Keane Claimed to Be Close to Sack
Keane Claimed to Be Close to Sack
Monday, 23rd Nov 2009 09:03

Manager Roy Keane is close to being sacked after a series of Sunday meetings at the club, according to a tabloid report this morning. Saturday’s goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday sees the Blues remain second-bottom of the Championship.

Sunday meetings were held earlier on in the season at Town, so wouldn’t be an unusual step, particularly with the emergency loan deadline on Thursday and with the Blues targeting a striker.

Despite Town's current position, Keane’s sacking would probably be a surprise at this stage of the season with the Blues unbeaten in six games and chief executive Simon Clegg having repeatedly stated that he and owner Marcus Evans are looking at the long-term rather than the immediate situation.

Meanwhile, midfielder Carlos Edwards has backed Keane, who he also worked under at Sunderland: “Roy Keane is brilliant to work with.

“Everyone has a dark side, but the manager is a top man. If that hadn’t been the case I wouldn’t have been so keen to follow him down here.

“Roy Keane has been used to winning throughout his career, and right now the situation is very different for him. We need to make his job easier. He puts faith in us and we must repay him.”

Edwards says Town need to find a striker to score the goals which will turn the draws into wins: “We've solved our defensive problems, but I think we do need a striker with a proven record of scoring at his level. We do need a striker with a killer instinct in front of goal.”

Be careful what you wish for! I don't particularly like Roy Keane. But then I also dislike the way the club has gone in general. But first you make yourself hard to beat and then you push on. We are only two or may be three wins from mid table and have only lost six games. It is not yet time to panic.
By all means dislike the character of the man but let's divorce the football from the psychotic ...plleeease!

Blueboots. How you can question Carlos Edwards when a striker like Tamas Priskin is playing for us I do not know. In my opinion, Edwards has been solid since his arrival, and had a good game on Saturday. Yes, midfielders can, and should score goals, but the bottom line is that their job is to provide to the strikers, and a lack of goals reflects solely on the personnel upfront.

Priskin was a joke on Saturday, looks like he doesn't enjoy his football right now.

I was a big fan of Roy when he came in, and although I do not want to see him go, im now finding myself on the edge. I think our squad in its present state is more than good enough for top half, so that leaves one problem. Let me ask you, how would you react if your manager at work was on edge, rude, aggressive and unpredictable.

It wouldn't get the best out of me.

I real;ly can not see the point in sacking Keane now. For starters who are we going to get in with their magic wand ? Like one of the posts earlier we have a lot stronger defence now, and are unbeaten in 6 !!! (I know only one win in that !!) however who is going to want the job now apart from someone that has failed somewhere else. As for getting someone in before the loan window closes, so if we get ridf of keane and get in manager in the next 2 days he is going to sign 2 players on loan in a matter of mnutes real world time !!!

Look at Swansea they have scored less goals than us and where they are in the league !!!!

Come lets back Keane and the Blues thats what they need now not moan moan moan !!!

I would like to see Curbs installed as town manager, or anyone who believes in playing football the right way, not hoof ball.....

I wanted RK to do well but I feel playing certain players like Lee Martin upfront is a joke, and dropping Garvan was about power, and not based on footballing ability as OG is a gifted footballer.

AND his number 2 looks lilke some puppet, RK seems unable to work with anyone more experienced than himself and that is a huge failure on his part.

Not a Keane fan, but the defence is working now, and we should give him to Jan to get us out of the rele zone.

If he is to go, we should bring back Burley, with Holland as his assistant.

It has been a very disappointing start to the season and I am becoming increasingly frustrated and worried. BUT sacking RK is NOT the answer - if we do we will be relegated for sure. It will take a new manager time to settle and lets be honest - Roy is still building a team - as like it or not he inherited a poor side - mainly due to JM buying too many below average players.

Roy has strengthened the defence, goalkeeper areas and the midfield is looking better. The missing link is the striker force - which no doubt he is working on.

