Town Complete Scotland Signing
Town Complete Scotland Signing

Town have confirmed the signing of Wigan striker Jason Scotland for a fee understood to be £750,000. The Trinidad and Tobago international, whose move to Town was first revealed on TWTD earlier in the month, has signed a two-year deal.

Scotland was unveiled at a press conference at Portman Road this lunchtime and says he’s pleased to have joined the club: “I’m delighted to be here and an Ipswich player and hopefully I can continue to score goals in the Championship and carry Ipswich Town into the Premiership.”

Manager Roy Keane said: "Jason is a good player and I'm delighted to have him at the club. He will bring us something different.

"He is more of a poacher than the other strikers we have here, who do a lot of work down the channels.

"We are always going on to our front players about being in and around the six-yard box and Jason will do that.

"He has proved he can score goals at this level but we have to be patient with him and give him time to settle in."

Town chief executive Simon Clegg confirmed that the move had been expected to go through last week but Wigan manager Roberto Martinez wanted to keep him for the weekend game against Chelsea.

Clegg says he’s pleased to finally get his man: “I’m absolutely delighted to have completed the signing of Jason. I think we as a club recognise that one of the areas we were short on last season was putting the ball in the back of the net and we wanted a striker with a proven record of doing so at this level.”

Scotland started his career his career in his home country with San Juan Jabloteh and Defence Force, where he played alongside his close friend Carlos Edwards.

In 2003 he joined Dundee United after a trial, moving on to St Johnstone two years later and then Swansea City for a fee of £25,000 in 2007.

Scotland enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Swans, netting 29 goals in all competitions during their 2007/08 League One promotion campaign and 24 in the Welsh side’s first year back in the Championship.

Last summer the 5ft 8in tall striker moved on to Wigan for £2 million but the switch hasn’t been a success, the Trinidadian netting only one league goal last season.

Nicknamed Rocket, Scotland has won 41 full international caps and has scored eight goals, playing alongside Edwards and former Blues loanee Stern John.

The 31-year-old, who has been handed the number 10 shirt will be in the squad for tomorrow’s Carling Cup tie at Crewe.

Up to Jason now to show everyone that he has still got what it takes - we get more balls in the box than anyone else in this league, the rest is up to him.

At last this saga ends. Thanks heavens for that as began to wonder if it would ever happen. Could still do with another front man though - McCormack more realistic than Chopra but wonder about his temperament - why not go for Fryatt now that would be exciting.

Like it! Skilful, Strong and two-footed. Shame he's not 5 years younger but i am excited about him!! I would have thought he'll need a couple of games to get his match fitness up, but here comes a hatrick against Crewe on debut.

just need Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi on either wing and our team is complete...

Good news and better than Stead (on paper) Only problem one in and one out. We are no better off in numbers so we still need another striker a right back and a midfield.
See McCormack was an un used sub for Cardiff on Saturday. HALF MILLION IS THE FIGURE BEEN QUATED GO FOR IT

Glad tol see we have actually done the buisness to bring someone in, but this deal and maybe a few others has taken a hell of alot longer than it should have done. Im suprised that no one else really went for scotland considering his championship record.

to be honest its a huge risk, what has clegg and evans done to this club we have a bare squad and only made 1 permanent sighing its a huge disappointment, its very true ipswich use to be a family club but now its a shambles, the board need to back keane like at sunderland

Great news ! Did not like the Keane comments that no more permanent signings this time only loans . We need fully committed players who will go the distance for the team not to improve their chances with someone else !

An encouraging signing, I'm sure some will bemoan his age and recent record for Wigan, but he's a real handful type of player with a good track record at this level.

a defensive midfielder now as we cant expect luke to play every game.
we have creativity in midfield but would like another right sided attacker cum midfielder as not sure on edwards.

Jason mon.

Now I's know that some people say that Keano is a 'badjohn' but de truth is he's a 'sweet to bad' manager.

I as no doubtin' that there are many a Championship defence that contains defenders that you and Carlos can make a 'Bobolee' out of.

You'll be 'Makin Style' your skills for sure mon 'Now fuh Now' cos you is a fine fine 'Saga Boy'.

We is all behind you brother and if TG says tings then bear dat she is a ''Cunumunu'.

Respect. Aye!

Exciting signing! The Trinidad connection Edwards/Scotland could do the trick for us. Good luck at Portman Road!
