Keane Set for Target Talks
Keane Set for Target Talks
Tuesday, 4th Jan 2011 10:19

Blues boss Roy Keane says he doesn’t yet know whether any players will be moving either in or out of Portman Road before this Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Chelsea, but is expecting to speak to a manager regarding a target today.

Keane revealed last week that the Blues had received loan interest in a senior player, with Swansea understood to be chasing Tamás Priskin, and he says he has spoken with various bosses recently: “We’ve had a loan offer and we’ve had conversations. I’m not trying to be clever with you. You have loads of conversations with different managers. Some make enquiries, some follow them up, just like we have.

“I’m due to speak to a manager [on Tuesday], he’s going to get back to me regarding a player. I think it changes by the day, I suppose with the transfer window being open it changes hour by hour.”

Speaking after last night’s game, the Blues boss said that losing to Forest didn’t mean he was intensifying his search for new signings: “I’ve been keen to strengthen for the last 16 or 17 months, so the next few days won’t make a difference. I won’t be on the phone tonight. That won’t speed up where we need to go as a football club.

“We’re looking at two players, that’s what we’re trying to bring to the club and trust me, as soon as any deals are done, I’m sure you’ll be the first to know.

“At the moment, there’s no news on any players, whether they’re coming or going. Please God, when I’m due to speak to you on Thursday or Friday, hopefully I’ll have news for you.”

Asked whether Priskin is set to join Swansea, the Town manager said: “Not as of today. Tamás, along with young Rooney [Ronan Murray] and one or two of our other young boys, will be playing for the reserves [in a behind closed doors friendly against Crystal Palace] on Tuesday because he hasn’t been involved in the last couple of games. That’s standard.

“Tamás nearly made it for the Forest game but young Rooney’s done well in training, Rory’s been a handful, Connor’s had his first 90 minutes, while Jason has had two games in three days. Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Colin Healy, Luciano Civelli, Reggie Lambe, Conor Hourihane and Jack Ainsley are also in the reserves side facing the Eagles second string.

Keane, who fears that the Blues could lose Jack Colback after his loan spell ends on January 14th, says there have been no further developments regarding the current loan players.

The Blues boss feels that recruiting senior temporary signings is not a simple business with a specific target, perhaps Andy O'Brien who is set to join Leeds, having proved hard to persuade to move to Suffolk: “Attracting loan players is always difficult, particularly experienced players because of our location.

“Don’t be expecting two or three loan players coming in over the next few days. It might have to be one or two young players who are quite happy to move away from their families.

“Hopefully the lads we might be looking at won’t be married or have kids so they can put up with staying in a hotel for a couple of months and are young, hungry and want to do well.”

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday boss Alan Irvine is reported to have denied making Plymouth a bid for on-loan Town striker Rory Fallon.

Woodgate?? I think he would be a dodgy signing, another sicknote defender.
However if Keane did get him he could play right back or even as cover for Fulop!

Palace have approached Stevie Coppell for their managers job. He would have been perfect for us. Good man manager, tactician, experienced in Championship and Premiership. Good reputation with other managers and media. Has a great eye for potential young players. He signed S Hunt, Long and Kevin Doyle for Reading as well as Lita, Ingimarsson and Gunnarsson.

Don't agree its about money for keane, I think he still believes he can turn things around and until he admits otherwise oe is sacked he ain't going anywhere

Not well said Elmswell Blue. North Stand is divided, people sitting there want to back the team during the game not sing about Keane. A few anti-Keane chants were started during the game but people didnt join in, me being one of them. After game, fine, during, in my opinion not on. Should be backing the players. Started off thinking Section 6 was a pack of Jokers but now thinking they should be in section 5 behind the goal sparking us all off. We as fans are fastly becoming a joke (except when winding up opponents keepers). In fairness when a bit of good football is played the whole stand sparks to life with singing and we are a credit to the club. We lack the ability to support the player/team during the lows though. A few lone voices are all that is heard...

I think most of the supporters have it wrong.
The problem with this club is a canadian ticket tout called evans, who's reason for owning us is beyond the comprehension of us unintelligent mortals.
He needs to go as much as keen and clegg.
the three ipswich witches.

RK can't put a team together. He is a destroyer, not a builder. TEAM/KEANE, 2 opposing ideas. Please keep him away from ALL decision making. Give him an All-Irish settee for one in Chantry Park . Seriously I find it difficult to understand why he is still here. The club should open an exit fund subscription. It should only cost £10 per head (man, woman and child) for Suffolk. Including VAT to get rid of him.

"We lacked a little bit of an aerial threat towards the end when Rory went off"

He didn't just go off Roy. You decided to take him off. If you wanted the aerial threat to still be there, you should have left him on the pitch FFS.

We've all had enough now so FORK.

It's all well and good just blaming Roy, but for me Clegg needs to stand up and be counted. Is he still at the club? If so he needs to get deals done. We know Roy has targets. Also, it's time for ME to act - he needs to bac or sack Roy. Would be good to know his thoughts.

Thats Ridiculous tractorboybig.
Without Evans investment, the club would not have survived. He is an Ipswich Town fan and is doing what he thinks is best for the club weather we like it or not. His appointment of Keane was hailed at the time as brilliant by many fans and media. He took a brave decision and put his money where his mouth is, with regards investing the in team, youth and training facilities. He has backed the manager fully so far which shows his commitment.

