Keane Speculation Starts Again
Keane Speculation Starts Again
Thursday, 18th Mar 2010 09:00

Tuesday’s defeat at Watford again has the tabloids speculating that Roy Keane’s time as Town manager may come to an end sooner rather than later. One report this morning claims Keane and Marcus Evans will hold talks before the end of the season.

Town’s owner and chairman is said to be less than impressed with the Blues’ position in the table and with the style of football, while players are claimed to be unhappy with Keane’s management.

Reports that Keane’s time as manager would be coming to an end have appeared fairly regularly throughout the season, particularly during the long winless run, with chief executive Simon Clegg previously giving the Blues boss his and Marcus Evans’s backing.

However, Evans is unlikely to have been impressed with the Blues struggles at the wrong end of the table this season, having invested significant sums to help Town into the Premier League.

I am bemused by the continuing faith that people still seem to be prepared to put in Keane. By any measure, his performance has been at best poor and in my view unacceptable. This idea that giving him another season just doesn't stack up: there is nothing in the last 6 months which indicate that giving him another season will achieve anything. This idea that they are his players has some truth but if they are not good enough it doesn't matter who's players they are. Whether it's Keane in charge or someone else we need at lest 5 new players in the summer to compete next season anyway.
I accept that changing now in the precarious position we are is not in our interests and I think that we just about have enough to scrape clear.
I don't think Evans can afford (either financially or egotistically) to have Keane in charge next season.

Key words 'tabloid speculation'. Enough said.

I would only consider getting rid of Roy, if Curbs was lined up to take over. Even then, I still believe RK will come good - just my opinion mind.

Hmm. Bipolar Ipswich Town again.

Win - "Keane in!" - lose - "Keane out!" - win - "Keane in!" - lose - "Keane out!" - and so on and so on.

Probably a good job we've had so many draws. There'd be people having apoplectic fits otherwise.

It is a business - much as I would like to still be in the days of The Cobbolds taking Sir Bobby out for a bottle of red if we won and two bottle if we lost , it is the game we are in.
ME has kept us afloat - we are part of his business - he appointed a Manager who has ,in any terms Footballing and Business , not delivered.
He has some decent loanees - but his signings are less than impressive.
keane is not a manager of people and this wil also be looked at
Maybe not what people want to hear but that is the facts
We all want us to succeed but in my heart I do not believe keane has the right attributes

I would love it for Keane to turn it round, but I cannot see the strategy. In the summer the loanees will go back and it looks like Owen Garvan and David Wright will leave on free transfers due to the treatment they have received. What does substituting Garvan after 20-odd minutes do to him (especially for Lee Martin!)? Why was the back-four changed after keeping two clean sheets? Today I read that Keane is hitting out at other managers. So many strange decisions in one week.

if Keane went who would come in and do a better job? personally i think if he went we would probably go down, sacking him would affect morale of the players, they enjoy working under him sacking him would have a negative affect and im afraid it would probably be league 1 for us.

I hope Marcus Evans keeps him in until the end of the season at least, see where we finish and then make a decision.

I agree with Guthrum - some of our fans are as inconsistent as the team itself

true this hasnt been a great season but i can think of much worse, both premier league relegations those seasons were horrendous some of the worst football ive seen.

lets just get behind the team and get safe!!! COYB!!!

oh whats the point of changing it now..we all know ipswich aren't gonna get promoted next season whoever is it charge...its gonna take atleast another 2/3 seasons.

think of the mass changes. might aswell give him another season, minimum.

Must admit, confused as to what I think is right. There's no denying that after the truly dismal start we have picked up - we'd be top 10 easily if we ignore the first 15 games.

Which seems to suggest that things are improving and maybe RK is getting things right.

However, we're still not very good, we draw way too often, he messes with the team too much, we have too many loan signings, he's shown no evidence that he has any form of scouting network outside of his former clubs, he manages players badly, he prefers graft to guile way too much and we're still relegation threatened.

So plenty of cons too.

