Norris Proud to Be Captain
Norris Proud to Be Captain
Monday, 16th Aug 2010 15:23

New skipper David Norris says he is proud to have been given the Blues’ armband in the wake of the bust-up between manager Roy Keane and former captain Jon Walters. Norris has already scored three goals this season, including a backheel in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Burnley.

The 29-year-old says he is looking lead the side by scoring even more goals: “I’m very proud and honoured. I know it’s a cliché but this is a big club and it means a great deal.

“I once scored eight in a season and hopefully I can beat that this time around. The formation we are playing now allows me more freedom to get into the opposing box and in that case I should be scoring more often. I can’t remember backheeling the ball in a game before, let alone to put it into the net.”

Norris, who is pleased with four points from the first two league matches, says he won’t comment on the situation regarding his friend Jon Walters: “I don’t want to comment on the relationship between the manager and Jon.

“He has very high standards and wants us all to be focused all the while. He asks for 100 per cent from us, and if you do this he is happy. I feel I can speak to him and that he is approachable and will take on board any points that I might raise.”

Norris has been named Man of the Match by TWTD readers in all three of this season’s games.

Norris you have started the season brilliantly, keep it up & keep banging the goals in. Your work ethic is fantastic and you are a great role model for the younger players coming through.
When I met you last year you were in the training ground gym on your own trying to get back to fitness so it is great to see you have made a full recovery.

Just read the full interview with Norris, think this is the most worrying line from it

“I have one year left on my contract and I still have some unfinished business as I came here to get this club promoted.”

Nice article above if you read it as it is, worrying if you read the entire interview though or maybe I am just reading into things that arent there. What can I say, I have been a Town fan for far to long!

Why mention the one year left, angling for a new contract? Letting other teams know he will be available in a year?

And I am proud to have you as our captain!!! A town legend in the making possibly... An absolute work horse and no pre-madonna etchings! I think he epitomises effort and commitment and always seems to try... Chuck - Walters out! ha ha! This guy needs a new contract put infront of him in my opinion...
Any news anywhere on the new signings??? I feel so optimistic about this forthcoming season (more than I have for years before, where I expected mediocre at best!), but I will feel deluded if we don't get our hotshots upfront!!!

I'm delighted he is our Club Captain but come on, is he likely to say anything apart from "gushing pride"!!!!!

You could tell from the early on Norris was a good player.
Somebody that eschews peronal image for the good of the team - gets up and down and does the dirty work. Plus a sprinkling of skill as well.
Could be our next Matty Holland.

Great player deserves to be captain and will hopefully be getting on the scoresheet more times this season!

seasonticketsteve...you could interpret it like that, or you could interpret it as he is taking nothing for granted, and realises that he only has a left at the club and is desperate to play for us in the premiership. i don't see that as a worry, clubs will know how long players have left on their contracts so i don't believe it is anything to worry about

Chuck Norris is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head!

He's a proper leader, unlike Walters. He can lift the team at any time. Great start to the season, COYB!

" I feel I can speak to him and that he is approachable and will take on board any points that I might raise.” .......... As long as he agrees with them !!

I'm sure he will show a bit more passion and commitment than Walters ever did. Already contributed 3 goals as well.

When Walters does finally make a move away, just what disclosures he's going to reveal about the club and Roy Keane won't be as interesting as him explaining as to why he's had all those viruses recently and his latest miracle recovery just days after being too unwell and unfit to play.
When he was relieved of the captaincy because of his desire to get away from the club, he throws his toys out of the pram,
Just what other choice does he leave the manager when he's unreliable and totally uncommitted.

Norris played exceptionally well Saturday and upheld the faith shown in him by the manager and his celebration on scoring was clear to see that the club means something to him.

Some players seemed inhibited by the captain's role, but Norris took it on with relish and looks an excellent choice.

Norris was an excellent Captain at Plymouth... just ask any Plymouth fan... leads by example and always gives it his all, even when things are not going our way. Have you ever seen him chin down and not putting it in during a game? I haven't... seen it after a game, which means he cares... great choice as Captain as he does take the role with pride and gives that little bit extra with it as well. I hope RK gets talking about extending his contract!

It's funny how much difference a couple of weeks make! Was despairing at town's new season and now everything seems so muh rosier. I know it's early doors but maybe a change of captain and the good perfromances so far will push us further.

Alwasy liked Norris and and i'm surprised he hasn't been given the the armband sooner. Good stuff Chuck. Keep it up.

Norris will make an excellent captain. I just didn't rate Walters. A personal opinion I guess, but I am sure that David won't let us down. Good appointment Roy.

I agree with Norris being captain and I personally have thought walters is very overrated i cant argue he tries hard but I can run round like headless chicken and when he is in the team all we do is that long ball looking for him to flick it on that was one main reasons we turned into long ball merchants will suit him at stoke then swap him for kitson he really is a good leader of the line and scores plenty too even though is a ginger lol

agree with all the best captain we have had in a few years, natural leader. think he would have had the role before had it not have been for that hand signal incident. As for Walters he can reveal what he likes, anyone who creates a fake illness just so they dont have to wear a town shirt has no credbility in my mind. I know some have said maybe it was a genuine virus, but thats the second one in that many weeks and both co-incided with matches - doesnt take a genius!
