Keane Set to Field Young Side Against West Brom
Keane Set to Field Young Side Against West Brom
Tuesday, 30th Nov 2010 15:07

Town boss Roy Keane says he will field another young side when West Brom come to Portman Road for Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final. The Blues have almost an entire team injured, ineligible or suspended.

Keane said: “We’ll have to go with a young team once again, which I’ve not be pleased about over the last month or two because we’ve played too many youngsters at the same time.

“But we don’t really have a choice tomorrow night as a lot of players are cup-tied, Damien Delaney’s suspended, Márton Fülöp’s struggling with an ankle injury and Gareth McAuley and Mark Kennedy are not available, so we’ll just have to go with the younger boys. It’s not ideal, but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

In addition to Fülöp, a doubt with an ankle injury, McAuley (achilles, January) and Kennedy (hamstring, fortnight), Connor Wickham (thigh) is out for another week and Luke Hyam for another fortnight with a hamstring problem. Alan Quinn is not yet ready for a first team return after his groin injury.

Better news is that Tom Eastman should be available after his groin injury, while young midfielder Jamie Griffiths is also a doubt after receiving a bang on the leg in training.

Loanees Rory Fallon, Jake Livermore, Jack Colback and Gianni Zuiverloon are all unavailable having played in the competition for their parent clubs earleir in the season.

Darren O’Dea’s girlfriend is still to give birth to their first child and the on-loan Celtic man could be called away to Scotland between now and Wednesday’s game.

The likes of Jaime Peters and Andros Townsend could return to the starting line-up, while Ronan Murray, Reggie Lambe and Troy Brown are contention for inclusion. Keane has confirmed that Argentinian midfielder Luciano Civelli will again be in his 18, having been in the Blues squad for the first time in 20 months at Norwich on Sunday.

Academy midfielder Caolan Lavery’s knee injury, sustained in the FA Youth Cup defeat to Peterborough last week, is worse than expected and the Northern Irish U21 international will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

I will be there to give my support to my club. I will not be booing the team or RK or chanting to him to f*** off! The man is a family man and there is no need for that type of chant for the manager of ITFC.
Instead of booing every manager we have, get behind the team and sing your hearts out!!
Evans will decide what is best for the club and will not take any notice of the chants.
What is next? Ripping up our own seats and chucking them at our fans?
Pathetic!! Grow some balls!

BasilSmallPiece;

I know that I'm probably gonna regret asking this but ;
POMS ????
Obviously know what the other two are !!
Can see us putting up a spirited display but sadly losing to a couple of late goals.
Up the town !!

Good experience for the young guns. Youthful energy should also ensure that all players give 110% for the whole match.

Just such a shame that Hyams still out injured - we looked so firm and solid with him playing the holding role during our good run at the beginning of the season...

Just hoping we play those that we have in the right positions. I can see that Keano wants to make us hard to beat by playing CB's as FB's, but come on Keano, its not working - sometimes attack can be the best form of defenceso lets start playing with FB who understand how important overlap is , rather that 3 or 4 CB's whos natural inclination is to stay back an defend at all times.

Good luck to all the lads and Keano, a result against West Brom would be awesome :)

COYB !!!

WELL SAID LEGEND!
Yes I want Keane gone but that wont happen til Evans says so and as people have said, Evans is so out of touch he wont sack him until the end of his contract! Therefore we need to be the bigger men! Grow the fu*k up stop chanting negatively and start being supportive of the team which apparently we Genuinly support! (GITS and all that rubbish) We have to grow up and stop all this seat sh*t since then we are no better than millwall who alot of you were saying were disgraceful before we played them! Are we any better at the moment seriously?!?! Lets support the team! and for god sake stop being idiots! We are the Ipswich the mighty might Ipswich and its time we show that!

For this match Keane needs to get off his backside and urge his players to put in a performance.