He should see this season out definitely, but next year I'm really torn.

naa, your right I'm not really sure what the right thing to do is either?!
But I don't think anyone can say that we've not given Keane a fair chance, we kept faith in Sept/Oct when we were on a truly dreadful run, then we kept the faith & said lets give him to Christmas, only for things to plod along, then we saw light at the end of the tunnel & said lets let him have the transfer window, which didn't seem to have much impact.
My fear is that we continue to plod along til the end of the season, in the hope that we are going to suddenly improve hugely, but then its to late & we get relegated. If we do survive lets not get carried away into thinking we've had a successful season, this is the worst I can remember. So do we change manager now or not?....... I just don't know!!

Osborne1nil................you nicked my name!!!!!

For what it's worth, I'm not convinced we should get rid now, but at the same time, I would not be upset if he went either.

2 year contract...1 year to go (at least).
It's up to the 'Unhappy players' to grow up (bless them) and except RK's style.
Get on and give 100% for the manager, team and fans.

if i'm honest i find it honest to support keane. I have never liked him and even if was to win every trophy we enter for the next few years i would still find it difficult to support him. Sorry if that annoys a few people but its my opinion.

The man is a liability and it needs to be sorted out. End of season get rid of him and go for somebody with decent track record in this league.

tractorboybig added 12:05 - Mar 18
I suppose we should stick with him until the end of the season what ever happens.
This team squad is pi** poor. We are no worse off with a new manager rebuilding over a season. This lot are going no where.
Of course Keane may win ALL the games left (hick) and then you would all be shouting how wonderful the man is.
I just wonder if our manager had been anyone else, he would in the circumstances still be in the job??

After the poor start to the season there have been signs of improvement but can anyone honestly say that we've improved to the standard that is required? I don't think so. That and that alone is what sways me towards wanting a new manager. I just cant see us being a good side next season just mid table at best.

I'm all for giving managers time but you have to be able to see that the manager is making improvements. 8 million pounds spent to be where we are and playing as badly as we do quite often is simply not good enough.

Interesting how many times people who post on here refer to "Keane haters" and "Kean worshipers".

The majority of fans that I know are neither one or the other.

Pointless speculation. Keano is the boss until told otherwise. COYB

I take a lot of notice of the things that Shane Supple commented on, concerning our inconsistent squad that seems to have been a deeply rooted problem to extract since the last Royle season. Especially the bit about players priorities weren't to get promotion but to stay in cosy Championship contracts. Given Roy's driven hunger for success at all costs this is probably the last thing he'd settle for.

Putting aside our results for a minute and just looking at performances and their consistency (although still a bit inconsistent, much less so than the past 4 years), I believe he has stopped the rot but he's still probably got a few players to weed out & move on and we need someone as brutal and focussed like him to do it: to assemble a new squad that has those qualities to win week in week out to grind out a promotion against all tactics thrown at them. If we give up on him now I can see a drift back to cosy midtable indifference. Sometimes you have to go back, teeter on the brink, then hold your nerve, to go forward.

We won't go down and Keane will stay till the end of the season at least...but he really better sort it out soon - no sign of progress and he'll go in the summer.

The problem is that he's got the ego of Clough with out the talent to back it up. Dropping D Wright and subbing Garvan were woeful decisions. Managers get paid to make the right decisions and it's clear that he's not doing that enough.

My two main gripes;

1. Lack of a consitent first XI selection, even when winning.

2. 4 of our first XI are loan players.

Due to the extremely poor performance this season we now seem to have low expectations of what we should achieve.

The consensus on ITFC seems to mirror the attitude to Labour at present.

It seems that Ipswich fans are easily pleased with the continued backing of Keane, the last time we saw any decent football was when Joe Royal was in charge. This man had a small squad and no money to play with.
To keep saying keep the faith in Keane is laughable, we should get a new manager in during the close season and try to win the fans back by aiming to play decent football. For me promotion to the Premiership is secondary. If no change is made I can see us watching the same painfull style of football we have had to put up with all season.
Another point is what does Marcus Evans and Simon Clegg realy know about football !!!!! KEANE OUT

I for one am more than a little tired of Keane's "honest & open" pre/post match interviews (more often than not following a disappointing result)...he's paid to get us up the table , playing attractive football in the process..not entertain us in the press room.

He's doing neither.

Time for a change Marcus.

Burley or Curbishley ?

Do it and do it soon, before someone else snaps them up.

Keane goes - we have a season of rebuilding and mid table mediocrity,
Keane stays - we have a season of mid table mediocrity/relegation battle/crap football......
I'm now past caring. Sort it out ME if you want my money for next year
