Keane Claimed to Be Close to Sack
Keane Claimed to Be Close to Sack
Monday, 23rd Nov 2009 09:03

Manager Roy Keane is close to being sacked after a series of Sunday meetings at the club, according to a tabloid report this morning. Saturday’s goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday sees the Blues remain second-bottom of the Championship.

Sunday meetings were held earlier on in the season at Town, so wouldn’t be an unusual step, particularly with the emergency loan deadline on Thursday and with the Blues targeting a striker.

Despite Town's current position, Keane’s sacking would probably be a surprise at this stage of the season with the Blues unbeaten in six games and chief executive Simon Clegg having repeatedly stated that he and owner Marcus Evans are looking at the long-term rather than the immediate situation.

Meanwhile, midfielder Carlos Edwards has backed Keane, who he also worked under at Sunderland: “Roy Keane is brilliant to work with.

“Everyone has a dark side, but the manager is a top man. If that hadn’t been the case I wouldn’t have been so keen to follow him down here.

“Roy Keane has been used to winning throughout his career, and right now the situation is very different for him. We need to make his job easier. He puts faith in us and we must repay him.”

Edwards says Town need to find a striker to score the goals which will turn the draws into wins: “We've solved our defensive problems, but I think we do need a striker with a proven record of scoring at his level. We do need a striker with a killer instinct in front of goal.”

Just a thought here. As fans, we do not have the luxury to decide if Keane is to be sacked or not. Of course he won't walk as it will further highlight his reputation as a quitter. So, given that this decision is out of our hands, all we can do is support the team and give them as much support as we can. Cardiff will be difficult but not impossible. Now that would be a good point !!!!!

Stand corrected Callum,re RK,i did ask if anyone could help didnt i?
See its not that hard to admit you are wrong, is it?
However that change came at the beginning of a season, not mid where we are now, and i didnt make myself clear did i?

But, please answer my other question, how will a new manager, whoever he may be,make a difference if our club is already ruined?
I mean this, how will a change of personality get us promoted?

I would be delighted if Keane was sacked today or tomorrow, and I wonder if it could happen ahead of tomorrow's AGM?

Saturday showed, in my opinion, why Keane was wrong to leave out Garvan for three months, just as he was wrong to leave out D.Wright before. As for upfront, what was he thinking playing Martin and then Walters?! Stead scored in the previous match, then was dropped. Counago usually plays well at home and he was not even on the bench. Bottom line though he we failed to win another "bread and butter" match. Forget the 6 games unbeaten, the fixtures were not tough and we have won just 1 in 17 league games. How much worse can it be???

Let's get Keane out and appoint Burley.

How would a new manager help us.

A new manager would re-unite the team! I cant speak for the squad but looking at results and some of the stories that we hear i'd say Keane is not like by all the team members. his constant slagging off and team/captain changing has helped us to 2nd bottom!

A new manager would not get us promoted this year, but would 100% giove us a better chance of avoiding the drop. Have no doubts with RK we are headed for league 1. I think a new manager would save us and then help us challeng at the right end of the table.

IF Rk stays we will struggle in this half all season, and then lets say he does some how keep us in the league prepare yourself for another squad ovrhaul, and then excuses saying we need 'time to gell but the signs are there' after we again lose game after game!

Anyone agree with me?

Keanes record is appalling ,6 games unbeaten against some of the the worst form sides in the league is not improvement it just shows we are as bad as them and deserve to be bottom .
Any manager who drops a striker who has scored 2 goals in last 3 games and 2 in the reserves before that for someone who isnt a striker and hasnt been playing deserves the abuse he gets if it doesnt come off and then moans about us not taking chances !!.
Those comparing him to Ferguson exactly when were Man Utd bottom for nearly half the season ? He was nearly sacked for not winning trophies .

At a pre match press conferance the manager should be clever enough to swerve any chat regards a well past argument with the FIA. Given the postion we are in it would have been much more sensible to have concentrated on Ipswich and give 100% to getting 3 points, not rake over old wounds. For me it showed a lack of judgment and not for the first, if the press can get a reaction they surely will.

Ditto UEAFA81.

Like so many i'dve run through a brick wall for Sir Bobby & for Lyall,Burley,Royle&Jim to be honest - personally, wouldn't cross the road for Keane.

I love the argument that we sold Rhodes for 150,000 pounds. Pure genious BS.

Ferguson had won the lot with Aberdeen. He changed the culture at Man Utd. You can't compare his managerial skills to Roy Keanes. That's a serious insult to Sir Alex. Read RK's biog - every other page he's beaten someone up or had a row etc. The bloke is no manager. Best he goes home, banks another compensation cheque & enjoys his dogs & £27mil!

What do people think the reason is for the difference between Keanes ability to take Sunderland up as champions and Ipswich to relegation?

Was the Sunderland squad miles better?
Has Keane changed?

I must confess to not knowing a lot about your players (bar two) as I'm a Sunderland supporter.

However, let me guess at what you guys might see as your team's/RK's deficiencies.

1) No player with the same qualities as RK (not as good as, but same qualities) in the middle of the park.

2) Far too many changes in team selection and a seeming inability to know who his best XI actually are.

3) Strange tactics and even stranger substitutions.

4) An inability to, seemingly, look beyond his former team mates and people who have played well against you for signings.

They are just guesses but, if they are accurate, would mirror, exactly, his spell with us.
