Say what you want about Mick in/out 19:09 - May 7 with 4268 viewsLegendofthePhoenix

the facts are:
Lowest league position since the 1950s
Were reliant on a fantastic keeper and a loan striker to avoid finishing even lower
Have treated the FA Cup with contempt and failed to get beyond 3rd round
Have played the dullest football in living memory as evidenced by the lowest ST sales for 20 years

Does anyone really fancy more of the same?

Of course not, but I would also like to see the deeper problems solved -

We have to maintain perspective on the fact that the board expects Mick to get on the podium of the Grand Prix with a Vaxhaul Vectra. A change of manager isn't likely going to change this expectation from the board, and more importantly, the lack of tools the manager has, in any way.

You would at least expect a Vauxhall Vectra to finish ahead of a few Cavaliers and the odd Victor,, never mind losing to The Reliant Robin that was Rotherhsm.

Whilst Mick takes a large portion of the blame

Evans hasn't helped with the low budget apparently on offer

How can you sell Murphy and not replace him with a quality replacement?

I understand with increased the depth of the squad a little bit and have perhaps waited for the summer for some value but they have really let the fans down with a lack of ambition

The ticket fiasco has been an added kick in the teeth for many

The club really needs a strong progressive summer or we could be staring down at a Blackburn scenario in 12 months time

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Roy Keane's football was duller
See 4 central defenders + 4 central mifielders

Paul Jewell's football was a lot worse defensively

So whilst McCarthy is pragmatic, he wouldn't leave us in the kind of situation the other two did

There is at least some base to build from

You seem to forget one crucial point. Evans doesn't care. If Mick brings on another saleable asset then he's happy.

that is not the point I was making. I just made some observations of the facts. As to whether ME and MM are forever entwined, that is more of an opinion. You might think so. I couldn't possibly comment.

A fact should be irrefutably demonstrable. At least 3 of those listed items are opinions (perhaps widely held ones) and not facts.

It's not actually the lowest league position since the 1950s either, it's the lowest since 65-66 - when there were 22 top flight teams (not 20, as they are now) and we finished 15th in the second division and 37th nationally. This season we have finished 16th in the 2nd tier and 36th overall.

I know, whoop-de-doo, it's still terrible. But factually.... 😬

In the same way, theorems such as evolution are not facts. But when there is enough evidence, such as:
we were saved by Bart, who was the fans player of the season - if he wasn't fantastic, why did he win the vote?
Lawro was our top scorer and is a loan player
We have fewer season ticket sales evidencing out dull football.

Those for the vast majority are demonstrable facts. If you want to believe otherwise, maybe you should consider joining the flat earth society?

It is the lowest average points per game in the second tier for 60 years though. Even the much derided Keane and Jewell did better in complete seasons. This is where we have got to. Time for a change.

I'll take the approach that it's cyclical.

In 1959, The Berlin wall hadn't been built. Won the title 3 years later.
In 2017, Trump's wall hasn't been built. The 2019/20 season should be a cracker.

(If we go by the 1959 points per game tally instead of the 1966 finish, then my logic works.)

We will make a couple of low key signings and then Mick will tell us all that he has a great group of lads and we're looking to strengthen but not at these silly prices.

But fear not, we will have a team of proper, honest blokes.

Sigh..............

I reckon we should sack the manager every time we lose a game

I doubt you are correct when you say Mr Evans doesn't care.
Whatever the number he has put a lot of ££'s into ITFC at the moment that all looks in danger of being washed down the drain.
Why would any businessman do that knowingly & willingly by not caring?
