risk level' probably reduces to what, 15 clubs? All in the Premier League, and the majority of those wouldn't look at him yet. He's not going to get a Villa or Spurs.

If he gets us up, has us competing at the right end of the Championship and gets an offer like that then good on him, I don't think many would resent him taking it. But I don't see him leaving Championship Ipswich with, as you say, the level of ambition and funding we have, for another Championship or YO-YO club who are looking to sack their most successful manager in decades because he couldn't quite keep them up.

That's about where I'd see it. Also, everything about him since he's been here suggests to me that he's a 'project' manager and interested in building something; valuing his own satisfaction in doing a good, solid job that he can, eventually, hand on. Those who talk about quadrupling his salary or whatever, probably don't understand people like this.

I may have been too rude to Mr Turtles in my previous post, no reason why there shouldn't be a 'rumour'.

I think people would have said the same about Graham Potter (And look what he 'handed on' at Brighton.) The fact that someone is articulate, 'modern', polite, patient and organised doesn't automatically mean they're uninterested in 'quadrupling their salary'.

As if you’d bring him in to replace a manager with a few games to go. If you stay up then cooper will presumably stay, if you go down you’ll be in the same division as us, and why would he leave us for you?

He’ll have much loftier ambitions once we’re in the championship.

Have heard similar to be fair. Southampton too. Loads of interest in him and it’s going to be a very long summer.

‘Big club’ has little or no relevance now. All that matters is cash and whether a club has a realistic chance of promotion.

Where do you get this "treble your money" nonsense from? Do you realise how big Gamechanger's pot is? And what makes you think McKenna's motivated by money anyway? We've not seen a single thing to suggest that.

With a blank Checkbook and a management team bigger than most squad sizes, I think town are in with a chance of double promotions.

Absolutely no chance of McKenna joining Forest they certainly ain't a bigger club than Town. In my opinion McKenna will end up eventually at a top notch club. But as yet he hasn't achieved anything yet and if he went to Forest he would soon find out that they are far more likely to dispense of his services than Town are.

I think you're right. But I was interested to hear (on the much-mentioned NTTT podcast) that Sunderland (who have certainly stuttered quite a bit) are doing exceptionally well for a team newly promoted to the Championship. So if one of this exceptional bunch currently at the top of L1 goes on to challenge at the very top of the Championship next season they'll be doing something even more exceptional. This was news to me.

(By contrast, the same podcast said that Wrexham and Notts Co. will be favourites for the L2 title next season.)

I suppose it depends on your definition of bigger but for me, any club that has been in the Prem for ten years is a bigger club than us in most senses that matter. The man on the Clapham omnibus would probably agree.

The successful manager roadmap at ipswich town is slow start, several exciting seasons with a sprinkling of silverware then manager of England. Nailed on.

Only joking, McKenna’s Irish background wouldn’t stand for it. Promotion to championship followed by promotion to premier league followed by move to Man Utd. Debate over.

Well it would only happen after the season ended. At which time we will possibly be in the same league and therefore wouldn't happen as he would see us as a better club to be at.

It's not even a sideways step if both teams end up in the championship Forest brought it 30 players after promotion shi*e on everyone who got them promoted 7 or 8 yea 30 utter madness . How many of those players did Cooper actually want how many were almost forced on him, McKenna in a much better place with the owners here all his good work could be ruined in a very short space of time.

Anyone on the Clapham omnibus who knows their football would say Wednesday who haven't been in the Premier League for more than two decades are a bigger club than Southampton.

Regarding Town, any club that averages more than 26K in the third tier is a big club ... when Soton were in the same division they averaged 22K while Forest in their last season at the same level averaged 19K.

Two divisions might separate us currently, but with the right ownership and manager now in place our potential to grow and grow far exceeds Soton, if anything Pompey is a much sexier South coast project than their nearest and dearest.

You can't just join the big club brigade due to recent success in a single division.

Some of it is subjective of course but Brentford for example will never be as big as Derby or Sheff W as long as I have a hole in my arse.
