Boothroyd to Make Lisbie Call
Boothroyd to Make Lisbie Call
Thursday, 10th Dec 2009 13:51

Colchester United boss Aidy Boothroyd says he is yet to get hold of Town manager Roy Keane to discuss striker Kevin Lisbie's future. The Blues are set to recall the former Charlton man from his season-long loan early in January.

Boothroyd has said he wants Lisbie for at least the rest of the season but last week Keane revealed he was yet to receive a call from the U’s regarding the frontman. However, the ex-Watford boss says he hopes to speak to him soon: “I do have a number for him but as yet I haven't been able to get hold of him on it. He's a reasonable sort of guy though and hopefully we can move forward.

“I think Kevin Lisbie is a terrific player and I'd like to keep him, but the bottom line is that Kevin Lisbie earns a Championship salary and that really he's a Championship/Premiership player.”

Meanwhile, former Town striker Paul Mariner has been named the new manager at Plymouth Argyle. Mariner, who joined the Pilgrims as head coach earlier in the season, takes over from Paul Sturrock, who moves to a business support role at Home Park.

Chairman Sir Roy Gardiner said: "The board has decided to make this move following the continuing poor set of results. We're convinced we have the capability to remain in the Championship."

Elsewhere, a reported dressing room source appears to have backed up Jim Magilton’s claim of no wrongdoing after the QPR-Watford game.

Magilton is alleged to have headbutted midfielder Akos Buzsaky, but the source says this wasn’t the case: "There was no headbutt, nothing like it. Akos was actually sitting down at the time.

"It was exactly the sort of discussion you'd expect after a disappointing defeat. Jim bent down to speak to Akos, it got a bit heated, forehead to forehead and [coach] Keith Ryan told Jim to move away. Jim did, but then Akos got up and ran out of the dressing room.

“John Gorman told him not to be so stupid and to come back inside. But he refused."

Yesterday, Magilton was suspended pending an investigation into the incident.

Get Lisbie back in the team now, he's scoring goals for Colchester and we need a goal scorer

Lisbie couldn't score in a brothel, same as the rest of our strikers

Lisbie (just like Rhodes) is scoring goals in division 1, there is no guarentee that if we recalled him that would do the same for us. He has already said that he does not want to return so if Col U or anyone makes an offer I say, take it.

I wonder how much we will get back of our 600k outlay. Col u will be hoping he is for nothing , as already they are saying he is on high wages.

Surely he is worth 300k to someone !

The bottome line is Col Ewe like Lisbie and want him . But they simply cant afford the fee or his wages.

Lisbie wants to stay at Col Ewe. because he's in his comfort zone ie he's a league one, level, player. He doesn t wnat to return to Town because it's too much like hard work "Id have to start all over again"...and because I think he actually feels out of his depth.

Summary : Col Ewe want him , but cant afford him.
We dont want him

So he'll probably go to palace as part of the deal to bring Stern John to Town!

Bye bye Lisbie , dont let door hit too hard on the arse as you leave.

Another deadful signing by Magilton and must the laziest player we have ever signed. He was hopeless at Charlton and rarley played and he was hopeless with us. I don't like the guys attitude at all and do not want him back here. Sell him or make Col U pay all his salary.

Lisbie needs to accept if he wants to stay at Colchester he's got to drop his wages to League One level. He can't expect Championship wages at Colchester, they can't afford it. Is he after money or regular football?

Interesting why does he play well for Colchester but not us or Charlton or norwich?

I'd rather see Thatcher back in a Town shirt than Lisbie. Waste of space who's found his level in League 1.

Given our current problems in front of goal, giving him a few games in January could be worth a punt? If he's still no good he can go back to Colchester for a small fee, if he scores a few and helps pull us away from our current relegation plight, then so much the better!

Here's a good idea, lets sell a sought after young striker in Rhodes for give away money (compared to Priskin),then cling on in the hope that an old player already rejected can get the club out of the Shiiiiit, how much lower is this great club going to sink, prob' the old div' 3 by the looks of it.

The Lisbie signing didn't work out for us - simple as that. The player is happy at Colchester and they want him. If he takes a pay cut and if Colchester offer a reasonable fee in January - then both the player and the Colchester manager will get their Xmas wish. He isn't the answer to our problems and didn't have a great time at Ipswich. Despite what folks say, yes - he may have just about played slightly better away from home - so what. He wasn't an "Ipswich" type player and us, as supporters, demand more, whether that be goals or something like what Pablo contributes, on a good day - something other than what we have.

Priskin, Lisbie, Parkin - which was the worst signing. None - it was Drissa Diallo I think you'll find!

Kevin Lisbie is really the only player in our squad, who over the last four or five seasons has looked like a goalscorer. I know the goals haven't flowed in an Ipswich shirt yet, but before he came here he was banging them in, and after he left on loan, he has been banging them in. Lets not forget he is a player who has a Premier League hat-trick against Liverpool to his name - no one in this division can match that.

As for Jim Magilton - delighted to here that there is support for him. Hopefully, this spells the end for Akos Buszaky at QPR, and not Jim.

Rhodes and Lisbie are from the same cast - they look really good at THEIR level which is League One !

JayITFC added 22:11 - Dec 10
To tar Rhodes with the same brush as Lisbie is unfair (and probably sour grapes because it looks like the club has made a mistake). Jordan is young and hasn't completed a full first team season at any club yet, no matter what division. I hope he does well wherever he goes.
