Scotland Confirms Town Have Given Green Light for Swans Return
Scotland Confirms Town Have Given Green Light for Swans Return
Wednesday, 9th Feb 2011 09:34

Striker Jason Scotland has confirmed that Town have given him the green light to return to Swansea on loan, as revealed by TWTD last night. The Trinidadian, 32 next week, is frustrated by his lack of opportunities since Paul Jewell took over at Portman Road.

Scotland, who joined the Blues from Wigan for £750,000 in the summer, says he moved to Town to get games: "I went to Ipswich to play football and I'm not doing that. I am at that point in my career when I need to be playing, not sitting on the bench.

"The new manager has come in and I have not had a chance, but I feel I have a lot to contribute. I had a word with him and he is happy to let me go.

"If Swansea are interested in me, it would be great. I enjoyed the best time of my career there and it would be an easy decision for me."

Swans boss Brendan Rodgers has previously said that he would seriously consider bringing Scotland back to the Liberty Stadium if he became available.

Town would almost certainly want to line up a replacement before allowing the former St Johnstone and Dundee United man to move on with Tamás Priskin and youngsters Connor Wickham and Ronan Murray the only out-and-out strikers at the club.

Scotland enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Swans between 2007 and 2009, scoring 53 goals in 91 starts and 14 sub appearances. He says he has watched his former club in action this season and believes he would slot straight back in and continue that impressive record.

The frontman says the ball is now in the Swans’ court:"If Swansea come calling then it would be an easy decision. I'm not interested in going to any other club. It's up to Swansea now to speak to Ipswich and make something happen."

good shout, but P'boro would not let them come on loan and that's all we can get at this time of the season

I would hazard a guess at Jason Roberts being re-united with Jewell til the end of the season

I'd let him go to be honest, as long as PJ has a replacement, which I'm sure he has, he seems much more savy than Keane. Pablo WAS a good servant, but he's passed his best now, we need to move forward not rely on memories of good players that can no longer do the job.

@DanLyles - Roberts has just signed a new improved contract at Blackburn and is starting every game for them recently so not going to happen.

Gets a lot if criticism because of his laziness but will score goals with good service. Believe me or not he is a better finisher than tamas but I would still rather have tamas in the starting 11. If we have a replacement lined up fine, if not...well Jewell wouldn't let him go if he didn't. We won't get mckail smith on loan I doubt.

doesn't fall in the box like our other strikers.

no way Mckail Smith will come on loan. Will be a Premiership Striker who isn't getting any games for Wolves or something

Well done PJ - He has shown in your short time here that he reads the situations well and then gets the job done - Maybe Scotland was not a team man , lets face it he is fat
Great look forward to seeing next step , Love it PJ ... 3 MORE AGAINST BARNSLEY
HAPPY DAZE

This is a dreadful day for our club if we let our number one goalscoring striker out on loan.
Now the word is out, it won't just be Swansea in the reckoning. There are at least 4 other Championship Clubs who are desperate to sign Scotland and 2 Premiership Clubs have shown interest.
A dark day indeed for our club.

The most talented player at ITFC by miles.

OMG! I didn't even realise Jewell has released Seb Dunbar! Our best young left back! Another decision we will regret!

I should have researched the Jason Roberts situation, when I checked a few weeks ago he wasn't in the team and hadn't signed a new contract.

With Keane I would have been nervous about Scotland going as I would have doubted a plan B, however, I have more faith in PJ to have one in place. Will be interesting to see who comes in. Fingers crossed there is someone!!!

Surprised at the nagativity - SCotland has scored 7 in half a season - only one less than our highest scorer last year. Having said that I wouldn;t be disappointed to see him go IF we sign an outstanding replacement BEFORE he leaves.

Given the chances (which often he hasn't as a lone striker) and Scotland will score goals. Hope Jewell has lined up a replacement!!

He was never given a really good chance in that he wasn't given the service he needed. It will be a pity to see him leave. He is awkward to play against and holds onto the ball up well, in addition to carving out the odd chance for himself in the penalty area. On the other hand, maybe not one for the future, and in PJ I trust. So we move on. Good luck, though, JS.

I think Jewell will be looking for a striker with pace.
Unfortunately Scotland does not fall into that category.
Good player but past his best.

Premiership clubs wont loan out players unless they are guaranteed matches and with the form of Priskin and Wickham they wont be. Loan with a view to a permanent move on someone from a lower league methinks. But that would rule out teams in a promotion fight too. hmmm

Mckail Smith and Boyd cost £3.5m. They are overpriced, untried at Championship level and thet won't come on loan. There is no premiership player lined up who will come on loan and score hatfuls for us. If there is, he will be going to a club involved in the play-offs or promotion. Scotland to Swansea has only one advantage and that's cutting the wage bill.
This is the same old ITFC spin. If we needed someone why didn't they do deal during the transfer window.
If somone gets injured we'll end up begging Conuga to come and play for us.

Best to move him on if his heart's not in it.

In an ideal world Pablo would come back and knock in a few goals but can't see that happening.

PJ must have someone from the prem or championship lined up who isn't getting a starting place at their club at the moment...?
