Southampton Join Swansea in Targeting Priskin
Southampton Join Swansea in Targeting Priskin
Thursday, 6th Jan 2011 10:38

TWTD understands that League One Southampton have joined Swansea in chasing Town striker Tamás Priskin. The Hungarian has failed to make the Blues 18 since a lacklustre performance from the bench at Preston a month ago.

Last week, boss Roy Keane revealed that Town had received a loan offer for a senior player with Priskin understood to have been targeted by Swansea, who are managed by his former Watford boss Brendan Rodgers. The Swans previously made enquiries regarding Priskin in the summer.

Southampton are also now showing interest in the 24-year-old with Keane having admitted that the Blues may have to loan or sell players in January to release funds.

With that being the case, Town could look to sell Priskin rather than loan him in order to bring in the cash with which to sign another striker, one of Keane’s main aims during the transfer window.

Speaking on Monday, the Town manager said that Priskin was close to making his squad for the Nottingham Forest match and dismissed suggestions of a fall-out: “Tamás has got a bit of competition, he’s just missed out over the last few games. There’s no problem with Tamás."

Priskin, who scored in Tuesday’s 2-0 reserves friendly victory over Crystal Palace, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2012 with Town having the option of a further year.

Prior to his recent omission, Priskin had finally begun to show why Town paid the Hornets £1.7 million for him in August 2009, netting five goals. However, a month-long barren run led to him being dropped.

The 6ft 1in tall frontman failed to make much of an impact during his first season with the Blues, moving to QPR on loan in January having scored only twice in the first half of the 2009/10 campaign.

Priskin was a panic buy after a few goals in high profile cup games ,his scoring record is very poor in the last 4 years ,118 championship games and only 22 goals. He is certainly not going to score more than Scotland and wont even outscore Stead in this league .People are only thinking he is good because the rest of the team are so bad but it all comes down to the simple fact he doesnt score enough goals .
Warnock had him and didnt want to keep him and he is a better judge of player than most . Swap for Lambert and Lallana would be ideal

I'm crying into my coffee as I write this!!! (only reason it's nothing stronger is because I dont think my boss would be impressed at the consumption of a few whiskeys whilst at work, but my god I need it!!!!) Its not about Priskin but the whole sorry mess, I was a Keane loyalist and believed he could really do a job here. Now it's evident that he can't and nor can the men above him. Yes we may be in League one now if Evans hadn't come along, but the way it's going we'regoing to be there next year even with the 12m or so that's been spent. We have a team more than capable of reaching top six, not struggling to fight off relegation a second year in a row. We dont automatically belong in the prem but we do belong in at least the top half of this league. We have the players who as individuals are not far behind the quality of our promotion winning side of 10 years back. Promotion is a long way off and in my time as a town fan I have not known a period of time so long as now for us being out of top flight football, nine years now!!!! A bit off subject but we wont get there by spending £1.75m on players and not using them. In fact think about what we could have done with the £3m or so spent on Martin and Priskin and it's starting to look like we wont have either player on the books by the end of the season and will probably be lucky if we recoup 750k on them both.

Poor signing and yet another Roy couldn't get the best out of, however now that he is ours he should definitely be kept, our most creative striker by far, not the best and doesn't score enough but the only man who will get more goals is Scotland and he is very lazy sometimes. Priskin is a lot like Pablo.

When are we going to start making our feelings known at games a bit more?

Whenever any of us make our feelings known at PR it's meet with evil eyes and judgemental looks. We should be allowed to voice our opinions, and I don't think the board knows enough at the moment, how much we do not want Keane here anymore.

The board don't want RK any more than you do. They had no say in him coming here - MEvans appointed RK.

Roy Keane will not get another contract, he will finsh the season because the only thing he is good for is promoting the Marcus Evans brand on sky sports every week so there is no point in giving him millions to spend when we will be back to square 1 in the summer. The funds are being saved up for whoever they bring in for next season. If Keane wants new players he needs to find the funds himself. Sell Priskin, he's had 4 good games out of 46.