Not sit there as if he's super-glued to his seat for the 90 minutes of play just chewing his gum

No one disputes that Ipswich is a great club and we all love it! However you would be somewhere between naive or stupid to think that Keane has done anything positive so far for this club...
I went to Narrich on Sunday and I will freeze my plumbs off at Portman Road tomorrow and for many years to come! But I'm sorry... If I am paying over £1,000 for season tickets (as many others are), I expect to see a team that cares and more importantly a manager that knows something about getting players to perform and tactics... As I have said on previous posts, Keano was a great player - I suported him through the really poor season last year and my expectations were there because of all the tripe that Evans, Clegg and Keane have spouted!
Those that are happy to sit like mutes watching this crap want their heads read! We expect and deserve more... Quote of the site so far has to be 'Keane is a family man!' ha ha ha! The same man that tackled Alf Haaland, what a family man with great values eah!
Before you get confused... I'm Blue through & through, but this guy ain't getting us anywhere and we do need a new leader before its too late! COYB's COYB's!!!

I think this (so called) young team sounds okay. If he plays Jaime Peters and Andros Townsend in the right place, keeps Scotland and Priskin on for the whole game and don't keep messing around with the defence.
Note to Roy, if you have a defender sent off, put another defender on or at least a midfield player with a denfence type of mind, drop Priskin back between Scotland and Midfield at least you would have a holding player with another to run onto. sH*t I'm not a manager but it's not rock science is it.

Would like to go tomorrow but just can't afford it, may be if those micky mouse vouchers that the children got the other day let you use them for cup game then I'd go. Or a t-shirt that said Roy out!

The club were on the radio the other week talking about how they could make it better for the children. May be cheeper food and better drinks would be a start, some entertainment on and off the pitch, flags or something to wave... The list goes on and on. It doesn't take much.
I don't like seeing managers kicked out, but there is nothing going on with old Roy and come to think of it with the chairman et al. With got good players but they do not know how to get the best out of them... We were too quick to get rid of last manager. He might not have been the answer but at least there was some true town passion there.

I think whether Pro or anti Keane - most football fans will appeciate this is a tough game, against a team doing very well in the Premier League. Realistically, we are not going to win. But I expect to see passion, commitment and 100% from those who start.

I will continue to support ITFC whoever the manager is and would urge other supporters to ignore smallpiece and do the same. We have to accept that ME is unlikely to sack Roy - so we may as well support the players and hope that Roy turns it around.

Whoppit

With supporters ( ? ) like you we will never get an experienced manager worth anything ! They will look at what is happening this year and say to themselves " do not need this type of aggravation ! " Time for true supporters to give what is needed - SUPPORT !!!!

So the team is what?

Murphy
Peters, Brown, Smith, O'Connor
Edwards, Norris, Leadbitter, Townsend
Priskin, Scotland

Too be honest. I couldn't give a monkeys anymore who's injured or not. Just start winning games and do it tomorrow night.

Meekreech, well, if we had a manager who knew how to manage, I assume we would actually play a bit better and win a game from time to time. Therefore, they wouldn't get as much aggravation as our witless current manager does.

But since you are happy with 16th and a fresh thumping from Norwich, you enjoy yourself tomorrow when you go and support Keano and his bizarre tactics along with the other 7,000 "pro-Keano's" while I save my cash and stay in with some hot chocolate !!! At least you will see goals tomorrow. From WBA.

u cant blame the manager for injuries,i would prefer to see troy brown instead of eastman next to tommy i think hes a more forceful player and has more speed, jamie at right back where he has done a good job 4 us before,it would b nice to c civelli given a run out,and oconnor at left back murray up front with priskin, with edwards, norris ,leadbitter.lets c how many of these rk plays lol.

I have tried not to comment on this whole Roy Keane issue because from day 1 I have never been in favour of his appointment.

I was at Carrow road on Sunday and I have never been so disappointed at a lack luster and utterly dismal display in all my years of watching the town. What an earth is this bloke doing. He is utterly clueless, Colin bloody Healy shouldnt be in the squad let alone on the bloody pitch! The mans a complete joke, we cant defend, cant attack from midfield, cant defend from midfield and cant score goals!!!