To sack Keane now would cost a bit of money, they would likely have to pay up his considerable wages and give him compensation (including his coaching staff). To appoint a new manager also means appoint new coaching staff and all goes with it. I think Keane would have to resign for us to get a new manager. Mr Evans is no fool and will have considered all his options. Maybe he is trying to secure a potential replacement as we speak if Keane should walk. Its likely he will not renew Roys contract and will have a good replacement ready for the summer.

Personaly Im not a Keane fan and I hope he does go but to slate Marcus Evans after he saved this club and continually pumps cash in to keep it going on a daily basis is poor in my opinion.
This club was in administration only a few years ago, we were nearly wound up! If he packed up and left tomorrow can you guess where we would be??
History and memories.

bluelady:quite right my lovely. Roy's ego will make him believe he can turn it round.
I'd like to believe he can, but sadly, I doubt it.

"“We're looking at two players, that's what we're trying to bring to the club and TRUST ME, as soon as any deals are done, I'm sure you'll be the first to know."

He's been at this "trust me" business from day 1, as though he knows something that nobody else does and we should all believe him, without question, each time. He never follows through with anything that inspires trust in him however, arrogant, infallible clown.

Can't believe Keane is STILL here with better managers being sacked all the time ! KEANE just GO and then ITFC can sort itself out .

Back_The_Boss added 18:42 - Jan 4
Keane shouldn't be at ITFC. So no talks are required.

The location issue doesn't wash when we are just up the road from London, and when Norwich attract players that may get them promoted.

I agree Clegg needs to make more impact too. It's difficult to judge what position he is in though, as I expect he doesn't have much executive power with Evans really making the decisions. Evans presumably gives him the budgets so if funding isn't there Clegg's position can't be easy. That said, he does not impress me at all.

KEANE OUT!

Time for the niceties to stop, the fans have to make there voices heard. As seen earlier what has happened to the North Stand.....nothing. It takes the Older fans in the so called quiet Lower Brittania to irritate Keane, we may be quiet but we also know when we have seen enough.

Keane Out

Well said brian_a_mul.

And tractorboybig...where did you get the notion that Evans is Canadian?

Scotland will score goals we just need a CREATIVE MIDFIELDER to give him the chances.

I think that pretty much everything has been said but need to get this off my chest.

WHAT PLANET IS HE ON?? Does he realise that he makes contradiction after contradiction. In the summer he had 2 players in his office and now he blames the location!! How far is Ipswich from London and the Midlands? Its another damn insult from him if you ask me.

Blackpool isn't easy to get to but look at the players and team they have!! RK, look in the mirror and also listen to yourself. PERHAPS ITS YOU.

I have to admit, I am surprised that the North Stand have not given Keane a tough ride lately. For whatever reason and for those people who still want to give Keane a chance I would like them to ask themselves one thing? If our manager who has spent over £10M in 18 months, signed 13 players plus another 9 loan players had come from a lower league team and was an unknown name would they still support the manager? It appears that people have a fascination over keane and him and I can't see why. I got shot down yesterday when singing keano out the door.

As some people have said, people pay their money and are entitled to their opinions and we all know that Keane isn't backwards in coming forwards and if he can't handle some critiscm from a couple of fans then he shouldn't be in the job at any club.

For those people who said Keane was wrong from day 1 will be proved to be right. I was prepared to give him a chance last year but the time is nigh.

For those people who want him to stay will see him take our club down to Division 1 as he has not got the managerial ability, tactical nouse, man management skills and know how to get us out of this mess.

When the time does come when he has gone it would be interesting to put a compilation together of all his press conferences from day 1. We would then all see what utter rubbish he comes out with.

We were and are the wrong club for Roy Keane.

We need pace, width and to keep the ball on the ground and not hoofing the ball to the moon in the vain hope a 5 ft 8 striker will beat a 6 ft 5 defender to head the damn ball. Its really not rocket science is it? Keane says we don't score enough goals...well er i wonder why?

Is this guy still here? Wheres that press conference? Seriously how can he be trusted with more cash after what hes done with it so far. I despair!! Oh i forgot we are 2 or three players away from being a good team arent we...bit of deja-vu there me thinks.

Someone please pinch me...its like an on going nightmare and i just want to check that this is really happening to our once great club.

We either had or have the players that we need. I do believe that we have enough players for a good 11, but Keano just does not know who they are and most of them he won't play. I would like to think that the players that were used in the cup run to date get a go the show themselves next Wednesday...
I have to say that when the players came on the pitch on Saturday, they just did not look like they where up for it. [May be they were hoping it was going to snow?] But the omens were not good, first there was more than one tv camera and two town started the first half shooting towards north stand and then we had a ref who's only ref'd a handful of games in the CH'p.

So many times this season Mr. K has named a side where certain players that have done an okay job the game before have been omitted and then surprise, surprise then come on in the second half. It was a total joke again!!!
Yeah we need other signings but if we do how many games will they play and what stupid position is he going to play. I think if he got Becks and Owen in he play them out of positon - Owen right back and Becks up front!!!

I can't see Keano going until the summer and I can see us going down, and I really don't think that Mr Evans will give a damm. He properly has a plan B in place where he kills off town and replaces the pitch with a load of houses, no, flats cause that would make more money... No hang-on he's not making any money with town... Does he carer about anything???
