Keane Claimed to Be Close to Sack
Keane Claimed to Be Close to Sack
Monday, 23rd Nov 2009 09:03

Manager Roy Keane is close to being sacked after a series of Sunday meetings at the club, according to a tabloid report this morning. Saturday’s goalless draw with Sheffield Wednesday sees the Blues remain second-bottom of the Championship.

Sunday meetings were held earlier on in the season at Town, so wouldn’t be an unusual step, particularly with the emergency loan deadline on Thursday and with the Blues targeting a striker.

Despite Town's current position, Keane’s sacking would probably be a surprise at this stage of the season with the Blues unbeaten in six games and chief executive Simon Clegg having repeatedly stated that he and owner Marcus Evans are looking at the long-term rather than the immediate situation.

Meanwhile, midfielder Carlos Edwards has backed Keane, who he also worked under at Sunderland: “Roy Keane is brilliant to work with.

“Everyone has a dark side, but the manager is a top man. If that hadn’t been the case I wouldn’t have been so keen to follow him down here.

“Roy Keane has been used to winning throughout his career, and right now the situation is very different for him. We need to make his job easier. He puts faith in us and we must repay him.”

Edwards says Town need to find a striker to score the goals which will turn the draws into wins: “We've solved our defensive problems, but I think we do need a striker with a proven record of scoring at his level. We do need a striker with a killer instinct in front of goal.”

A few questions:

Why do people always hanker for the return of previous managerial greats? Give me one example of a once successful manager "coming home" and I will give you ten flops.

Why do so many people think that ex-players will make good, long-term managers? If that's the sort of team you want, go and support Newcastle Utd.

Why is the ignorant minority always the most vocal?

Why is the stupid* minority always the most vocal?

(* based on a quick glance at the spelling of simple words like "you're" and "their")

footnote: the author of this post does not, in any way, suggest that all RK haters are illiterate or stupid.

this is the wrong time to sack him !!
we are unbeaten in 6 games which means he must be doing something right.
mucking about with managers will only cause the team to become unsetteled which means that we are back to square one and bottom of the league.
Yes we may be second from bottom but that should hopefully change once we get in a decent striker and possibly a left footed player to play on the left wing.
keep the faith UTT !!

CGS, it's time for you to put your cards on the table - Do you want Roy Keane to stay or not?

Jeez here we go again with all the Magilton/Keane lovers v Magilton/Keane haters cr@p. We all support the same team don't we? Calling one another “idiots” and spewing repetitive misspelt diatribes just because you happen to have a difference of opinion is hardly the way to win friends and influence people is it?! Grow up & leave it in the playground you ridiculous little girls!

This forum is close to rfeal life...
If you are asked to leave a comment at a restaurant, most right minded people dont bother, if you have a gripe you leave a negative comment.

On here, you seem to hear from the same people all the time complaining about their "lunch"
The silent majority are happy with the way things are, and back the current regime.....sorry but i never was one to hold my peace, i am getting so fed up with wingers, i felt it time to speak up.

TXURI MATE - your beloved manager is the most vocal - slaughtering his players, the press. Delaney etc etc - I've never seen a more vocal manager. By your calculation, that makes him stupid!

Callum you do make me smile!!! :o)

You SHOUTED — “THE SH8TEST MANAGERS I HAVE EVER WITNESSED SINGLE HANDEDLY RUIN A CLUB”

And yet by your own admission you haven't been anywhere near Portman Rd all season. So how exactly have you “witnessed” this phenomena? And more to the point, why should we give any credence to a single word you bleat? Go and have a lie down dear, you'll feel better soon.

"Manager of football club which not doing very well may be close to being sacked."

Not much of a story really, is it?

CGS, I will try and answer your question, although the definitive answer is a bit elusive, if it was easy to answer then we would not probably be in the sitaution we are in.

No, i dont think certain relegation is, us the fans fault. All fans want ITFC to succeed, and i suspect even an armchair "fan" like you want the same.

Mr Evans? Dont know how to answer this one,oh yes i do . YES. If he sacked Keane now, whoever he bought in to repalce him has one helluva job, dont they.
As soon as the new mangaer lost his first match, you lot would be calling for his head, and crying for Keane to come back, yes i know that sounds fickle, but in my opinion you are.

Results have not gone our way. This does not make us a "ruined club",at the moment there is a semblance of stability, no loss for 6 games, the defence looking confident, although the loss of Begovic may make a difference, and the midfield starting to create.
Change the manager, and who is to say that these fragile building blocks dont tumble down once again, and we have to start all over.
I have really wracked my brain, and if anyone can answer this, please do.
Has there ever been a case when a change of manager, when a team is near bottom, ever made a real difference?
I cant think of one.Panic changes in management only causes more panic, thats why i think that sacking RK,will mean certain relegation.
But dont worry ME is not that stupid.Hence i am not worried or "gutted at this "story"
Hope that answers your question

I reckon this is only some lazy tabloid journo looking at the TWTD forum last night, where there was an (unsubstantiated) rumour of a meeting.

Probably nothing (other than red-top wishful thinking) in it.

Here we go again, Roades is scoring at the same rate / level as Lisbie and Forster should we get them back also?

EastLondonBlue added 09:14 - Nov 23

Yes indeed, a striker who can get goals.....hmmm....didnt we just sell one of those?? For £150k!!!!!!!! And imo if we're in the habit of trying out different partnerships up front why on earth arent we trying Pabs and Connor? That seems the best up front combination to me......

finidigeorge88 added 12:25 - Nov 23
Pablo and Wickham upfront are you joking me, some people get with the real world wickham is 16, if we had a confident striker scoring goals im sure we will climb the table but god knows where he is going to come from.

HArry redknapp took them from bottom with 2 points to challenging for the uefa cup.

Heres ironic - Didnt your hero Keane take sunderland from botom to champions??? You cant have racked your brain too much to find the answer to that one did ya?

Anyway injured how old are you? You give off this image that your quite mature with all your accurate spelling and the occasional long word, then you come out with 'your a spurs fan' ????? really quite immature!