First things first we need to get over this notion of Norris and Leadbitter starting together, they are too similar it doesnt work, let me draw your attention to Lampard and Gerrard. Both are too defensive and this is the problem, with no1 to play the final pass (Like Lansbury on Sunday) and no1 to attack from midfield. We need a big shape up before we are going anywhere. I love the players we have and we have a good squad but I am not the only person that knew our defense would crumble without Mcauley! There is no confidence in the players, It feels as if edwards is almost scared to take on a defender, Scotland plays too deep, no width from the fall backs, where has Townsend gone? and what the hell is with 1 up front! This is the Championship not the premiership, it doesnt matter if you conceed 3 aslong as you score 4, get at them and start attacking with pride and passing ability which we used to see from the likes of Matt Holland.

Finally before I end this rant I would like to thank David Norris for his apoligy after the game Sunday, the only player that obviously realised it was a derby and that it means so much to us Ipswich fans, now we have to wait until april to have our own back. Hopefully with a new manager in charge and a squad of confidence and Passion being drilled into them by this new manager. We have the foundations of a fine squad, we just have someone completely inept and incompetent in charge.

For Ipswich Towns sack Marcus, grow and set and do what all of us loyal fans know you should do, tick bloody tock!!!!!!!!

To anyone considering hurling abuse at RK tomorrow - before you do so, stop and think about whether you would do it if stood face to face with him, or whether you are only doing it from the safety of the crowd. Also, consider whether your energy wouldn't be better directed getting behind the team, especially the younger players.

We often say that we want the club to restore the culture it had under Mr John & Mr Patrick - well, it works both ways.

BasilSmallpiece - all GENUINE supporters will agree and support your post - others are the 'brigade' that will accept anything, and keep coughing up regardless.
In other words sad people, with no ambition or desire to see the club regain former status and respect.
We once had both these qualities in abundance.

Don't worry people, I've e-mailed Keane a team for Weds night!! I believe this team has got genuine potential:

Team for Weds: GK: Tea lady, DL: ITFC Coach Driver DC: Kitman DC: Changing room cleaner DR: Club Secretary ML: Woman in the ticket office MC: Club Receptionist MC: Man who replaces the bulbs in the floodlights MR: Alan Ferguson (Capt) FC: Brenner Woolley FC: The programme seller who stands outside the club shop on matchdays

"We'll have to go with a young team once again, which I've not be pleased about over the last month or two because we've played too many youngsters at the same time."

WHY will we have to go with a young team?! I don't think we do. How about (ages is brackets):

GK Murphy (27)
LB O'Dea (23)
CB Smith (20)
CB Brown (20)
RB Peters (23)
LM Townsend (19)
CM Norris (29)
CM Leadbitter (24)
RM Edwards (32)
A Priskin (24)
A Scotland (31)
AVERAGE AGE = 25

What is Roy talking about? He talks as though we're in the Joe Royle administration days of being forced to play lots of teenagers!

Suffolk_n_Good added 18:40 - Nov 30
I like it whoppit, I think best to keep the back 4 as it is, put your Stand sweeper in behind the back 4, play 1 up front (may aswell it's all Keane as done!) & put Brenner woolley on the bench as an impact player for the second half!!!

MyBlueHeaven added 18:44 - Nov 30
would be nice if Keane said how the game gives youngsters a chance to impress, take the club in to the semis etc - ie talk them up and give them some confidence. but no, he says it's not what he wants, nothing can do about it etc, so sending out a message that he doesn't really believe in the kids but 'hey, what's a man to do?'

None of Magilton, Royle or Burley would approach the situation in the way Keane has.

And that's why he's not an Ipswich manager. Never was. Never will be.

As others have said.... it's the FORK that counts.

I couldnt give a shi* about the carling cup game, im more concerned about swansea on sat. If we somehow squeezed through against wba, were just gonna get torn to shreds in the semi live on the telly again, more national humiliation! F.O.R.K. do us all a favour, lets face it you failed ! big time

Will be hard work for the youngsters out there. WBA will be up for it after their win this weekend.
Wonder what kind of attendance we should expect tomorrow. Would be nice to see a few in!
