Keane Set to Field Young Side Against West Brom
Keane Set to Field Young Side Against West Brom
Tuesday, 30th Nov 2010 15:07

Town boss Roy Keane says he will field another young side when West Brom come to Portman Road for Wednesday’s Carling Cup quarter-final. The Blues have almost an entire team injured, ineligible or suspended.

Keane said: “We’ll have to go with a young team once again, which I’ve not be pleased about over the last month or two because we’ve played too many youngsters at the same time.

“But we don’t really have a choice tomorrow night as a lot of players are cup-tied, Damien Delaney’s suspended, Márton Fülöp’s struggling with an ankle injury and Gareth McAuley and Mark Kennedy are not available, so we’ll just have to go with the younger boys. It’s not ideal, but there’s nothing we can do about it.”

In addition to Fülöp, a doubt with an ankle injury, McAuley (achilles, January) and Kennedy (hamstring, fortnight), Connor Wickham (thigh) is out for another week and Luke Hyam for another fortnight with a hamstring problem. Alan Quinn is not yet ready for a first team return after his groin injury.

Better news is that Tom Eastman should be available after his groin injury, while young midfielder Jamie Griffiths is also a doubt after receiving a bang on the leg in training.

Loanees Rory Fallon, Jake Livermore, Jack Colback and Gianni Zuiverloon are all unavailable having played in the competition for their parent clubs earleir in the season.

Darren O’Dea’s girlfriend is still to give birth to their first child and the on-loan Celtic man could be called away to Scotland between now and Wednesday’s game.

The likes of Jaime Peters and Andros Townsend could return to the starting line-up, while Ronan Murray, Reggie Lambe and Troy Brown are contention for inclusion. Keane has confirmed that Argentinian midfielder Luciano Civelli will again be in his 18, having been in the Blues squad for the first time in 20 months at Norwich on Sunday.

Academy midfielder Caolan Lavery’s knee injury, sustained in the FA Youth Cup defeat to Peterborough last week, is worse than expected and the Northern Irish U21 international will be out of action for six to eight weeks.

What fun it is! A "manager" who has never managed in his life. A club which has a Great History. Players selected who are either friends of the manager and no damn good or not selected who don't fit and are full of promise. We have the players. If you want to invest, then invest in the potential. We would be better off WITHOUT this pathetic limp-wristed manager.
Spend not one penny more this season on players. Tell Keane that we will NEVER pay his claims for compensation, that he needs to acknowledge his failure and disappear into his knitted woolies and leave East Anglia under Boudicca's slashing chariots. He knows nothing of the culture which destroyed Rome.

del1boy - good post.

For a mixture of family reasons and value for money (against a reduced wage!), I didn't renew the season ticket this year, so I guess I'm only part-qualified to pass comment having only seen 2 home games and 4 away this season, including Sunday.

I agree with a lot of your points, there is no team in this league that would not miss McAuley, and the chances of having a 'balanced' midfield with both Norris and Leadbitter seem slim and, therefore, the strikers (whoever and however many they might be) will struggle.

Keane's job was two fold when he arrived, get rid of the wasters that we had and build a good replacement team - on a budget. He has not yet completed the first part of the job -I'd love to know what proportion of our wages bill is currently playing in South London (What was JM thinking when he extended Pablos contract?), and possibly only one third of that can be blamed on Keane. He should be given his time.

One of the first games I attended at PR sections of the crowd boo'd Bobby, John Cobbolds response went a long way to making the Club, he was given his time.

I don't know if Keane is the answer or if Evens is for that matter, but I do know I will never boo a player in a Town shirt or his manager. As for cheering the opposition......

If you have to go, stand in silence, don't boo.

sonian_blue ... well said.

Throwing plastics forks is bl**dy ridiculous IMO makes ITFC fans look stupid and on a par with 'Tractor Boys' .. where did that come from anyway? TOP clubs have TOP supporters with passion, anger, frustration etc etc But plastic forks?

Grow up

FORK - all the f**king way!

2000, back in the Prem, at Leeds.

Thier 'fans' were giving us loads of abuse, including screaming 'tractor boys' at us, Jermaine Wright scores, we win 2-1 (I think), we sing it back to them - as in '2-1 to the tractor boys', with big grins!

Finish the season in 4th, happy days.