Swop him for Lallana or Lambert!

My first point is that Keane should not be making decisions like this. He has had his chance and Priskin is a fine example, a player whom we paid far too much for and whom Keane has failed to get the best out of.

If he goes on loan, who will be spend the wages on? The likes of O'Brian (an aging Irish centre back - a position we don't need more players for) and Kilbane (another aging Irishman).

If we sell him, what would the fee be? £0.2M maybe? For a player Keane spend £1.7M on?!

Let's sack Keane and bring in a new manager who can assess Priskin to see whether we can get more out of him, or whether indeed he should be let go.

Failed to sign: DERRY, CARSLEY, O'BRIEN, KILBANE! we missed out signing Kilbane to a League 1 club!!!! WTF is going on!! Now I read Priskin is being targeted by a League 1 club!!! What kind of message does this send out to potential players? Some on here seem to think Priskin is our best player, well if our best player is being linked to Southampton what does that say about the standard of our team?.......

FORK! FOSC! Bad times at PR........

morris I'm sure you know what I mean! Ok I should have written Evans, or Clegg, sorry for using a general term so commonly used in football!

What makes us think by getting rid of Priskin we will get someone better. Given the limited games he has been offered, i think he's done quite well. And you know we will only land up with Irish/Sunderland loan players !

I suggested trying to get Leon Best a few weeks ago but that is unlikely after his hattrick last night. Newcastles 4th choice striker, Ranger, was very good last season in the Championship, he could be a possibility for a loan. Tall, strong and scored a few goals.

Given a regular run in the team Priskin with at least 1 regular partner along with him who he gets to know, both players could improve. By swopping and changing most of the team each week this can not be beneficial to building a team that plays as a team as opposed to 11 individuals as present.
Getting anxious that still no annoucement from ITFC either way, the lack of communication from Clegg is very annoying. IMO getting rid of Keane will solve most of the problems at PR in one foul swoop, even with McParland/Kiwomya temporarily taking over until new man appointed.

Brian, I think one of the sore points is getting players in on loan, we want our own players not others up and comings, had beens and failures. That was (along with poor management) was what sent the budgies down a couple of years back and how we all laughed esp when Col thrashed them in their first game in League 1. Look at them now, the right management and shrewd signings and they could be on the verge of a Prem return whilst we have every possibility of going the other way. It hurts saying positive things about Naaaarrrwich but nobody can deny its the truth no matter how ardent a blue we are. We need our own players (which seems like an impossibility anyway) not others cast offs. Loanees are meant to be cover and a way of boosting squad numbers slightly, surely not the core of the squad.

We don't need any more players, we'll have Lisbie, Martin and Counaga all back in a few days. Year after year we get this drivel, no-one decent is going to sign for a egotist like Keane and not for a club sinking in the Championship. Wait until the summer both Keane and the Championship will have gone.

I think its about time all of the fans stood together and make our feelings known. I for one am sick of all the bull that comes out of PR these days. Us fans have been mugged off for years. Nothing positive comes out of that club anymore its all spin spin spin, failed signings, poor signings, bust ups, false promises and lies.

After reading this statement on the Marcus Evans Group website, it does make me wonder just what is happening at Portman Road.

The purchase of Ipswich Town Football Club by the marcus evans group is a natural extension of its activities considering the nature of it's business portfolio, with a wide range of companies involved in creating events of all shapes and sizes. This innovative approach of adding a highly recognised sports brand signifies an exciting and ambitious expansion for the company....

I think someone should remind ME what he has taken on, mind you this was before he employed Roy Keane as manager.

Priskin must stay, he has more quality in his little toe than Wickham.... and before you can moan, how many goals has Wickham scored this year !!!

Keep your pantyhose on guys..... Our beloved Mr Keane will be sacked on the 23rd of this month the day after the Donny game. The board can not sack him until we have played Arsenal at least once. Keane got us there, he should be allowed to manage the team for it.

Then we will have the Jewell in our crown. Not sure if he's the right man but, at least he a nice guy not like Mr rottweiler.