Can we also put a stop to this Jordan Rhodes nonesense. There is nothing to suggest he would have scored 15+ at Championship level and as most know there were other reasons behind his departure i.e. Roy was not entirely to blame.

It's been a very poor start and Roy needs to improve, but sacking him is not going to help the club - for one it would cost millions to get rid of him!

The one thing that we do NOT need is a 'Director of Football' - before anyone floats that idea.

Either stick with RK or replace him.

It would be foolish to sack RK now, & I think this is the usual paper tittle tattle with no substance of fact. The team are close to turning the corner. Defense seems solid, midfield OK (please keep Garvan in the side & on the left to deliver those crosses). Attack is so short on confidence - just need to work on this. Jeering Priskin won't help him. I agree with ealier post that Counago & Wickham might be a good combo - old wise head & a young confident upstart!

For evans sake (see what I did there). Yes we are in a bad position and yes most of the fickle Ipswich fans who got on the band wagon when we got promoted all those years ago are panicking. But lets put things in perspective. We are unbeaten in 6, we have finally got the defence sorted out (Please hang on to Asmir) midfield is slowly getting it together and our strikers are very short on confidence. He said he was building a squad for promotion within 2 years and I really feel he will achieve that (and no not from league 1 you funny guys) 2 wins and we are up to mid table. I truly believe that Gio will be back at the club and with that final piece of the jigsaw we can achieve mid table for a promotion push next year. Get off Roy Keanes back and concentrate on SUPPORTING the club and team. I know its tough, and I am not one of these blind faith supporters, look at what is developing and if you have half a football brain, you will know it will come together. 1-0 win for us against Cardiff next Sunday. The journey down will be worth it.

This is one rumour I really do hope is true. Get rid of him, he is making a laughing stock of my club, he is destroying its very reputation. Go Keane go!

Jas0999, with respect [and im only repeating whats been said over the weeks ]people claim RK inherited a crap team, But RK had two wins in as many games with them,he has only had one win from 17 from a team he is '' building'', that by any standards is bloody poor if not already disastrous. He came in talking the talk, but he hasnt even started to crawl let alone walk the walk.He is not the man for the club, and we should sort it as soon as possible ,In all my time [45years a supporter] i have never ever felt so strongly about the manager as i do now, lets get someone in and put a few good vibes in the dressing room and the terraces and save the season .

If it did happen then I feel sorry for the new manager, because after 3 months you Keane haters would start hating him........!

Who would want the job

LET'S GET BURLEY NOW! We can rebuild the team & get some confidence. A benefactor with money means we won't have to sell our best players (if we had any) & can buy decent ones wisely. Burley was a flyying wing back - he always plays this style - stockwell, Fab, Petta, Clapham, ulembheck etc - decent width, crosses, goals! He will have learnt after his one bad season in the prem. Bring it on.

jas0999: "most know that there was more to the Rhodes story" do they? Well why not actually say what that was rather than guffing on about some unsubstantiated rumour that you don't even bother to explain! As I heard it Rhodes was desperate to stay and Keane refused to speak to him on the day he signed, as he repeatedly phoned Keane.

Classy man-management.

Anyway, not sure how I feel about sacking him. Yes, our defence is better but the problem is not just the strikers. The team is playing poor football and isn't creating anywhere near enough. E.g if we had Lineker (in his prime) on the pitch on Saturday would he have scored? I doubt it.

After all, we hardly had a world-beating strike force last year (and no Stead was not any good last year either, he just scored a few goals, just as he's doing this year, he was just given more time on the pitch last year) and we did OK. Putting Garvan in was a step forward, now the rest of the team needs to remember to use him, rather than lump it over his head pointlessly, as they did all first-half on Saturday.

I certainly don't agree with those saying wait until after January. What's the point in that? If we're still in the relegation zone I'm assuming those of you asking for this would be happy for him to go, but that will give any new manager less time to fix things and he won't have the transfer window to use to his advantage. And if Keane does then get us out of relegation by then then he won't be sacked anyway will he?

