Scotland Confirms Town Have Given Green Light for Swans Return
Scotland Confirms Town Have Given Green Light for Swans Return
Wednesday, 9th Feb 2011 09:34

Striker Jason Scotland has confirmed that Town have given him the green light to return to Swansea on loan, as revealed by TWTD last night. The Trinidadian, 32 next week, is frustrated by his lack of opportunities since Paul Jewell took over at Portman Road.

Scotland, who joined the Blues from Wigan for £750,000 in the summer, says he moved to Town to get games: "I went to Ipswich to play football and I'm not doing that. I am at that point in my career when I need to be playing, not sitting on the bench.

"The new manager has come in and I have not had a chance, but I feel I have a lot to contribute. I had a word with him and he is happy to let me go.

"If Swansea are interested in me, it would be great. I enjoyed the best time of my career there and it would be an easy decision for me."

Swans boss Brendan Rodgers has previously said that he would seriously consider bringing Scotland back to the Liberty Stadium if he became available.

Town would almost certainly want to line up a replacement before allowing the former St Johnstone and Dundee United man to move on with Tamás Priskin and youngsters Connor Wickham and Ronan Murray the only out-and-out strikers at the club.

Scotland enjoyed a hugely successful spell with the Swans between 2007 and 2009, scoring 53 goals in 91 starts and 14 sub appearances. He says he has watched his former club in action this season and believes he would slot straight back in and continue that impressive record.

The frontman says the ball is now in the Swans’ court:"If Swansea come calling then it would be an easy decision. I'm not interested in going to any other club. It's up to Swansea now to speak to Ipswich and make something happen."

I think we have had enough of Counago, he was good when he first came to Town. Show me what he has done at Palace, time to move on and get a new face in who has pace. For those who complain about Priskin take a look at his number of assists, with a settled side next season he will score the goals required to take us to a top 6 position.

Footballers amaze me, they get fantastic wages, all they have to do is adopt a healthy lifestyle and keep fit enough to play & put the effort in on match days. If Mr Big had watched his weight and tried a bit harder he'd be a first team regular at Ipswich!
Bye Bye Mr Scotland, you won't be missed, just hope we get in someone better to replace you!

Elmswellblue just checked the assists and Priskin has 3 so far this season , Fallon had 2 in the few games he was here !! 3 assists and 4 league goals hardly a great return for 24 outings ?

It looks as though Paul Jewell plays a certain formation - and Scotland simply doesn't fit into that. Shame really, he did look decent when he played - but in truth probably not good or young enough to usurp the likes or Wickham and Priskin.

I read this report in a Spanish newspaper about a young lad who just moved between Premiership clubs and had a dreadful first game at his new outfit, everyone reckons he will never fit in but he could do a job for us in the Championship. I had trouble figuring out the full text, what with internet translation programs and that, but I think his surname is Towers.

Elmswell Blue if you were wrong about Priskins assists I agree with you about Pablo. He I am afraid is a spent force with the wrong attitude. I can't stand Lisbie
but would rather have him back than Pablo. Martin has proved me wrong on his return but in any event I am sure PJ will get someone in and I agree we need someone with some pace.

Clearly he has someone else in mind ...otherwise he wouldn't let him go ...whatever anyone thinks of him he does score goals ...and that is a hot commodity ...jewell like attackers that can run and run fast ...and clearly that isn't his strong point !!We are on a run ..and u don't move someone unless you have someone else in mind !! a few more wins and this forum could be talking about a whole new ball game and bright-lights , big city ...and a few losses and it will all change again ...Jewell knows what he is doing ...so let's watch and learn !!
all will become clear !!

it's dissapointing that we're looking to let him go out on loan'cos thats addmiting its not worked out. he seems to have ability but is quite clearly overweight. i agree if Austin had been here he would have gone out on loan anyway. lets hope for a decent loanee! sorry guy and gals but Priskin, i'm just not convinced about......

Unfortunately, we didn,t see the best of Mr Scotland mainly because of him playing as a lone striker having the ball punted up in the air to him. Not his style of play, unfortunately, Mr Keane didn,t seem to appreciate this. However, i,m sure Mr Jewell has a replacement of quality lined up. Good luck Jason.

Whilst I'd be disappointed to see Scotland go, because I do believe that he's more than capable of scoring goals in the Championship, what I'm most disappointed in is the way this has all been conducted openly with the press. Whether it was the idea of his agent or if he felt the need to make his desire for a move known either way it's not a great way to have conducted himself.

What we want at the club is fully committed players who all want to play their part in firstly securing enough points to avoid relegation before going on to get as many points as possible. He could be a great asset to the team but it's a shame he doesn't appear willing to work hard & stay to fight for his place.

We need all of the players to be pulling together at all times. The fact that he's almost saying he wants a guaranteed starting 11 place or he'd like to go doesn't appear to demonstrate the best team ethic.

Whilst I think he remains a good player & wish that he did want to stay & fight for his place this does not appear to be the case. I do not blame Jewell at all because he's picked a team that's won three in a row. At the same time it's actually been refreshing to see a bit of stability and continuity when it comes to the team selection. If however this doesn't suit Jason Scotland and he's adamant that he wants to leave then the club should not stand in his way.

If his departure is imminent even if we do not have an immediate replacement I don't think we need to hit the panic button. At the moment we are predominantly playing a system which uses one loan striker. We have two strikers in Priskin & Wickham which could be used in that role. With the fact that we have several midfielders who could come in to replace Connor on midfield, e.g. Healy, O'Connor, Civelli, Drury, Peters & Hyam we would be ok for the moment baring any injuries or suspensions.

Until we could get more experienced striker backup in via an emergency loan you've got Murray who I think scored two for the reserves tonight. Then if injuries, suspensions or form went against us if we struggled to get a striker of the required quality in on loan we could is desperate recall Pablo or if incredibly desperate Lisbie. Whilst neither of those are long term solutions & I think that both should be released in the summer I'm sure that we still pay the majority of their wages. Therefore if we had the problem if injuries/ suspensions to either Priskin or Wickham we do have a worst case scenario back up.

Ideally Scotland would not be keen on a departure however if a player is determined to leave then I do not think we should stand in their way. At the same time I think that we should all remain calm even if there isn't an immediate replacement.
