Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Bowyer Set to Sign Next Week
Wednesday, 6th Jul 2011 22:50

Former Birmingham midfielder Lee Bowyer looks set to complete his move to Portman Road next week. Talks with the one-time England international’s representatives have continued over the last few days with news of the Blues’ interest in the former Leeds, West Ham and Charlton man having broken over the weekend.

Earlier today, David Lee, an agent working for Skillequal, the company who represent Bowyer, appeared to hint that the 34-year-old was close to completing his switch to the Blues when he tweeted: “ITFC have a very interesting player signing soon!”

He later added: “Just to let the Ipswich fans asking I can't say who the player is but [the] deal should be done next week!”

Free agent Bowyer is currently understood to be on holiday abroad and could sign on the dotted line on his return, in time to be involved in next week’s two-game pre-season tour of Holland. TWTD understands that the Blues could also sign another player in time to make the trip across the North Sea.

Despite some fans reacting angrily to the news of Town’s move for the controversial Londoner, a TWTD poll currently sees 71% of fans backing his addition.

Probably best not to count our chickens, but IMO Bowyer will be a good signing. Club captain maybe?

Would much prefer Bowyer to the injury prone Dyer.

Their alleged victim was left with a fractured leg, cheek and nose, and was also bitten on the face by one of Mr ******** friends, prosecuting counsel told **** Crown Court. The defendants and jury were shown an image of Mr ****** bruised, swollen face and injuries including the imprint of a heel, which had come down "with force'' on his cheek

Great News if it does come off.
Wish all these 'image and history of our club' pussies would do one. You dont get anywhere with nice players, if we want to get promoted we need a bit of steel and bottle. Give me a Bowyer over a Garvan type any day.
Mind you while we have 'fans' who persist in judging a player before he even kicks a ball (or signs on the line!)and then constatly boo (Eastman, Roberts, Lisbie, Parkin etc etc) we will never again achieve much.
Clegg gets stick for the players not wanting to come here well some of you idiots should take a look at yourself.
I would never boo a player wearing my clubs shirt on the pitch. But hey, maybe I am the one with the problem.

sonian blue - I dont want Bowyer here, but agree is would be a strong player?

Would the Bowyer lovers accept Barton (GBH x 2, one against a 16 year old kid in the street) and King (Handling Stolen Goods, Sexual Assualt/GBH) at the club if offered?

I can handle people saying give him a second chance, but not idiots like sonian suggesting that you need to be a criminal to succeed. Alan Hansen, Terry Butcher, Bobby Moore, John Wark, Gary Lineker, Paul Scholes, Gianfranco Zola..... all incerdibly successful and would get stuck in on the pitch..... all equally decent guys off the pitch.

Notwithstanding the above..

Compared to Barton and King I do think Bowyer does seem to have cleaned his act up OFF the pitch over the past 10 years, which would suggest some maturing and remorse. So would be preferable to those 2 characters at least.

Not botheedr if he picks up a few yellows on the pitch.

Will do a good job. Wonder how he fits in with the wage structure though

If this happens I will be very happy, I know opinion is split on Bowyer but you can't fault his football ability

Someone mentioned he would be on a similar wage to Bullard, I think they missed the point. Bowyer is out of contract. Bullard still has £4.5m in wages to pick up from Hull over the next 2 years.

I'm not about to forget about this guy's past or pretend that I'm particularly comfortable at the prospect of his signing.

This is not to say I don't think he's a good player or that he won't do well for us but we need to bear in mind what kind of message this sort of signing sends out about the club.

I know the pragmatists among you will decry me and shoot these comments down. I only hope it wasn't a straight choice between him and resigning Jimmy.

If he joins he'll get my support as a town player but not my admiration or respect.

That would really put the cat among the pigeons.

PJ is a courageous man in taking on these "interesting" players. He clearly enjoys a challenge.
I think he'll do it. And of course, psychologically every step he has taken has made it easier for other players to say "yes".

It would be very funny if Dyer also signed ... no hope of promotion but the season ticket would be worth it for the entertainment value

So IF we get him and IF the season were to start this weekend our midfield would probably be Carson - Leadbitter - Bowyer - Cresswell with Healy, Drury, Hyam, Civelli and Martin in reserve. Not too bad I still think we will get one of Bullard and Dyer or maybe both. What a midfield we would have with Dyer - Bullard - Bowyer - Carson. We can but dream!

What on earth has everyones hearsay views on Bowyers personality got to do with anything if the guy performs on the pitch ? Do you think Man Utd fans are wishing they never had Giggs for the last 8 years because he has been found out to be a bit of a tosser to his family ?
He is a great player and would be a fantastic addition to the team ,lets judge him on his ability and behaviour as an Ipswich representative not stuff he did years ago .

Let's hope this story isn't true.

If you follow the Town, then you'll have your heroes. I've got plenty. Alf Ramsey first and greatest. Quickly followed by Beattie and Crawford on the pitch and Cobbold in the boardroom. I could go on and on. Dave Best arcing through the air to tip away a Charlton piledriver.....and so on and on. But let's come out of the dream world and face reality.

Do we want this slovenly character sporting blue and struggling along the esteemed Portman Road turf. No, we do not. This person is the lowest of the low, whatever his ability to kick a ball. Watching him does not constitute entertainment. The proud history of the Club should not be sullied by signing this sort of person.

I appeal to the Man With The Bag Over His Head, the nice-but-dim Clegg and the average manager to think again and pay due respect to the majority of decent fans who do not want this person at Portman Road.

Jewell needs to be summarily dismissed if this goes through. Forget what Bowyer is on the field (old, clapped out, never had any skill or quality) : the issue here is that he is a convicted violent criminal, who has never shown any remorse for his misdemeanours. We have never been a club that accepts that type of personality and behaviour. I didn't relaise things could sink any lower after the Keane fiasco. A very sad day, as after 42 years I will no longer be able to support the team. Jewell, and Clegg, out.

Steely determination, good passer, work rate, goals, I couldn't care less about his past if he does well for Ipswich. I see that Bullard also still wants to come and the Wickham £££ should make that possible; what a midfield we could end up with, especially if Carson carries on developing at the rate he did at the end of last season. These guys would bring the best out in Leadbitter and Martin, would be interesting to see how PJ lines up the midfield if all the deals go through.

please sign before holland, i would like to see him in a town first off and the other mystery player. see yuh in holland bowyer!

He is NOT a convicted criminal. How about you do research before you claim stuff like that. He was cleared of causing grievous bodily harm and of affray. So how about we all get off our high horses and remember that in this country we go by ei incumbit probatio qui dicit, non qui negat - innocent until proven guilty in layman's terms.

As a player, he'd be excellent, giving us bite and steel in our midfield. Potentially could score goals too. Hope this is true.

Did I suggest you need to be a criminal to succed Marshallmullett?
Far from it and I wouldnt be his mate either but if he wears the shirt he will get my backing, as they all do.
Its all this whinging and booing of certain players that seem to have blighted our club forever. I go back to Clive Woods (others no doubt have longer memories)and as a kid I could never quite work out the abuse he used to get. If I remember correctly he played a big part in us winning the FA Cup.
Whatever Bowyers personality I dont really give a toss providing he puts the effort in on the pitch.
Marlon King, now he is a different case. He has had more than enough chances and I wouldnt appreciate him here. Wouldnt boo him though.
