Keane Looking to Bounce Back at Norwich
Keane Looking to Bounce Back at Norwich
Monday, 22nd Nov 2010 09:15

Boss Roy Keane hopes next Sunday’s derby will prove the ideal game for his side to return to form after three successive defeats (BBC1, 1pm). Robert Koren’s second half strike was enough to give Hull City a 1-0 victory over the Blues at the weekend.

Keane said: “Hopefully it’s a good game for us to try and bounce back. It’s away from home and it’s a derby and we’ve watched enough games to know they’re hard to predict and that in a sense your form goes out the window.

“That might be a good thing because our form over the last three games, despite the effort having been fine, has seen us lose games. You can’t keep losing football matches because the pressure builds and then you go into the next game and it’s a ‘must-win game’.

“Then sometimes you take silly gambles, but first and foremost going into the game next week we want to be hard to beat and we’ll take it from there.”

The Blues boss says everybody at a club feels it when a side loses games: “Pressure builds on everyone when you don’t win football matches. I keep saying pressure builds from within. We’re disappointed ourselves and next week is a game we want to win because we’re dropping down the league. The derby one is always a good one to look forward to.”

Keane said on Friday that he believed progress had been made in his time at Town, but concedes that his team have to show that on the pitch: “Despite me sitting here and trying to talk a good game, you’ve got to go out and do the business and we’ve not done that. That pressure builds on trying to get the right result in the next game.

“It’ll be a long week because a week is a long time in football, but we’ll have to lick our wounds and our supporters will be looking forward to a tough game next week.”

Meanwhile, on-loan Town defender Jack Ainsley suffered a nightmare debut with Histon having been at fault on three of Luton’s goals as they defeated the Stutes 5-1 on Saturday.

Never have I been so pessimistic over a derby game in nearly 30 years of supporting Town. The constantly negative tactics and lack of ideas only suggests one thing to me, just a reminder that fear is the colour brown.

town fans hoping to see Keane 'bounce' off into the distance :-). Keane i have backed you for a long time now, arguing against those who didnt support you. However ive had enough now. Loosing a game is one thing, but turning out and doing a boring boring Burnley lets go for a nil nil draw is not what i pay my money to see. By all accounts we are becoming the kind of team no-one wants to pay money to watch as the football is so negative, not only that it isnt working as we are loosing!!! Can Clegg and Evans not see what this is doing to the finances of our club? smaller gates, little chance of promotion etc etc a quick pay off would cost in without a doubt.

Better Support needed for the Derby. Was @ Hull and a fellow fan offered me outside just for singing "keanos Barmy Army"!! Wasnt pleased when I told him to just get behind the lads and worry about Keane after 90 minutes. I sang all game, different songs with a group of lads trying to back the team but not many others joined us. For the Derby we should forget about the Keane in/Out discussion "situation"(for the record im leaning towards a change) and just focus on supporting the team, win, lose or draw. Hope people can see it in their hearts to do it. Just for one game fellas..

This is a huge game for Keane. He's lost a lot of the fans with his comments - a big defeat to Norwich (not unlikely) would see the knives out big-time.

Will this be the kick-start to our season or the beginning of the end for Keane?

Will we be "looking for a reaction?" Idiot. The man communicates entirely in cliches.

"We want to be hard to beat." So that'll be us taking it to Norwich with attacking football in the hope of winning back the fans that YOU alienated with your negative tactics and insulting comments, will it?

Just go.

Norwich may be unpredictable but will we be? you can guarantee we will have one up front,no recognisable rb and play boring, boring, boring ultra defensive long-ball football. norwich fans,be prepared for a dead boring spectacle

Bit worried he says "First and foremost we have to be hard to beat". Sounds to me he is going for the draw when only a win will do for me and most other fans aswell.

getting tedious now. the man is boring' full of big cliched comments about what will happen and then we lose 1-0 or 2-0 and then the trash talk about they were lucky or i thought the lads improved and in 70 years time we might get that 0-0 all draw we were talking about. if i can put some more lads in defence it will be back to the good old days of 0-0 draws and bottom half of table. stick with it lads its the 4th division for us............in saying that i reckon we will beat norwich now because thats the way it works with mr keane miserable run of losses and draws until no one can take anymore and then when the crunch game comes sneaks a win so the fool owner keeps him on .then miserable boring football over and over and over maybe he is betting on the tote and getting 8-1 for the 0-0 all draws and making a packet.couldnt believe it myself last year just didn't have the dosh to set myself up for life because unlike mr keane i only get paid for actually working

Let's hope for a Jim Magilton situation - 3 points of Sunday, and a new commander in chief in place by next saturday.
Sorry Roy, you've had enough chances. Don't mind losing, but we're playing dreadful football, and have been for the 18 months (and beyond) and that's not good enough.

Seven defeats from the last 10 says it all... The Derby game couldn't come at a worse time, but if Keane wants to change things around and buy himself some more time, then a win up there would do it. However I struggle to see that happening the way we are playing at the moment...

I agree with you, I have not been to a town game since the 4-0 defeat to Newcastle last season, because i come away from the games feeling very bored and not entertained plus the fact its a 250 round trip and when my girlfriend joins me it ends up cost around £150 -£200 (Tickets, Petrol, Parking,Programme, something to eat etc)
I have been told on this site that I have no right to comment on here as I am not a true fan because i go to watch my local team play now, (They play league one and are mid table and i come away entertained) I was one of the 8000 that watched Town at home to Stockport lose 2-0 one wet November in the mid 90's (I have watch poor Town performace for many years so its not just because of Keane management)
I have made my feelings known by using my feet.

I'd be disappointed if we weren't 'looking to bounce back.' Stating the obvious isn't going to win the fans back RK.

If RK can't motivate the team for this one, then there is no point in him being there.

Agree with SummerT that positive cheering for the team will be required during the Norwich game, however that needs to be matched by a positive and passionate display on the pitch...

Re: Keane Looking to Bounce Back at Norwich

Keane's tactics have as much bounce as a deflated tyre, I for one hope he rolls out of Ipswich and keeps moving.
This club shouldn't be employing such consistant negative tacticts when turning out a team, you'd associate that with smaller clubs who are in this division.

It worries me that Evans appears to be satisfied with such dross Keane's teams are producing, well that 2 year target for promotion is a long way off and more likely relegation is becoming more a probability.

Bounce.. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm! What goes up must come down! Unfortunately we have only gone backward under thIs fools regime. I cannot believe the damage he has done and is being allowed to continue doing.
People argue that we should get real and accept that we are only a mediocre club and that we expect too much.. Well the expectations were set by those at the helm!
Evans - Millions to invest and promises to get us to the premier league
Clegg - Here to act on behalf of ME and esnure we get to the premier league
Keane - Here to get us promoted in two years
Not a bigger trio of Tits exist in the footballing world (aside from Gold, Sullivan and Grant at West Ham! ha! ha! and just look at them)
We have made a terrible decision in appointing Keane and I feel like a complete mug for following him as I did all of last season... He needs to go now and I would even go on Sunday with a caretaker boss as interim - At least we may see something to cheer about - I am sure he will go for a 4-5-1 bulls**t formation and we will be snuffed out early on as their manager has a just a little bit more creativity! My old man is furious that I am even contemplating going to Narrich with some degree of fear for losing.... Dear oh Dear! COYB's - FORK!!!