So he either goes in the next couple of weeks or he stays the season, there's little point in doing anything else.

Elburro3. I can question Carlos Edwards because, in our current goal drought, the last thing we need is one of the senior pros at the club effectively saying that he doesn't think any of our current strikers are up to the job - that's hardly going to boost their confidence...

As for "Priskin was a joke on Saturday"? Spent most of the game receiving the ball 40-50 yards out with his back to goal - hardly playing to his strengths. The guy is a quality finisher, but we're unlikely to see that from him (or any of our strikers for that matter) unless our midfield commit numbers forward (which they seem scared to do at the moment) and start putting in better quality balls from more dangerous areas of the pitch.

Keane getting the push would be the best Xmas present this year.

That first half on saturday versus a woeful Sheff.Wed team was abysmal considering we hadn't played for 2 weeks & the 2nd half wasn't much better.

There is no motivation, crap tactics, continual team rotation (in particular the strikers) - what some people see in Keane baffles me.

Was really pleased to see Garvan back in the team ,though where did that selection come from?..& to drop Pablo ahead of Priskin shows signs that Keane does not know what he's doing - Priskin is awful at the moment.

Keane is making me feel completely disheartened about this season and especially about my club which is unforgivable of him.

That press conference last week re the irish - there's a fine line between being a winner and a complete psycho - he falls into the latter...seriously,how could you enjoy playing football for him?

His weight, arrogance, agression and ego need removing from our club's shoulders asap - then we can all move onwards and upwards.

Get Burley or Curbishley in b4 Xmas Marcus.....pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!!

The team has gone backwards. Who's calling 0-0's at home to bottom 6 sides a success???? Under the last 3 managers we would have knocked that side over by 3 or 4 goals. It was always the hard matches we lost. He has a 14% win record. If it wasn't RK, he'd be gone by now. If we wetn't ITFC, he'd be gone by now. Someone on her compared him to Sir Alex!!!! - He had won cups for Aberdeen etc before Man U - What has Keano won except 1 promotion to the prem with a loaded Sunderland! He has bought some bad players. His latest rant makes us a laughing stock. It's got to be back to basics & with a decent bloke.

OK those who say we are 2 or 3 wins from mid table.............we need to straight wins to get out of the relagation zone with none else winning above us. So pants to that bit of spin......we need 4 minimum

Never was keen on Roy and stayed on teh fence looking for results. Well now resoundingly not in his camp. We need a proper football manager Curbishly would be nice....Mariner if you want to be a dreamer!

If they are to get rid of him then they need to do it by the end of the week in my opinion. This would enable the club to get a new man in and give him a couple of weeks to get to know the strengths and weeknesses of the squad before the transfer window reopens in January. This would enable the new guy to set out his campaign stratergy to get us out of this poor place we find ourselves in at this time. I was not impressed with the decision to employ Keane in the first place...seemed just an attempt to salvage the "big club" status that ME was attempting to re-establish. I was however willing to give Keane time to get things moving...but its taking longer than anyone expected. There has been a lot of talk on here about him inheriting a poor squad from Jim....well I dont really see how as a whole how the present squad 'post Keanising' is any worse or better than that and the quality of the football that I have seen this season is not any better than what we got served up last season. If they decide to keep him then fair enough, I shall continue to support my club any how...but if they feel a need to get rid as I said they need to do it pretty soon...maybe wait till after the Cardiff game next weekend. Oh yes....and I heared at the game on Saturday the reason Pablo was not involved was that he had a 'falling out' with Roy in training and had spent most of the latter part of the week training with the yoofs. Obviously a clash of ego's.

Finally!!!!!! best news to come about all season. Now let us hope the board have the bottle to go through and turn this from a rumour to a fact!

There is a distinct lack of postings from everyone who kept on saying the wins will come. Have you all realised they wont come with him in charge??
