Villa Linked With Wickham Move
Villa Linked With Wickham Move
Thursday, 12th Nov 2009 08:44

Aston Villa are the latest Premier League club to be linked with a move for Town youngster Connor Wickham. Chelsea were mentioned in connection with the 16-year-old last month and are one of a number of top flight sides who have been keeping an eye on him since his days as an academy schoolboy.

FA rules mean that Wickham is unable to sign a professional contract with the Blues until his 17th birthday on March 31st, but Town have always been confident that the 6ft 3in tall frontman will put pen to paper on a deal as soon as he can.

Wickham, whose youth also prevents him from going out on loan this season, recently netted a hat-trick for England’s U17s in a European Championships qualifier against Azerbaijan and was on the bench during Town’s 1-1 draw at Reading on Saturday. He scored his first senior goals in the Carling Cup victory over Shrewsbury in August.

Go to www.sellingthefamilysilveroff.co.uk they're brilliant, you can get things called Rhodes, Clarke, Haynes, all cheap & seem to perform better after they were flogged off.
Can't see it being true as Wickham has yet to make his mark at championship level

It may or may not be 'true'. Any young player who manages to score a hat-trick for England is going to become easy meat for journalists speculation.

No big surprise, is it?

If a hat-trick for England doesn't bring him to the attention of the Prem clubs, I don't know what will!

Hopefully Wickham will want to stay and learn and prove himself where he will actually play ,but saying that will he actually learn we seem to be letting our youngsters down over recent seasons .

On a seperate issue, a question to all town fans ; Those who say Magiltons squad was poor with weak players Wright,Clarke,Haynes.Garvan,Shumi,Campo,Thatcher,Miller and that Keane has built a better squad with better players and team that will get us promotion and last in the premiership, when under Jim were we in the bottom 3 for a third of the season ? Does this mean Jim was excelling as a manager to get us near the playoffs with a poor team or Keane is horribly under performing with a good team ?
And before you all start shouting i thought it was time for Jim to go ,and do not want Keane to leave yet but we have to ask the questions

bedsitfc added 11:22 - Nov 12
i think we are under performing with a stronger team but like i said before things will change and keane will get us promoted within his contract.
hope connor does stay and i think he will coz come next season him and priskin will be a force in this league but do worry about his age we dont want to make him injury prone like micheal owen. as he is still developing

Clearly there was a Market for Rhodes, Clarke and Haynes but surely one Wickham Market is enough!

Surco! How can you put Miller, Thatcher, Clarke and Haynes in that list? Get Real.

Leadbitter or Miller? Leadbitter.
Rosenior or Thatcher? Rosenior
Clarke/Haynes or Priskin? Priskin

The squad HAS improved in quality. The reason Clarke and Haynes are 'doing well' is because they're being played in the positions, somehting Magilton failed to recognise! And who said Haynes is currently doing well?

I think we should have kept Shumi, but there you go.

Keanish you failed to answer the question , so you think that the squad is much better yet we are in a much worse position than ever under Magilton ? So are you saying Keane is doing poorly with a better team ?

trimley tractor - "wickham market, surely one's enough?" great shout

I think we all know that Wickham will be much sought after and I fear this could be another Palace scenario whereby you raise the player who then excels and moves on for peanuts because they are not on a professional contract. This predicament has poisened the mind of Jordan at Palace and I can see his frustration. Unfortunately the same thing could happen here and we will get peanuts for Wickham.

Surco i believe that the reason the team has had a crap start is all done to Magilton leaving - not because of what he did but because of who he was.
Magic was everyones friend and players played no matter how crap they were as long as they were mags friends.
At the beginning of this season they realised that things have changed and that they have a real manager in charge - its not about Keane any manger coming in would have had the same effect - only now have they got used to that and the players you see in the team now are the ones that can hack it, the likes of Garvan, Haynes etc are players that couldnt handle the transition of knowing that they had to work hard to play football.
So for me its nothihg to do with Keane.
and regards to Magiltons success now - 3 reasons - better squad, Doesnt know anyone and doesnt have any say in transfers at all.

Superflude you are also not answering the question saying that players played no matter how crap they were because they were Jims mates ,those players are gone so you are ageeing that the squad now is alot sronger and better yet we are in a lot worse league position than ever before ,then how can it not be Keanes fault ? After 7 months as manager this is now his team however you like to look at it ,he has had plenty of time to bring in players after assessing them over the summer but said he was happy with his squad ,what has changed ?