This game should be a chance to save yourself Keano or maybe not with the way we are setting up playing youngsters against a Prem side. Lambs to the slaughter methinks. Im all for blooding young players but this is a chance to put Town on the map again SEMI FINALS FFS! ..... So we will probably lose tomorrow and he will blame the young side. Get a grip Keane and make those guys who f**KED up on Sunday play all 90 and ET if it comes.

Play Healy - looked in good nick on Sunday. Might need to see Civelli from the bench - would be good to see him play some part. And Scotland at least won't be tired. There should be every player - in such a relatively big game - chomping at the bit to impress against WBA. Injuries, suspensions, etc, why shouldn't these players & youngsters step up to the plate and show us what they can do. We need to be positive and take the game to WBA - rather than sit back and defend - what's the point?

Come on you blue boys. Time for RK to motivate whatever team we can put out and put in a good shift & a goo display. If we do that, and we lose, folks won't mind. What we don't want is a dismal, spineless performance followed by more excuses and waffle. Put up or shut up and show some backbone - let's see what kind of manager and what kind of man you really are Mr Keane.

Looks like there has been something in the tea tonight or that RK appreciation society has logged on!!

Someone has even mentioned him putting a team together on a budget!! Are you having a laugh, he has spent nearly £10M and is still no further forward. I will continue to use the quote he said when he arrived that "we need 2 or 3 more players". As I mentioned last night, this team and squad is his. I invite you all to look at the current squad and count how many has been signed by keane and where are we.

With the numbers of players he has signed he can't blame injuries. He just does not know how to gel a team.

If you go on the BBC website there are comments from Sunderland supporters. Keane spent £6M on Craig Gordon!!

I am sorry, if he has not realised how to form a team in 18 months with £10M he isn't going to perform a miracle now.

In supporting ITFC for over 30 years the only manager which I have chanted to be sacked was John Duncan and they were dark days. Look what happended when John Lyall, an EXEPRIENCED manager came in and did.

It seems that the RK fear factor has got to some people now as well as the players!! Well, I pay my money (alot of it) and I have the freedom to say what I want. I have never booed individual players however, enough is enough with RK and I for one will be chanting for him to be sacked, at the appropriate time during the game.

If he stays til xmas we will be 4th bottom.

Forgot to say it seems that having RK as manager gives him this aura that he can't be touched. If this wasn't RK and another manager with the money spent and results we have had he would have been sacked.

A good analogy of him is that of an ex-girlfriend. When you are with them you realise how bad it is, but when you are without them you think its ok and you should be with them.

When people watch each game and are served up the dire, boring football they know that he shouldn't be with us!!

If we actually played good entertaining football and could see progress I would accept that however, he has had enough time.

The keane baffle, waffle of "we need characters, I need an assistant, we need 2 or 3 more players, we need a bit of luck, I would have taken 0-0 and been happy, we don't have a 12th man, we are not a top 6 team etc is wearing very thin.

If and when he goes I would love to put together a series of quotes he has come out with cos we would then all realise he talks the talk but can't walk the walk.

I don't understand some of you! What's with all this "I'm not going, were going to get stuffed rubbish? Ok so a LOT of us, including me think that it is time mr keane moved on, but unfortunately or luckily ( I'm not sure yet) that isn't our decision, either way the team will stay, so lets support them! No booing! We all agree that the atmosphere at PR is at best poor, it has been for ages let's change that starting tommorow! We have a chance to get in the semis of a big competition, we are the underdogs, we can win it! What have we got to lose... Look at burnley a couple years back. I'm rambling I no but it winds me up how supposed
'fans' are willing there team to lose! We have achance a small chance to win a trophy think about that! If west ham can beat man u then why can't we beat WBA???? Fu(£ our manager let's focus on supporting our team,!!!!!!! where are you,,, let's be avvvinnnn yoUUU !!! .................. Hahaha stilll makes be laugh stupid cow

Norris,Leadbitter,Scotland,Priskin,Edwards,Murphy are not "young" players
but it may make Keane play fullbacks in Peters and O'Connor that go over the halfway line. The defence will be very young, so we may as well win or lose by playing attacking football.

My team would be
Murphy
Peters Smith Brown O'Connor
Edwards Norris Leadbitter Lambe
Priskin Scotland

3-1 to ???

