Colback Linked Again
Colback Linked Again
Tuesday, 7th Sep 2010 13:23

Town are again being linked with a move to bring Jack Colback back to Portman Road on loan. The 20-year-old Sunderland midfielder spent last season with the Blues and made a huge impression, either winning or finishing in the top three in all the player of the year awards.

Colback returned to the Stadium of Light for the final day of 2009/10, picking up a red card on his Premier League debut for the Black Cats.

After serving a one-match ban, Colback has been on the bench for all Sunderland’s games so far this season, but so far has made only one more appearance, in the Carling Cup victory over Colchester United.

Black Cats boss Steve Bruce has previously said that Colback will be part of his first team squad this season, however, Roy Keane’s one-time Manchester United team-mate said much the same about striker Martyn Waghorn, who he recently allowed to move to Leicester City on a permanent basis.

Towards the end of last season Keane, who is currently on the lookout for more loan signings, said he would be interested in Colback returning but didn’t expect him to become available.

Quality player. I wouldn't of thought that Bruce would be eager to let go though considering Colback is making the bench on a regular basis.

Whether or not it's possible at the moment is debatable, but I'd like to think we'd have first shout if he became available, which is reassuring. Would welcome him back!

Here's hoping Connor Wickham takes note of what happens to young promising players (such as Colback) at so called "big" Premiership Clubs -- they dont play regular football , and invariably sit on the bench AT BEST !

Agree, superb player & would love to see him come back, but I wouldn't want norris & Leadbitter spliting up from the current team, think they've had a tremendous start to the season.

Class player. Where will he fit in with Norris, Leadbitter and then Hyam? I would be more than happy to see him back at PR, COYB!

If Wickham were looking at Colbacks situation, I doubt he would conclude hes doing terribly.
Hes moved from reserve team to season on loan in championship, with many plaudits, to sitting on the bench for a premiership club with a good chance of getting on the pitch.
From Colbacks point of view, I reckon hes pretty happy with progress and that opportunities in the first team arent far away.

Colback's the perfect player for versatility in our current formation.
Cover and possible rotation for Norris and Leadbitter. On the left starting or rotation with Townsend or at full back. Win-win for me. Come on Brucey....

agree with all on here, dont want to see him take the place of Norris or Leadbitter or Hyham for that matter BUT either use as an impact player to change things around second half, or as a versatility player as he can pretty much slot into most positions..... it says we are linked - who made that link? Just like to know how likely this is! Also read the cardiff blogs they really like that McPhail character and dont want to see him leave.... lets just hope it ends in tears for them and smiles for us!

good player, but i am very happy with our current midfield

My only concern would be, although he was inevitably a strong performer whenever and wherever he played, he was part of a less than dynamic looking midfield. This season has started with a very good and fluid midfield, so hopefully he wouldn't be slotted in the middle, causing norris to be moved out to the right etc because as a package that didn't work at all last season.

I can see him as being good enough to fill any of the 3 current midfield spaces though, so as long as the dynamics stay the same i would say get him!

Would be good to have him here. He can play wide left, & even left full back, or cover for Hyam Leadbitter & Norris. Law of averages says one of those will get injured at some time, and Norris is only one yellow from suspension

As much as I like him and would like him back, having someone playing for us who looks EXACTLY like my younger brother would always play on my mind!

Would be great to get him back here for the season and hopefully Bruce will let him come to us where he will be welcomed with open arms. Come on Keano get on the phone and bring Jack back.

I fully agree Town's squad is a bit thin on the ground and we do need cover.

If we get Colback, back here, he will be expecting 1st team football ....But you know what they say ...."if it aint broke, dont fix it "

So there appears to be a bit of a connundrum (my spl apart !)

Isn't Norris one booking away from a ban so things like that have to be considered we may have no choice in breaking up the three guys in midfield at the mo

Would love to see him back as he was one of the few good points of last season and yes where to slot him in at the minute is a problem, however Norris, Leadbitter and Hyam will need cover or be rotated as there is a long way to go.

Colback would be an excellent loan signing. Midfield is an area where we need cover. Leadbitter and Norris are one booking away from a suspension, plus there are injuries to consider. So, you have to ask, who would you like to see cover these guys ... Healy or Colback? Yep, sign him up please!

Get him in!

His first priority can be to cover left-back while our injured players work their way back, and then he can have a go at that left wing or as an alternative option to Norris or Leadbitter. It will certainly keep them on their toes.

Sign him up - Colback is quality and will add even more quality to our midfield maestros.