PS
It's 22 deg over here and raining

h32 - have always enjoyed reading your posts. Clearly your not a Roy Keane fan, but have posted win or lose. But tonight I believe you have crossed the line. As a GENUINE ITFC fan, are you telling me that you honestly believe we should be hurling abuse during a game rather than support the young guys who will be representing OUR club tomorrow? I am sorry, but this clearly isn't acceptable. Write to the club, air your views after the game - goodness I am not suggesting all is well or that Roy is doing well, but we HAVE to support the players. It's the 1/4 final of a cup!! What good will it do booing or throwing things on the pitch during the game? You will only demorilise the youngsters even further. Please support the team - particularly the young players during the game - voice your concerns after. That's the actions of a genuine fan.

Sheesh! Aside from a select few, most of the posts on here are such nonsense! If only you put half the effort into singing on a match day as you did writing on here, Portman Road wouldn't feel like a morgue. We can slate Millwall & Leeds fans but at least they have some passion, however mis-directed it may be. Our fans (not all, but for the majority) are as ficle as they come. "Burley out." "Royle out." "Jim out." "Keane out." Who next? Our club is owed nothing, we have to fight just like everyone else. And no, I'm not pro-Keane. Just pro-ITFC. Here is to a win tomorrow & saturday. COYB

jas0999 - here here!

Let's get behind the team tomorrow and really cheer them on! We could win a place in the Semi-Final, and with Man Utd going out tonight we could even stand a chance to get to the final.

Yes, I want Keane out as much as anyone but let's hold off that tomorrow, until the end of the match or later in the second half if we are clearly 2 or 3 goals down. Let's then ensure that it is then aimed at Keane (and Evans and Clegg re. Keane) rather than face any accusations again that we are not supporting young players, which may be how Keane tries to distort it.

Ah Leeds away in 2000 during the fuel protests so the roads were empty as well - happy days. Scowcroft scores with a mis-hit and Jamma gets the winner against a team who went onto the Champions League semi-finals. Also the last year we reached the League Cup semi-finals and that amazing atmosphere at Birmingham when we got smashed in extra time on the sand.

Those were also the days in which the Ipswich fans SUPPORTED the team come what may. Some of you need to grow up big time and concentrate on helping the club into a semi with West Ham and a trip to Wembley (we can but hope!). Agree Keane not really the long term solution, but he will be in situ until the end of the season so get over it.

WREXHAM_BLUE added 22:23 - Nov 30
For God's sake, let's just get behind the lads tomorrow night and try and get into the semis. West Ham fans (scummers!) are disillusioned with their manager and arguably having a really poor season but they managed to create a really good atmosphere tonight. Maybe we could celebrate a win AND a decent atmosphere at PR for the first time in about 4 seasons!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen..
I personally think that us Ipswich folk enjoy watching good football and understand enough about the craft of football and how a team is put together and structured as to weather that team is enoyable to watch or boring. We ve all seen certain teams play hoof ball and win game after game.. maybe even win leagues or cups.. Would we be happy playing boring football as long as we sat top of the league. To me football is about more than that.. its about craft.. cunnin.. youth..humour ..coming together .. getting pissed.. and having a laugh with your mates. Since Mr Keane and i will be polite as my mum might read this, has been manager..He has seriously taken ALL the jam out of my doughnut. His first act of selling young Rhodes..a natural young goal scorer before we even got a chance to enjoy him play racked on me.. Then he singlehandedly destroyed Owen Garven... Got rid of David Wright who played well in our now historic problem position.. Don t get me started on his treatment of Pablo.. But then to litter or team with average bland Sunderland players.. You name me one player who you chant his name who Keane has brought in..Where are all the characters?.. Now onto the football.. Ipswich used to have a certain style of play, john Duncan era aside. technically sound footballers playing pass and move attacking football to the best ability of the players that we had at the club at the time.
In my uneducated football nieve mind as keane keeps telling me or us collectivelly the football on offer under this current reign is bad. Not just bad because we have lost 7 of the last 9.. bad because its boring ,tactically nieve, un inventive, because i see players out on the pitch who are not bad players but are scared, tactically confused and downtrodden.Keane is a bully.. He bullies everybody and every inch of this football club.If he stays we will have no Connor Wickham the jewel in the Ipswich crown that a young vibrant Ipswich side should be built around..Lets not let this worn off the hook.. he needs to go and go now.. ahmen
